Excellent video! I also believe that if he played more Isaac could be the best defender in the NBA. Was pretty surprised to see no Wemby or AD in the top 10 though. I think I get why but I'd like to hear your thoughts
Thanks! Well, I listed my top 7. Both AD and Wemby are probably in my top 15. One thing that stands out about both of them is that ball handlers do elude them off the dribble quite a bit on drives. Wemby is an amazing shot blocker, obviously, but his positional technique needs work in my opinion. One stat I saw was that Wemby’s defensive blow-by percentage on the perimeter was near 35 percent, which is close to the bottom of the league..but don’t get me wrong, Wemby is amazing and will be a DPOY candidate for many years I would guess.
There you go,@@josh_cohen_nba. But the fact the crappy Spurs go from last in team defense to 6th when VW is on the floor, WHICH IS < 30min/gm, brings into focus just his presence alone makes players avoid wanting to be an ESPN highlight.

Where do you source your advanced stats from?
Second Spectrum is the primary source for the advanced numbers. That info I put in the subtitles. But for deeper analytics, it’s typically Second Spectrum. Stathead via basketball reference is another great source for some advanced data
Andre Drummond is one of the better defensive big men too. Surprised he wasn't on your list.

He’s a great defender, obviously, but the seven I mentioned, based on what I’ve seen and via some key numbers, have been the best defenders this season IMO. Wemby is going to make an All-Defensive team this year, though. Of the seven I mentioned, Mobley, OG and Isaac won’t be eligible. But when they’ve played (OG for NY), their defense has been incredible.

I thought about including him, but like with AD and Wemby, who in my top 7 has to be excluded? I feel those 7 have been the best this season in my opinion.

Both are great. For the entire season, defensively speaking, Chet has just made a far greater defensive impact. Wemby obviously the better offensive player. But wemby is great on both ends.

For the entire season when guys have played, I just personally feel the seven i mentioned have been the best. Wemby is phenomenal, without question.
Rudy is winning dpoy he’s had a bigger impact on defense. Spurs aren’t a top 15 defense with or without wemby
