I think everyone has their own method. I pick a "category" or "system" for the year and I focus on that. In 2023 I wanted to play more 16-bit games so I decided for the first 6 months I'll play SNES games and the last 6 months I played Genesis games. One year I did "year of the PlayStation" and I played SONY games on all consoles. Sure I played games on other consoles just to break it up, but I really stuck to the core of what I wanted to accomplish. In 2024 I'm going to play whatever I want, but I think in 2025 I'm going to play games in franchises where I've never beaten a game in that franchise. So like, Double Dragon, Wild Arms, Jak & Daxter etc. (But I really need to make a list of these magical franchises..lol) Tylord is the best
I remember the year of playstation! I just wanna get through some of these games man. I really have owned some of these for soooooooooo long and just never got around to them.
My backlog got shaved down a lot after I decided I could never beat every game I own, so I decided to consider my games done after I've just played it a little. I've played 8 games this year already and beaten 5 of them. Long live Putt-Putt!
The nintendo switch was my last video game console that I bought, So I only buy games for generation eight and lower, That helps a bit and I'm not planning on getting any more new consoles. There are still so many games that I have to go back to. Also, I'm not really into open world, RPG long games. They're not my cup of tea. And I just don't have the time and patience for them, So that helps me a little😅 🍻🕹🎮🤘
Oh yea open world games have gotten tooooo big at this point imo. I think I were to get the next consoles I would only do the Nintendo and PlayStation and only collect physical for the Nintendo games.
@@DatGameCollector Also i'm sick and tired of the digital media games and the patches and upgrades and the micro transactions and all that bullshit!..... I Miss the days when you bought a game, put it in your console and play it
My process: - split my games into high-priority and low-priority. High-priority is “I will be sad if I don’t play it this year” and low priority is “I’d like to play this, but I don’t mind if that happens later/never”. If you have too many games to fully list, just find 50-100 high-priority games. Adjust based on your usual yearly completion rate. - List every game in high-priority and look up How Long to Beat - estimate my play-time over the next year. Basically, you usually know how much you game per week on average. Then you multiply by 52. If you’re off by a bit, it’s OK. - compare your time box to your wishlist of completions and start to make some hard decisions - the last step is the most brutal: once a game makes it into my low-priority list multiple years in a row, I sell it (physical) or put it out of my mind (digital)
In reality I probably never fully do the above, just try to frame my thinking based on this ideal scenario. My actual “system” is freaking out about it and just buying more games. Good luck bro and thank you for keeping the videos coming. It’s a real f’in treat
If I get a new game in the mail, I make sure to play that first, usually I'm already excited to play the new games anyway. Then I look at games that I've had for a long time.
That’s a good idea to rotate systems. When I’m done my count down. I am finishing Fable 2 then moving on to 3. From there I will have to see, probably EvoLand 2.
I have always enjoyed your videos and your enthusiasm for games. Glad to see you making consistent content again. I always find something useful in your content like a game i missed or one that i had forgotten that i need to go back and play! Your work is appreciated.
Backlog is a good problem to have with this new generation of consoles. Next to nothing has been released to take advantage of the series X or ps5. Good plan you have. I make a list of about 4 or 5 games and I focus on those for about 3 months and then move on to the next set of games. Good luck buddy.
I’m a firm believer in playing multiple games at a time. For a few years now I’ve had at least one or two major RPGs in my rotation alongside fighting games and whatever else I’m feeling like at the time. Usually I have between 5-10 games I’m going back and forth with unless one really hooks me. If that system doesn’t keep working for me, I’m considering categorizing some games by playtime to set realistic goals.
You're getting me pumped about the backlog, just like back in the back challenge days! I need to tackle them by jumping from console to console like you are. I'm getting hung up on NES at the moment. I'm trying to get these games done this year: Dragon Quest 7, Mega Man 64, Maniac Mansion, Alan Wake, Tecmo's Deception, Super Mario RPG, Star Ocean New Hope, Zero Tolerance, PS3 Star Trek and many more. Sudeki you can probably get done in 20-30 hours. I don't remember it being as long as a Final Fantasy. That Dragon Quest 8 is probably around 80 but enjoyable for every minute
If you have a Genesis, you can get an adapter to play Master system games so you wouldnt need a new console. For my backlog, I try to beat a game and then allow myself to purchase more games. I still cant get ahead of the backlog growth, but I feel like im attempting to address the issue. There is a bit of a limit since the retro console libraries are relatively finite (but I do love the new games for the old consoles). Im tackling the Turbografx games this year. Started with Neutopia and will progress through the RPGs and shooters. May not ever finish the entire collection, but I will at least give them all a play. Dont really need to complete all my games, but I should at least play them.

