    Synopsis : In an attempt to close the trap which she has set for Samson, Dalila tells Samson
    seductively that she is completely his if he wants her. She begs him to respond to her
    caresses, hoping that he will finally let go of all other things and concentrate completely on
    her, allowing the High Priest of Dagon to capture him.
    Robert Glaubitz provides both the french to english, but as this is sung in Italian, the
    english translation is represented here in part.

    One can understand every word. It is not just about "sound". Those "deliri" and "ebbrezza" are simply wonderful.

    I have a prejudice agst. opera performed in a language other than the original. In this case, the prejudice is suspended! Perfect timbre, perfect legato singing. Incomparable.

    @ducadimantua1 Thanks for sharing this. Simionato has long been one of my favourite mezzos and, in my opinion, she still carries the mantle of so many mezzo roles. Someone I know recounted how they saw her as Amneris at Covent Garden in 1964 with Galina Vishnevskaya as Aida; apparently she smouldered intensely, using her eyes to fantastic theatrical effect.
    I love her studio recordings too, but they do not compare to her live recordings. Such a wonderful artist!

    @Otellogv I heard Simionato sing Rosina at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia in the Fifties. She was bewitching. It is mostly her acting which I remember. In the early Sixties I heard her sing with Bergonzi at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. I don't remember the whole program, but the duet "Ai nostri monti" from Trovatore haunts me to this day. I remember thinking how different the voice sounded from her very "focussed" sound on recordings. DJS Gleaton

    @DavidJSGleaton How lucky you are to have heard this unique singer live. I've often thought that Simionato's live recordings capture a more exciting voice than some of the studio recordings, however, it must have been mind-blowing to have heard her live. What did you hear her sing?

    Samson et Dalila es una opera que me suena mejor en francés, o en idiomas con vocalidad mas cerrada, mas "pegajosa", mas cerrada y remarcada. El italiano tiene las vocales demasiado abiertas. Lo que esta claro es que Simionato es increible. Impresionante cantante, enorme interprete, y una Dalila magnifica.
