As an American we use “smorgasbord” all the time but it’s more about describing the quantity and selection of food rather than a specific kind of food. So when people say there was a smorgasbord of food they mean there was a ton of food and lots of various types of food to eat. A charcuterie board is pretty specific in that it has little meats and cheeses that you can snack on.

And a charcuterie board is a classic dish in France, it’s just some thin slices of different hams and different cheeses, and you eat them while drinking wine right before dinner. It’s called ‘’doing an aperitif’’