But I want to play it this year as I'm now at the point where I feel burned out on new games (besides the big titles like FF7 Rebirth) and I want to recapture a bit of the fun I used to have years ago! And for me, that fun was when I had my PS1 and Saturn plugged in on 2 crt tvs at my 1st apartment! Speaking of PS1, you'll go down a rabbit hole if you start to look at rpgs on that system lol! There are so many good ones! OK enough rambling, as I've already wrote down a novel lol! Great video and keep up the good work!

In the wargaming hobby they call it the lead pile of shame. Both are impressive for me! My miniature backlog is my chief priority personally. Folks can possess games for different reasons, as you know. Some games I own out of completeness or merely to enjoy a few times a year. I buy few rpgs. Most games I play aren't the time sinks that require such investment. Lord knows painting can take up enough time! I guess I'm more the wargammer anymore.
@@DatGameCollector Wargaming is the catch-all term for table top strategy games that relate to warfare as a theme. The most popular/famous example being the Warhammer 40k miniature game by Games Workshop. So grown adults playing with army men sorta deal. It's better than it sounds I swear! If you like RTS games or Turn based, it's a natural transition. I don't prefer 40k personally, as I prefer historics. GW has a unsavory reputation among wargamers for artificially spiking prices. There sort of the EA (or Nintendo at there worst) of the industry. I have boycotted them for a number of years. The shame of it is they hold the rights to the Lord of the rings game, whose model range is spectacular. GW has many talented sculptors, it's just a lousy company really. The game I primarily play is called Bolt Action. It's essentially the WW2 equivalent to 40k, but with legitimate RNG and tactics. Instead of a I go you go model, it utilizes a random die activation, with each individual unit within a platoon/company activating separately. It's super fun. There is a number of let's play videos on TH-cam if you ever feel morbidly curious, though it can be Abit like baseball in that it can be rather drawl to watch. Like most things, whose playing what and how, makes all the difference.

Im currently working on YS 8 and Valkyria Chronicles and after about 60 hours collectively haven't finished either! Im having alot of fun tho
Holy crap. How did you have that much time! You played so many good games too I see a ton of my favorites in there.
Yea RPGs are so great but so long. But good value for dollar spent.
@@DatGameCollector Well one big thing is I don't watch TV or movies and I got off of social media a couple years ago. I do watch youtube, but really I just listen to it while I'm at work and rarely watch at home.
I have 3 year old twins so my time is definitely at a premium. After my kids go to bed I have 2 hours during the week and around 5 hours on a weekend evening. But I make a conscious decision that at 8:00PM my gaming time begins. The switch has also helped out a lot as well for RPG's
Got 1,500+ games in my backlog. I just decided to stop buying anything after this generation. I’ll buy another console (maybe) when I’m retired. I’m turning 38 soon. I already have more than a lifetime worth of games, so I’ll have to choose carefully.
Probably not a bad plan! I've never counted my games. Idk how many i have vs how many i haven't finished?
@@DatGameCollector Excel sheets work very well. 😉
Im playing the games i want to beat on my ps portal so i have no excuse to stop even on the toilet.
even on the potty?
Nope, you don't have a backlog problem, you have a logistic issue and the best way to solve it is to send all that backlog to my address, I'll even pay for delivery! Don't worry I'll make sure all the games you send my way get the play time they deserve.
Hahahaha yea too many games
😂😂😂🤣🤣👍
You would be smart to sell those sealed expensive copies and pick up used copies and pocket the profit......but that's just me.
Yea you're probably right!
I started Sudeki last year on my modded Xbox. I thought it was decent so far. Still have a was to go though.
I have always wanted to play it.
Honestly I dont care I just like collecting and playing games if I play I play if not it doesn't matter. I have over +1,000 game I will never be able to beat/play them all
If you try you can!
I use the one system at a time system also lol
Currently stuck in the last boss fight on star ocean second r
I bought dragon quest 8 and kid icarus and Xenoblade on 3ds bedore it closed, always wanted to play a dragon quest game after watching the movie "dragon quest you"? I thonk its the title. Anyways it blew my mind wide open with its story and i guess the story is based on a dragon quest game? So i really wanna try them out
Oh yea i remember the movie it was very good. Dragon quest 11 is really really good!
@@DatGameCollector thank you! Il be trying 11 then ,those graphics are fireflies
@@Truekingr6 yea and it came out 2017 and still looks amazing.
What's a war gamer? Like fps games?
FYI it’s pronounced “Blast CORE”!
do what?
