Silver Stacking - American Silver Eagle or Canadian Silver Maple Leaf?

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 19 ส.ค. 2024
  • In this video I talk about the pros and cons of stacking American Silver Eagle Coins and Canadian SIlver Maple Leaf Coins. This debate has been around for a while and many people are torn between the 2 silver coins. On one hand American Silver Eagles are Extremely Liquid and Recognized and on the other hand Canadian Silver Maple Leafs have anti-counterfeiting technology and are more pure. I go in depth and go over every difference between the 2 silver coins and try to cover all aspects of stacking both of them. I cover the negative aspects such as the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf milk spot issue and the higher premium on the American Silver Eagle. I hope that by the end of the video I can help you decide which one to stack in the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf vs Silver Eagle debate!

    It's amazing watching this video from 3years ago and see how much things have changed in the insane premium increase for eagles. I started stacking March of 2022 and I started stacking Maples for their beauty, price and purity. I looked at the Eagles and they were already way more expensive than the Maples and the Britannias. Great video

    I'd like to make the argument that the maple has the queens face on it. The silver maple should be more liquid in whatever country's that have the queens face on their currency and I believe there's 29 countries that currently use her face.

      @@SilverDragons47 but the comparison point wasn't whether or not the Queen's face is acceptable. It was based on recognition status, which as the above author reasonably notes makes the SML a highly recognizable coin outside of Canada. Just saying.

    I can appreciate a fellow Americans pride for there country as I am American myself, born and raised. With that being said I have to say I feel your evaluation or comparison seemed a little bias to be honest. Some of your comments I would like to comment on: First thing is that excessive minting decreases the value of coins, it doesn’t add to the value. If things get bad the denomination will matter in a grocery store or or purchases of goods, they won’t just give you melt/spot value of the sovereign currencies. Bartering on the other hand maybe, and when in a barter situation purity could make a difference. Also the eagles are more popular with American investors and is not so much the same case with foreign investors/collectors. Though I love the eagles the truth is the maples are manufactured from start to finish with a much higher standard by far. They refine there silver for higher purity and then make there blanks/coins from start to finish. The eagles are just stamped on silver blanks from the SMI’s blood sweat and tears and then our US mint tacks on a ridiculously greedy premium before it leaves the building which leads to much higher prices because the dealers need to make money too. The liquidity is great on both coins. As far as far as recognizable the eagle is definitely 1st maple a close second. The eagles were being minted way before the maples so that is the main reason. I am a proud American and I collect them both and prefer the looks of the eagles But honestly would have to give the Maple the lead as far a a true value for a product that was made with much higher standards and craftsmanship with high attention to detail. And if anyone can get all that for less money (usually) that’s a win win in my book!

    As a kid we tried making 1/2 Dollars using two paper cups filled with paper mache as a mold. Once the mole was made we lined each half with melted silver solder, let it dry and then poured melted lead into the mold. Once the lead solidified we could tear the paper cup and paper mache away from the coin.
    The plan became to use them in vending machines rather than trying to pass them off in store were we might get caught, but we could never get the weight perfect enough to trip the mechanism on the vending machines. So we finally gave up on that plan and tried to make copies of $5.00 bills and use them in the change machine at the laundry. That didn't work either.
    There were three of us in this enterprise. One went on to be a lawyer. I later became a stock broker and the third guy went to own a junk yard but ended up in state prison for car theft.
    In retrospect, it would have been easier to just to use a crow bar and break into the machines.

    Just want to throw this out there, I’ve been stacking for 5 years now, i learned all about stacking bc I regularly make colloidal silver. I used to watch videos on colloidal silver production, and came across stacking videos here and there. One day I wanted to try a bar instead of a rod bc I was making larger batches, ordered it in the mail, and when the piece arrived (silver eagle), I fell in love w the beauty it contained. Been stacking ever since, but now primarily as investment. Anyways, I always note how many 9’s there are. For me, it’s a no brainer. Silver colloids are serious stuff, but that’s another story. If you ever want the real deal facts, there’s a forum, just type “cgcs” and you’ll have filtered out endless bogus info. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SILVER DRAGON.

