The solo performer is Preetisha Mohapatra daughter of Guru Ratikant Mohapatra and Guru Sujata Mohapatra.

His movement is rather stiff and clumsy due to being too fat and overweight. This is not doing justice to the beauty of Odissi. Odissi dancers ought to be disciplined to watch their weight and physically fit to be truly dedicated to this beautiful art.

Shame on the organizers of Sankat Mochan festival. If the video is from Sankat Mochan organizers really then I am so sorry to say about the unprofessionalism. It is just because of Varanasi and its antiquity for which the famous artists bear it and attend the festival. Otherwise any of the international artists (particularly visual artists) will be reluctant to perform on such a low grade stage. I couldn't understand the necessities to arrange such a music programme inside the temple which itself is so tiny. Everything has changed in time course but these bunch of people have not. I am sure almost all the people who are now arranging the festival including the fool who has uploaded this video do not have any sense of Indian classical music. They are only using this platform to earn money. Just watch how poorly the video has been edited & uploaded. I have no issue with the editting but it should be properly edited. The caption is without any relevant info. No ifo on the singer, song, raga, topic nothing. As if the uploader only knows the name of the performer. Even no where mentioned that it is Odissi dance. It seems, in a tradition to call the best artists of the era and just because the artists are son and daughter in law of Kelucharan they have called both. I know Ratikant Mohapatra. Otherwise he must have denied for such an event. Somebody should educate the man who who upload how to edit videos to be uploaded in a social platform such as youtube. Anybody can check this is not the case here but same in all other videos uploaded in Sankat Mochan channel. So sad..

For a dancer, being fat and overweight is disgraceful to the dance form. The great guru Kelucharan Mohapatra was never fat in spite of his age.

Weight never defines a dancer or his/her love for dance. Its quite equal when u judge a differently abled person saying that they are disrespecting dance. Please don't dishonour a person by his/her looks. Whether fat or thin dance is within us, and jst helps showcasing it.

Don't be in denial. Facts are facts for all to see. Being fat takes away the gracefulness of the dance, that’s a fact. Makes body movements restricted and clumsy. That's a fact. He’s popular because of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. And the great guru was never fat in spite of his old age. That’s true discipline and dedication to the art. If one truly loves the art, one has to have the discipline to stay in shape.
But of course you may say round is also a shape, haha...but it's ugly for Odissi. But can hide the fat in Kathakali costume I guess. Just saying. Peace.
