  • At last the project reaches a conclusion - apart from a couple of minor tidying-up items. But, it works and I'm quite pleased that it works as well as it does! Not without a few problems on the way, mostly of my own doing, it has to be said. Enjoy!

    Hello John,
Congratulations on getting it completed... I am sure there will be a few tweaks along the way as with most project... an enjoyable series, thank you.
    Take care.

Thanks, Paul. I must say, it has been a rewarding project, all the better for working as intended. John.

I use regular files on mine. I turn them upside down and grind a tang if necessary on wider files. Smaller square and round ones work fine as is.

Thanks, Wayne. I have a number of files to try in that configuration. I was just worried that, being cheap import files, they might not take kindly to grinding. I'll have to experiment.

Nice job just what I have looking for , is it a kit ?, and what is there to stop all the filing’s going into the slide ?

Thankyou for the comments. No, it's not a kit. I designed it from scratch for fun as a result of a query on the Model Engineers' Workshop magazine forum from someone who wanted an alternative way to drive the vertical motion, other than the usual crank and con rod design. John

@@bizzibeeworkshop thanks I have gout in my hands so I struggle to hold a file and I restore antique clocks so do a lot of filing when making parts, that was my reason for asking.
      Thanks Dell
