    One caveat on (6:10) mils for long range target shooting: many of the traditional target shooting sports (F- class for example) use MOA targets so it makes sense to use MOA scopes for those, even if you use MILs for other things like hunting or PRS etc. It's a lot like inches or cm: as a Canadian we'll use both in the same sentence depending on the object being measured, and the same goes for MOA and MILs: just make sure both people know what units are being used.

    It’s good to know how to use whichever scope you get. I have no idea how to use the Christmas tree reticle so I shouldn’t get it unless I can find someone to teach me how to use it. How woukd I know how far to hold over for wind if I don’t know how fast the wind is blowing or from which way. If you don’t know that it’s pointless.

    I was hoping that you would cover BDC

    • @slimjim2584

      BDCs are only really useful for specific loads with specific barrel lengths. This works on big military programs as nearly everyone uses the same ammo in the same guns.
      However, in the civilian world, there is so much variability and choice, you are better off being more flexible with mil (or moa) lines and using a ballistic calculator for the load and gun.
      There are smartphone apps that let you instantly calculate drops for generic reticles with whatever barrel and ammo you have. The best for the longest time was "Strelok", which is unfortunately russian in origin (Strelok means "gunslinger/shooter/gunman" russian) and was sanctioned by the feds off the android store. You can still get it if you look around, but there are other apps in the store that are for the same purpose.

      When you get a generic BDC it'll be close, but you'll still have to memorize your drops if you want to to be dead on. So most people just buy a mil reticle and memorize those numbers instead, and then you also get all the advantages of the mil reticle as well as the BDC.
      You could also use speed drop (either an excel version or Kestrel) to calculate drop with only one number (for example 1mil differences might result in something like 500yds = ~2.5mils, 600 = ~3.5mils, and 700 = ~4.5): this means you have to memorize a lot less to get mil holds for multiple ranges.

    I have an old mark 4 with tmr reticle and MOA turrets. Why in gods name did they do that?

    • @wilfdarr
      @wilfdarr ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, just such a dumb idea. Even worse is that mildots with MOA turrets was the common military setup until 2012, in my mind it's criminal to handicap your soldiers through incompetence like that: why did it take until 2012 for procurement to realize that mildots should have mil turrets?! And for everyone who's going to show up saying "it's not so bad, you can make it work", the Europeans already had mil/mil systems, we should not have been asking our soldiers to "make it work"!

    Why when i keep buying rifle scopes for my rifle it stops zeroing? Is it because i didnt choose the perfect scope for my rifle or is the scope made for other rifles and why when i zero my scope it wont go bullseye in the crosshair it just stops clicks

    Ok how does it help to know your game/deer is three mills tall?

    • @crossan008
      @crossan008 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1 yard (height of deer at the shoulder)*1000/3 mils (measured in the scope = approximately 333 yards away
