- On behalf of Quake Family I decided to give massive THANK YOU to
John Carmack for being part of team, that started it all and eventually caused millions of fans worldwide to meet for decades here in Dallas for most energising convention in The World.
🍻 I bet "Commander Keen" with QuakeCon fans touched at least 1337 independent topics during 2 to 3 hours when actual line was created.
Answering theirs questions to depths only few can understand and bringing back amazing tradition of him talking to nerds after each Keynote on previous QuakeCons🥰
Was pleasure meeting you sir, welcome home❣️
Must be a great feeling knowing that every time the crowd cheers for something it's because of what you created
I'd say he got used to it, it's been 30 years so it's like morning coffee for him
What an absolute legend. I've been enjoying his work since Commander Keen. Still playing quake live almost every day ~25 years later.
whipper-snapper here. I too, have been enjoying quake live as of late.
Commander Keen was the first time I saw a PC game going eye to eye with Nintendo consoles. My dad always had computers, Commodore, Amiga, 386, but I felt the games sucked and I was begging my parents to buy a console for years. But then Commander Keen, Xcom, Descent, Tie Fighter and TFX came around and my priorities suddenly shifted... and my dad was furious everytime I messed up config.sys again. So I finally got my own, used Pentium 100 after a few more years of begging... ;)
Same dude but somehow i still suck at multiplayer 😂
look at the enthusiasm and pure kindness and humility when he answers to the questions from a simple fan - this man is just so inspiring...what a legend person and programmer...
He looks amazing for his age.
The benefits of training martial arts for decades
"I think the world is a problem waiting to be optimized" - John Carmack. What a great thing to say!
John Carmack is one of my heroes. What a legend. The best programmer, coder in gaming world ever.
The Master. MODing Quake led me to learn C and that kick-started my career as a programmer. 🙌🏼
Man , so glad Quakecon is back in person , you can feel the energy and Carmack is there as well. He is so happy to be back . Even if he is not with ID anymore , you can tell he is very welcomed and his presence there is as if he never left . I really hope of some sort of colab with Id in some capacity , with his new AI endeavors, something . Him working with vg again would be perfect . The only one missing was Romero, how i wish for him as well to colab with ID ,maybe making at least one level .
@@Bloodyshinta1 That is great news , thanks .
The company as it was is gone and disbanded, but you can watch at each individuals streams or videos and hear that they are very much still in contact. From Romero, to Hall, both Carmacks to Sandy, they still keep in touch, collab, or share ideas.
@@Gibdion Yea I would assume, bit also Carmak with ID to some degree . I would love for him to return to the industry , maybe with his AI endovers, Romero too I would love a small colab with ID , with Hugo and his team to design a level or too for their next game .
He may not be in the company anymore but I guarantee you he’s applauded by everyone who currently works there every time he comes to visit.
Meanwhile the chosen people are counting HIS money.
He should have said to any buyer not for sale and gtfo.
Out of curiosity, I asked....
"No Ongoing Revenue: Carmack does not receive money from the sales of Doom 3 or other id Software games. His financial interests in id Software would have been concluded following his departure and the acquisition of ZeniMax Media by Microsoft"
What a legend this man is. Awesome interview man, nice to see some of camera stuff from qcon.
Legend
It took people a decade to even discover all the mechanics he made with Quake architecture. Dude is HIM.
It's Abrash mostly, I suppose.
I started tearing after watching this video. This man actually doesn't even realize how fucking great he is
The man, the legend!
That Quakecon 2008 logo on the shirt. ^_^ The Quakecon when they showcased id Tech 5 engine and RAGE tech demo.
And funny enough it was last QuakeCon, where I was before this year ;-)
Romero and Carmack what legends
Man, I miss Carmack's keynote speeches.
Man I would LOVE to see a Camrack+old team tackle a modern fps. Doesn't even have to have the best graphics just needs to play damn good. I beat Quake 2 Remastered the other day and man the movement, the shooting, the weapons, so good.
I got a chance to meet him very briefly at one of his presentations years ago and he signed my q3a cd cover. That was one of the best days in my life for real. He is so awesome and smart and humble and polite. We were just some dumbazz kids back then, had to borrow parents car to drive out there... it made a huge impression on me! Long live the king!
Thank you interdenominational space warlock and whisperer of the divine tongue John Carmack!
This guy is one of the most brilliant minds to ever walk the earth.
I'm so glad I had John Carmack growing up, as a Role model. Truly a great human, just oozing inspiration and positivity for so many of us.
John "The Legend" Carmack - authentic & down to earth.
I still play quake brother... and I'm still waiting for Quake Wars 2 😅 one day onnnnneeeee daaaayyyyy 🙏🥶🤙
Great questions! Loved his responses.
I loved, how universe basically aligned itself to make a such great background with Quake Pro League on stage. That I ask him to think about that topics while he could feel the joy we have from Quake. That is why it was special moment for me and I was honoured to be with him at that time.
Great interview 👍
Amazing video. I love John Carmack so much.
I fking love John Carmack. It always brings me a smile to see him pop up. What a legend

That's so cool. I wish I could ask him about nerd stuff.
That's why I decided to go to more emotional and community stuff, there was line of nerds asking him nerdy stuff for almost 3 hours - basically that Thank you, was what I had on my heart after running at QuakeCon for 5th day at that point.
Český přízvuk jde poznat hned.
;-) Jojo, je to tam - a těžko se ho ve svejch letech už zbavím
神一樣的男人 頂尖的技術 謙虛 大方 精進 太多可以形容他的用詞

John Carmack, Cliff Bleszinski, Gabe Newell. Legends
Wait, carmack is a lefty?!? 😳
Where is quake 6?
Why doesn't John Romero participate here?
John Carmack is super polite guy except be a unhumam ;) programmer xD
It's a real travesty there's not John keynote on Quakecon anymore, because it was the real highlight.
and look how they ruined his legacy, ruined with quake champions, poor guy
?
nah, John Carmack will go down in history. People will write history reports on him.
