@@SS64DD I dont think they are really making money off PS3's running in servers. Its a limited library, and plenty of people internet murders the video quality. PS3/360 games being backwards combatable overall is a profit lost for both. Most users end up buying the game physical, and with no new productions its purely profit for the second hand market. The only real reason why sony would do this is just to make their features match the xbox, which wouldnt be a negative thing at all and would help sales a bit.

@@art3n4 THEY ACTUALLY CAN. They already working on ps3 emulator and had some results not ready yet, never say impossible, they developped the console and cpu, they know how it thing works. pc has already emulators, ps5 is capable of running that.
I wish I didn’t have to keep my PS3 around but it’s only way to play the last year they made an NCAA College Basketball game. The teams can all be edited so I’ve never stopped playing that game from 2010.

They say a new College basketball game is being developed but they won’t be allowing the edit function which is ridiculous. I’d rather keep playing 2010 so I can tweak the rosters. I am a huge Jayhawks fan and every year I update their roster and then update the roster of every team they play as the season goes. It takes about 15-20 min to edit and then bam your getting to play a good simulation of what the game might look like. It’s the same with UFC 5 on my ps5 I like to fights the fights that are coming up that week. Glad to see I’m not only one still playing a 15 year old game but that just shows how good that series was. I remember it when it was called Coach K ncaa basketball.
My dad was in love with these games, he got himself his own xbox360 just for them. When that went out, he got a new copy for the family ps3. Honestly the only game I saw him want to play, and hes now in his 60's.

Image someone having a huge collection of physical ps3 games discs and own a ps5 and later realising that few ps3 games which are available on ps5 needed to buy ps plus inorder to just stream them online and the console is not backward compatible will be devasted and sad asf

If its compatible with ps4 games the console is backwards compatible. The difference is all of yall want it it to go back all the way back 5 years to the ps1. Be realistic. They aren't gonna let you play all you old games for free. its about making money. Really yaw need to be lucky they went back one year. The other good thing in that you can still find ole gamed like crash bandicoot. Oddworld and sonic. Actual classics. I mean sonic goes all the way down to sega. I agree that we miss some old games. Unfortunately, nowadays not all games from PS2/3 can be played on PS4/5, such as Ratchet and Clank Size Matters or God of War Ghost of Sparta and Dante`s inferno. And there are still some games on PS2/3 that I would like to play again on PS4/5 both for nostalgia and to immortalize my trophies/achievements that I got on ps3
So it's deliberately software locked for PS3 discs to run on ps5, but it can run that game via a paid subscription 😂 then pay more for a PS3 game to erm...rent🤐... And not keep, I'm not going to pay that to play a PS3 game I got sitting on my shelf😂. The PS3 streaming game I guess runs with NO emulator... 🙄 I'm going back to PC where at least I can play a PS3 game via a free emulator on Windows, I will not be buying a ps5😤😤😤

If you want to play PS4 games just use such disc and PS5 reads it without any problems. For PS3 and below - only through PS subscription.
