    I love Argentina! I lived there 9 years - Buenos Aires is a beautiful city, the food is fantastic, and the people are very nice! I remember we were able to stay on our tourist visas for 6 months, then we had to cross an international boundary, going to Montevideo, Urugay, and returning to Argentina, we were good for another 6 months. We took the Buquebus from Bs. As. to Montevideo - an overnight trip! It was an experience (a good one, actually) I'll never forget! Eventually, we got permanent residency in Argentina, and lived there 9 years! (My oldest son was born in Bs. As., downtown in the Hospital Aleman (German Hospital), June 29, 1986, the day Argentina beat Germany in the Word Cup! I will never forget that day!) We had 3 sons born in while living there. It's an adventure well worth the trip!

      Gratsiela Borisova Just ask for a permanent residency once you are in as a tourist. Very easy. You just need your criminal record

    Mark, your timing is impeccable as I just began researching South America and the BA to MV ferry is one of those things I wondered about. Best ferries in my opinion - Istanbul, no matter how choppy the water is they are flat bottomed and it doesn't seem to make too much of a difference.

    Great video! In addition to Buquebus there’s another company called Colonia Express which also offers service between Bs As and Colonia. I used them to go to Colonia a month ago and returned with Buquebus the following day on a Saturday. It offered me more options with the available times. One thing is that the terminal for Colonia Express is on a different location of Puerto Madero on the side closest to La Boca neighborhood. I hope you had an awesome time in Bs As and Colonia (including having a chivito sandwhich in Colonia😊)

    I always take the slow one, it's like a mini cruise through the Rio de la Plata the ship has an open terrace with a bar, its quite beautiful if you like ships. It's cheaper too.

    I find it interesting that there was sea sickness experienced by the lady. When I took that ferry from B.A. to Colonia, I didn't realize the boat had left Argentina until I happened to look out a window. I found the ride to be very smooth.

    Colonia del Sacramento is a great 1 day experience but there's also a different way of enjoying it. I have two kids ( 2 and 8yo) so we took our car in the ferry and stood for a couple days, and drove our way around Uruguay while having our HQ on a Colonia's Hotel. It's amazing how different it is, from the madness of Buenos Aires as a propper metropolis to a calm, historical, almost country-side town as it is. Oh btw, it's highly recommended to book for Bussiness / first class every time, it really pays off...

    If Uruguay were an actual Argentine province and not independent, I don't really know if there would still be all those ferries between Buenos Aires and Colonia, considering that they might have built a bridge (maybe complete with trains as well as a road) over the Rio de la Plata between the two spots. Or at least with each end being near but not in those cities/towns.

    • @MrPoporucha
      @MrPoporucha 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, theres a law that states that all provinces must be conected by land where possible. There's a couple exceptions to this due to geographic reasons, like the province of Tierra del Fuego, which is an island in the southest part of the country.

    There must be some sort of regulatory constraint on operating the ferry service, because the ferries are really expensive, really popular & don't have good customer service. It's like South America's equivalent of the Eurostar.

So when others use them, those useful words tend to creep into our household vocabulary. We use random German, Greek, Portuguese, Italian or Spanish words daily in this house. 😉

    Everyone will want to know the price. I can't understand why there is no mention of it unless it's because of the inflation rate. Still, people would benefit from knowing it at the time of departure. It's basic and should have been included.

    You should do a series of videos where you travel to different countries on a limited budget to show people how they can save money on their holidays. For example staying in a town or city that's cheaper than staying in the capital, instead of using an expensive long haul airline like Virgin Atlantic or American airlines use a budget airlines like TUI fly, Thomas Cook airlines or Norwegian air shuttle, etc.

  • @MrPoporucha
    @MrPoporucha 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The two hours waiting rule is because there's no way for the buquebus company to know how many people may take a single ferry in any given time...ALSO IT'S A GREAT CHANCE TO MAKE YOU SPEND SOME MONEY IN THE INNER CAFES AND KIOSKS IN THE WAITING ROOM :V
