- On this episode of You , Me and Sicily we take you you Melilli in the Province of Siracusa. Among the most important buildings are the mother church dedicated to Saint Nicola, the municipal building and the church of Saint Sebastian. There is even a church dedicated to Saint Sebastian in Middletown, Connecticut built by all the migrants from Melilli. But many others settled all over the world.
We also visit the public space and meet a nice volunteer working on keeping the statue of Padre Pio clean and good condition.
Also we take you to the industrial zone and give you a bit of history and how it affected the area.

My grandfather helped build the replica in Middletown. I love how they mention it. It’s a beautiful little town!
I was born there right across from St. Sebastian Church. Many may remember my father and my mother Gaetano and Maria Germano. This brings back many wonderful memories of a beautiful place.
Glad you enjoyed it!
My son is a great-grandson of one of the families that migrated from Menilli Sicily to me and my ancestors home town Middletown Connecticut. The Guestellas. I loved sharing this video with him. Thank you for posting it.
My mother's father's family is from here. My great grandparents settled in Middletown, CT. I went to the Festival of St. Sebastian for the first time last month! So cool to have a connection to my heritage right here in CT!
We're having a family reunion next Saturday and hopefully I'll make it to Mellili soon.😊
My grandparents were both born in Sicily and separately made their way to Middletown,CT, where they lived for the rest of their lives. I would love to visit Melilli someday!
My great grandparents came from Melilli to Middletown CT. I grew up going to St. Sebastián church. My plan is to visit next year. Thanks for the fantastic video!
Glad you liked it!
I grew up there also off of Silver St. could walk to downtown. Married into the Tringali Coonan family in 1982.
Great-Grandfather was one of the masons from Melilli that built St. Sebastian's in Middletown. Love Sicily and my ancestors.
That is so cool!
Have you visited?
Loved watching this one again. We traveled to Melilli to find my wife's family and arrived at the little park down from the church. Ran into a man from Middletown CT who put us in touch with the Girgenti family whom we have kept in contact for 20 years.
That is so cool!
Another great video! My mother's folks are from Augusta. I visited in 2018. What a wonderful place.
Love Augusta !!!
Great-great grandfather, Sebastian (note the name, related to the local Saint!), and great grandmother, Philimena Sampiere were from Melilli. She came to CT, via NY in 1905. Other great-great grand father, Carmelo, and great grandmother Sebastiana (note the name, again!), were from Priolo Gargallo, mentioned in the video and apparently right down the road from Melilli. She came to the US, via NY, to CT in 1913. I hope to visit these places, but so nice to see them, here, in such a high quality and well-narrated video. Thank you! Makes me feel a connection to these people and to these places.
Thank you for all the work into bringing these amazing videos. Another beautiful town
What a beautiful town. I love the fact that they build a replica of San Sebastian in Middletown. Very interesting!
My Roccapriore Familia orchestrated the building of this church in Middletown, CT
I went last Sunday to St Sebastian’s Church in Middletown, CT. Thanks to Alfred & Eszter for telling me about it.❤️🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻
Visited Melilli in 2012. My grandmother was born in Melilli and grandfather moved their when he was 3 y/o. Hope to go back. Enjoyed a lovely lunch in Ortiga and toured Siracusa. Some of my relatives lived in Middletown, CT
We love Ortigia! Here is video we did on it : th-cam.com/video/zhaa7Ejq29U/w-d-xo.html
The panoramic view is my favorite part of your video. So beautiful!
Grazie Mille ! Yes it was quite fabulous !
I’ve visited twice. My grandparents and my father were born in Melilli and I still have family there.
Thank you! I grew up in Middletown and Married a 2 generation Tringali from Malilli.
Thanks!
GRAZIE mille!
Beautiful little town, another gem tucked away on our belissima Sicilia ❤️🌞 I love the history, the architecture of all our old towns and hope they never change them to modernize them. These towns are precious and hold our history, our ancestors history stays alive❤️ never to be forgotten.
So many gems we hope to continue highlighting on this channel!
Enjoy! Can't wait to visit Sicilia again
The inside of the cathedral is so colorful and beautiful. Of all the times that we stayed in Ortigia and traveled around, I can't believe we never visited the historical center of Melilli - only the commericial district.
In Sicily, there are treasures at every corner !
I was so impressed with this town!
My Roccapriore familia, (Grandfather & siblings) originally from Melilli orchestrated the building of St Sebastian Church in Middletown, CT.
Wow that is great!!
How many of us are related? Grew up in Middletown married into Tringali/Coonan family
Another gem ! I have a 4x great grandmother Cira Moncada who died 1829 Palermo havent been able to find out where her family was prior will add this to my list for sure !!
beautiful Melilli :)
Very interesting how our ancestors came over here.
Yes and continued so many traditions like my Grandparents and the Feast of Saint Alfio in Lawrence, Mass!
My dad is from Solarino.
'E una vecchia e bella cita.
Si e BELLA !
Just a puntualization; yes, Melilli comes from latin " mel, mellis...", not apple, but Miele, in English honey...
I knew a Sicilian-American priest from Melissa.
Jim I have been researching great painters. We decided to make an episode down the line...famous writers too.
However, Antonella di Messina and Renato Gutuso are ,in my opinion, the top two. Just my opinion. I will mention them on the chats. Gutuso was a character for sure..
A safe distance from the live volcano.
A beautiful video. But please change the narration that says the Italians worshipped St. Sebastian..... Catholics worhip only GOD. We honor and venerate saints and pray to them to intercede with God for us. Thank you!