The maple Leafs are also easier to get rid of in my area(Florida) as most shops are already full of Silver Eagles since they are more common. I used to stack bars and rounds but you really take a loss on those. As most sellers charge a premium on them but shops only want to give you melt value. Maple is definitely better than buying Generic crap, and a cheaper alternative to the Eagle.....and it's .9999....and they feel a tad beefier than Eagle, I think because it has a slightly larger rim. • @HifiCentret
    @HifiCentret 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    First of all. All silver bullion is good silver.
    That said I do believe most of your points are very subjective and perhaps also colored by Americans being very patriotic.
    * For recognition/liquidity I'd say they're very much on par in the rest of the world. The same goes for Philharmonics, Krugerrands, various Australians, even Pandas. We don't live in the 80es anymore an even small dealers have a great knowledge of all the mayor bullion manufacturers out there thanks to the globalized world (and internet). On top of that most even has high tech testing equipment. If anything has lower values it's all those special editions as some dealers don't want to bother with all those variations - it's not because they're unkown or have higher risks of being fakes. Even with cheap tools available to everybody you can be almost sure any coin is made out of what it claims to be - digital scale (and calibration weight), caliper, neodyminium magnet, app to analyze the ring tone when pinged is all you need and none of it is expensive anymore. It's all down to physics that works for you. No matter what test parameter you want to have equal compared to the original - then others will not be. Sure a collectors coin can be fake but of real material - but bullion is not collectors items so no benefit for counterfeiters to make 100% replicas in the right material as it's the material that's the expensive part - not the collectors value.
    * Quality. I'm not sure it's as much the quality as it's the treatment after minting that causes milk spots - they're not cleaned as well for machining lubricants afterwards. Have you put older maples in an ultrasonic bath (in pure kerosene, cleaning gasoline - not sure of english name but consist almost of pure n-heptan, pure methanol or just even pure distilled water to avoid chalk spots) right after buying them - then they'd almost certainly still be flawless today. Not that milk spots matters if bullion value is what you're after.

    • @strange-universe
      @strange-universe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a thought here. All sales are not going to be back to a dealer, so... depending on location and general knowledge, the selection might be more important.

    • @HifiCentret
      @HifiCentret 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SilverDragons47 I can't disagree that is has a little influence on price. But lets be honest. Most of those coins are bullion - not collectors coins. If you're smart you buy them "pre milkspotted". That way you get more silver for less and in the event that prices go up - the less significance milkspots will have making them the smartest buy.
      And if/when prices hit the sky the less likely it becomes that you sell a coin to a private investor or coin dealer. By all chance it's going to be melted down and so milkspots are not significant.

    Both coins are good for stacking IMO. I'm pro USA as they come but it doesn't bother me that the queen is on them. If push comes to shove its still silver just like the ASE's. Stack what you like/want. If you're stacking something you're already ahead of the curve. If you want a better deal go for the Maple Leafs. As for me, I'm stacking both!

    Late to the convo but on the subject of beauty. I love the maple’s obverse. I think the eagles obverse is hideous and I can’t wait for the refresh. But on the reverse, the eagle wins. Walking liberty is my favorite coin design of all time. The queen’s profile does look nice but it isn’t as good. But if we are talking about proof and reverse proofs, the maples look incredible! I’d give them a draw on styling for the average coin.

    I’m from Canada and right now the American eagles is like over 10$ more than the maple and Britannia

    I stack them both because at the end of the day 1 ounce of silver is 1 ounce of silver and both are beautiful in their own right

    Interesting question. What do you think would happen if american silver eagles 2025 is backed by US for 50 dollars per ounce?

    Just bought my first (3 total 2019 maples). Yes, they were cheaper but as far as noticeable quality I hate to break it to the Canucks they do not seem to have the quality & artistry as the ASE. The little marks are cool and all but ASE look better! I had intentions on stacking the maples exclusively (might still mix it up). Time for the ASE to update the date reverse side of coin.

    Fast forward to 2023, ASE'S premiums are roughly $8 more than Maples.

    Just a thought, if the price of silver fell to below $5, wouldn't the denomination matter a bit more?

    • @SilverDragons47
      @SilverDragons47  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Brandon Swift I like said it would have to go below $3.70 USD to matter. I highly doubt that is even possible 🔥🐉

    I can’t believe you forgot to do the “ping/sound test” in the BEAUTY section😂.The ASE sounds nicer and longer when stricken by other coin,unlike the dull sounding Maple leaf.

      Since the Maple is more pure, it probably has to do with the thinner shape of the Maple vibrating easier.

    Cash still has it's advantages, you don't see people talking about wrinkles, recognition, quality and all that. Most people would take a hundred dollar bill even with booger on it. lol

    Im about to pick up silver rounds and I’m leaning heavily towards the Canadian maple leaf or the Britannia’s im really not a fan of the American silver eagle. Its very lackluster to me and lacks security which is everything to me. That and the premiums are insane.
