Beach volleyball made its Olympic debut at the 1996 Atlanta Games. USA and Brazil shared all the gold medals in the subsequent four editions, except in Sydney where the Australian women's team dominated.

According to the FIVB rule book for 2009-2012, blocks counted as a hit already.

Usually, the opponent serves to the back row player instead of the blocker but in this case they didn’t. Why did the Russians serve straight to Gibb every time if he’s the better hitter?

Its not that. Its because hes a good hitter that they tend to target the weaker hitter (not they either of them are week hitters) he can receive its just smarter to target the smaller one because number 2's height gives him and advantage. Take Walsh (Kerri Walsh Jennings) as and example whenever she gets a set she smashes the vall straight down and the same is here. Why go against a strong hitter when you can go against a maybe weaker one or not a strong

the hitters are doing their approach too late and aren't able to put a lot of power on their hits because of it

Huge difference between sand and court play...its a completely different game, height is a huge advantage as a guy with a 40" vertical get about half that in the sand.

A lot of float serves because it's outside and the wind can make it trickier for the opponent to pass the ball.

Gosh what do you think? Boys can only play basketball?! omg basketball is even easier than vball. Keep in mind that everyone can shoot but not everyone can receive.
The learning curve for basketball much steeper than volleyball. Dribbling and shooting a basketball are quite unnatural for the majority of people, while setting and hitting a volleyball come quite naturally.
