    ESPN from 1991-2005 was must-watch TV.

    Kenny Beecham gives more interesting insights on the nba than all of espn. He’s just one dude in his basement vs a billion dollar company.

    Completely agree with this. I feel like the only time I really watch ESPN these days is if they have a game I really want to see on.

      Agreed. If I want real analysis I’ll just go on TH-cam and watch Brett Kollmann or something. The only time I’ve watched ESPN in the past year for sports stuff was 2 months ago when I was in a hotel and needed background noise lmao

    I used to watch ESPN religiously. Now I only watch for background noise or if it's my only option for a game.

    Had a lot of great points and it’s so nice to find someone who can fairly critique ESPN without getting needlessly political

      Appreciate you, politics do no good for society so I don’t talk about them on my channel nor do I care what networks say 😌

    The ESPN on NHL between the periods and pregame and post game were horrible, with no flare at all. Kind of boring

    ESPN HAS adapted to the “modern era”. It’s just the modern era doesn’t lend itself to 24 hour sports networks. You highlighted some YT shows that you like; well they aren’t live-streaming literally EVERY second of EVERY day a game isn’t on, are they? If ESPN just produced a single one hour show a day, I’m guessing they could make something much better.
    But of course they’d have to air it on a loop to fill out all the time slots, and people would make content criticizing ESPN for being repetitive.
    And I say this as someone that hasn’t watched ESPN non-live content since I finished college. In 2012.

    • @Kodiakk
      @Kodiakk  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No but at the same time, not every minute where sports aren’t on needs to be filled with guys who yell and scream at eachother

    • @Onlinerando
      @Onlinerando 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Kodiakkwell, it kinda does. Sports content essentially falls into 3 categories: breaking news, highlights, and takes. You can think of it as a parallel to journalism, where there is breaking news, pictures/videos, and editorials.
      Breaking news is kind of dead with smartphones being ubiquitous. Ditto for highlights. That kills your sports-specific shows that made up a big chunk of non-sportscenter content. So you’re left with takes. Whether it’s two or more guys yelling at each other, one guy yelling at the screen, or one guy waxing poetic, they are all just talking heads giving takes. None of those formats would get me to tune into ESPN or FSN. But I could see why ESPN and FSN would believe that the format that would get the most eyeballs would be multiple people yelling at each other.
      I think, for better or worse, ESPN’s focus is on creating a standalone ESPN app with the ESPN channels and ESPN+ content all in one. That will significantly reduce their need for filler content. In the meantime they will treat on air talent as disposable because hardly any of them actually “move the needle”. It is what it is.

    ESPN has been SO BAD for the UFL. genuinely, the camera work has been some of the worst, the broadcast is like.... ewwww.... and then theres little to no personality. its insane. i hope the UFL jumps ship from ESPN to TNT or fuckin ANYTHING

      NBC might be a candidate bc it would be some pretty solid exposure during the offseason

  • @viviannavicious
    @viviannavicious 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    No use in watching them when you can just watch analysis on youtube with channels like TFG, you have the more comedic stuff covered with Tree and Perna. Hell even small channels like yours are smarter than the talking heads screaming about the same shit different day. They need to do more documentaries original programming to people hooked, do the stuff youtubers and podcaster can't do, high production programs.

    • @Kodiakk
      @Kodiakk  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly, all that stuff is genuinely good. The stuff fans genuinely cannot make. I like their originals, but it’s insane how bad their quality is when they have an absolute war chest of cash
