Just an awesome video!!! I am trying to put mine together but I am jammed up on the Bcg and the gas rail system. I am looking for the VERY basic explanation for both! It seems most you tube starts out in a mid level build but you did an amazing job and took your time to explain down to the exact detail Thank You!!!
I tend to use 1 of 2 methods to line everything up. I use either my cheap borescope to ensure gad holes are lined up or i utilize a small diameter piece of balsa wood. I place a piece in gasblock hole and place on barrel. When both holes line up the piece of balsa wood will fall into the barrel. I then tighten everything up and knock the sliver of wood out of tha barrel with cleaning rod. All done.
If you’re confident with the AR platform that’s not really needed for example, looks like you have some sort of M4 Variant barrel seeing the 203 cut up front No most decent barrel manufacturers from your hundred dollar bowels to thousand dollar barrels I usually go for cold hammer forged Chrome lined The most recent barrel is an amphora barrel it’s the heavy socom 14.5 barrel for the sopmod program it’s a colt profiled barrel so it’s made by centurion arms they get cold hammer forged blanks from I believe FN and they’re also double chromed barrel Polish feed ramps and a very very tight gas block that was cross pen and using a taper pin getting it back on I put CLP all over the barrel used in a mallet the gas block also had a centered tab that corresponds to a cut out in the barrel so it slides on and doesn’t go left or right and the pinning stops it from moving forward in any fashion and at a .061 carbon gas system with a heavy h2…. You don’t want gas leakage so a tight fit on the I’d of the block to the od of the barrel my setups I look for a solid gas system that’s why people talk about knights rifles because they have a proprietary system but their barrels don’t need to be as highly gassed to compensate for leakage which you shouldn’t have to compensate for. Any easy test is just take your gas block and see if it drops right over the top of the barrel straight down and if it goes drops right to the collar it’s way too loose of a gas block It’s escaping around the barrel causing issues eventually so build around a quality a barrel and gas syatem
I’ve been pleased with the performance and function of this gas block. Downside is you have to have a tool with you when you want to make adjustments. However I’m pretty consistent with the ammo I shoot so it’s not something I have to tweak very often. Understanding how to adjust the block was confusing in the beginning as there are 2 modes (bleed off and restrictive). However once I figured it out it’s no big deal. Bleed off is the preferred way. Would I buy it again? Absolutely.
There's a bit of a gap between the end of the ruler and the start of the measuring numbers. Will that make a difference where the gas block is actually located?
Nice video. I am installing an Aero Precision adjustable gas block which doesn’t come with a roll pin, hopefully I can reuse the pin from the one I am taking off. Also, just for context, mention that the Flash hider or muzzle brake has to come off to get the gas block onto the barrel. Which means you then need a crush washer upon resembling flash hider or muzzle brake.
That was not thread locker like loctite or other variants are. that's a tread sealer such as Teflon tape the permatex version of red loctite is called threadlocker red high strength, I use it often as well as the orange low strength. Please do NOT use thread sealer as a thread locker the only thing holding those set screws in is the torque u set them to, it may hold forever or it may hold 5 rounds and loosen up. The point of thread locker is to remove that chance. Ps when u get actual threadlocker don use the red high strength on any thing you don't want to be permanent it is very strong, low to medium strength is more than enough for small screws
Yeah but the tube you are using is thread sealant not thread locker (says it on the side). If it comes out white it is sealant. If it was red lock tight it would be a semi transparent red liquid. 19:07
I’m using the edge of the ruler from the same reference point so it’s not relevant what the actual measurement is. What matters is the distance is the same and consistent.
These are some of the best videos on ARs on TH-cam…detailed, no nonsense, clearly spoken, without opinion. Thank you!
I agree.
I use my air compressor and blow some air through it making sure it’s correct and clearly open. It works great.
By far the most informative videos I've found for ar installation and service. Thank you!!!
I use a air line and blow compressed air in the gas tube and turn the gas block until i have it set the the best flow and tighten the block
yes I’ve heard of doing it that way. Sounds like a good technique.
I have heard of others using that technique before. I have personally never tried it. Sounds like something to try. Thanks for the info.
Thank you for covering this, best gas block install video I've seen. 👍

If you have specific questions I will do my best to answer them.

Very creative. I would not have thought of that. Thanks for sharing.
The bob ross of the ar world, thank you sir
Awesome work. Thank you for such clear and informative videos.

Very good just what I was looking for
How do you like the adjustability of that block? Considered buying one of those, but will likely ante up for the Riflespeed adjustable one.

Another awesome video. Priceless. Thx
Great video, thank you.
That's not locktite, it's thread sealant. It's made for sealing threads so the don't leak. Locktite is a thread locker.
Thanks for catching that. A couple of other people have made the same observation.
@@GunTalk556 sorry, I didn’t read all the comments. Great instructional videos though.
NIce work! thanks for the video.
Sir thank you for your help.
I should've come here first before rushing into mine. Made 2 rookie mistakes.. now im waiting on a new roll pin. 😅😢
There's a bit of a gap between the end of the ruler and the start of the measuring numbers. Will that make a difference where the gas block is actually located?
The actual starting point and numerical value is not relevant. What we are looking for is to ensure the distance is the same.

That’s correct. You can’t reuse a crush washer.
Will a BCM MCMR handguard fit over. SA clamp on AGB? I have read the set screw type will but not the clamp on.
The only time I've run into clearance issues w/ SA agb, is on heavier barrels; .750's ought to be fine.
Thank You 🙏

I’m aware thanks. Several people have brought it to my attention.
I should modify the video at some point
Red loctite won’t last lol the barrel gets way over 200° 😂
I don’t use anything now. The screws bite I got the steel and hold tight. I haven’t had any issues with them doing loose.
Just use the rifle speed system.
That looked like high temp thread sealant NOT thread locker.
It’s red locktite. A heat gun or something comparable will remove it.
Yeah but the tube you are using is thread sealant not thread locker (says it on the side). If it comes out white it is sealant. If it was red lock tight it would be a semi transparent red liquid. 19:07
I have made this exact mistake before is why I am posting.
It sure is, good catch. Thank you!
@@GunTalk556 no problem! Also take a look at High temp Rocksett for the gas block. Can go to much higher temps than red locktight
If that set screw isn’t set in the barrel dimple properly, it will blow off the gun. Trust me.
Rocksett not red loctite...
Using that ruler, you will need to add 1/8th inch to your measurements. Poor quality ruler for the job.
