I like the way that turned out. A sporty hatchback!! Here in America in the early 2000's, you'd see a lot of young people driving that style of car. Inexpensive but sporty. Great looking car!!! 👍👍👍
Another great restoration!, this car and colour reminds me of my first boyfriend when I was 17, he had one of these cars, in a very similar colour, he installed racing seats with rally harnesses, massive wheels and a huge exhaust, it sounded like a tank, but being an impressionable teenage girl it really impressed me lol!.
Fabulous little Nova! I did one several years ago in bright red. Mine does need some new wheels to improve it from the Corgi originals I left on. I would have done two further modifications, which would be to switch the steering wheel from left to right and also painted the front lights. Colour and stripes look superb
Hi Rob,I remember the Novas back in the day, good times lol,it certainly looks the part in this blue and stripes to set it off,the wheels are in the same era as well.awesome video.
Here in the US the Nova was by Chevrolet and my first car was a '63 Nova SS a great little car,. Great video as always thanks for sharing and as always "Howdy from Texas mate 😁"!!
This is my next restoration. I'm lucky enough to have one with the rear glass in the hatch. I had a real one back in the day, a 1.3SR in pale blue, so I am going to recreate it.
Nice work on the Car! I'm guessing the reason that young people buy these cars is because they were probably cheaper then a Porsche or a Nissan GTR or any other good high speed car. I've seen God Pikachu's Videos he does a good job fixing and customizing. And I wish I could find those Realtoys in the United States.
The Nova, Chevette, Forenza, Viva, the mk1 Cavalier all cars with character. The Nova was my first car after passing my test. Although it was meant to be a Viva but the guy sold it just as I got the loan cleared.
Great job with rattle can. Nice little car. I like the letter you got in your unboxing. That would be very tough for me to read. Great job hope you're having a good weekend.
Add a spolier and one of those bonnets that wrapped over the grille and you've got yourself a Max Power cover car! (Yes, we got Max Power here in the States, but it wasn't cheap!)
Funniest thing I saw a boy racer do in a Nova was in 1999, when I was doing security work in an office that was across a main road from a large DIY centre. Every night, boy racers would use the carpark to show off their rally skills (or lack thereof), and would usually get kicked off site at about ten, by a police patrol. One night, as I was walking about, there came, from across the road, an expensive sounding crash. Outside the DIY store were three or four garden sheds. One rally driver had skidded into, and destroyed all of them. Even funnier, the momentum had lifted his Nova up onto the pile of ex-sheds, so he could not drive off. Did his friends help him to get free? They did not. He was still trying to free himself when the police turned up.
I used to work for a recovery company in the early 2000s and we were guaranteed to get 2-3 novas per week come through with either crash damage, needing to be winched out of a ditch/field or because they had broken down due to poorly fitted engine mods or poor maintainance. I recall one that had been kitted out with about 2 grands worth of "max power" add ons like body kit parts and had engine mods, the driver had sideways'd it into a telephone pole, ended up going for scap and got nothing back because he necglected to tell his insurers about all the add ons...naughty naughty!
Nice work on the Vauxhall Nova and great paint job and custom work . Hear in the USA (MA) My uncle had a real life 72 Nova SS it was silver and black . hoping you be working on one of those cars
@@MatchboxGarage , a lot of people do not know this, but not only is the Vauxhall Nova just a badge swap of the First Generation Opel Corsa, but both of them are a badge swap of the Chevrolet (Argentina) Celta, Suzuki Fun, Cheverolet (Argentina) Corsa, Chevrolet (Mexico) Chevy, Buick (China) Sail, Chevrolet (China) Sail, Holden Barina, Opel Vita, and, yes, Vauxhall Corsa. Strangely enough, at least 95% of the parts of these vehicles can be interchangeable with one another. However, the Fifth Generation Chevrolet Nova was related to the Holden Nova, the Fifth Generation Toyota (USA) Corolla, the South African Toyota Tazz, the Geo Prizm, the Chevrolet Prism, the Suzuki Swift, the Japanese Suzuki Cultus, the Suzuki (USA) Aerio Hatchback, the Suzuki (EU) Ignis, the Syuzuki (Pakistan) Celerio, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the Chevrolet (USA) Cruze, the Holden Cruze, the Suzuki (EU) Justy, the Japanese Toyota Corolla Levin and the JapaneseToyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno...seriously, each vehicle is like at least 95% compatible with one another, so if you cannot have what Keiichi Tsuchiya made into an icon, not only in real life, but doubly so with the Initial D franchise, then you can have yourself several other comparable sleeper tuner/drift cars with a few modifications, upgrades, and aftermarket kits and body work. Even the Chevrolet (Argentina) Classic, the Fifth Generation Chevrolet (USA) Malibu/Malibu Classic, Sixth Generation Chevrolet (USA) Malibu/Malibu Classic, and Seventh Generation Chevrolet (USA) Malibu were related to these vehicles. The first car was built upon the GM4200 platform, but the latter one was built upon the GM S platform, which is not only also identical to the Toyota AE platform, but is that platform as well.

Fantastic job Rob owned 2 nova in my time I had one like that in Vauxhall red lol but it looked burgundy the other was green the corsa is not the same car my daughter had one last year sent it to the scrap yard after 3 months no good really 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
ah, the Opel Corsa. I worked at an Opel dealership when the facelifted version of this one was to be replaced by the second generation, which looked like a bonbon on wheels in comparison... Opel-tuning manufacture, Irmscher, offered a multipoint fuel injection system that fired the 1.3 OHC engine up from 60HP to 75HP, but since it was pricey I guess most were used in club racers. I only saw one once in a street car. nice work, even the lowliest die-casts improve with a nice paintjob and some detailing. and those two stripes add 2D6 to the power output I'm sure! :D
We called the "mk2" the "mk1" Vauxhall Corsa, because the first version was called the Nova. It was also available as a 3-box saloon, my mum had one. It had an automatic choke but my dad had to bodge it back to manual or it wouldn't start in the cold.
@@michaelmartin9022 rare are the vehicles where the automatic choke continues to work correctly. XD if it even did to begin with! with my own Ford Taunus Mk1 (or cortina Mk3) the automatic choke doesn't even bother unless I pop the hood and give the thing a nudge... or play with the gas pedal while starting.
It’s funny how he had a story line with the cars he sent you. That EVO is beautiful you should do it some time soon. I don’t know what happened to the wing on the EVO though. Take care!
In Norway they are named corsa. A friend of me har the long version, with a boot/trunk? Was a Orion i think it was, with a monstorus 1.2 liter engine. He drove that car like he stole it,and the gas,and like he kidnaped the passengers.... hahaha. What a great time it was, slow crappy cars driven ås it was a rallycross or formula one car... They seemed to not last long for some reason.... haha
Another great vid and car I've always liked the little underdogs I've always told my friends anything over 80mph Is ignorant you can't legally drive faster but the quickest to that 80mph is what's cool
Back in the 90s here in the USA Ford painted the Mustang Cobra in a shifting color which was called Chameleon Green, I believe it was the 96 Cobra. They called it Chameleon since chameleons shift in color depending on their environment
Pretty kool little build Rob, love the choice of color. That blue goes so good with the black trim. I was wondering where I might get a rotary tool like yours. Thanks for sharing another great video, take care and stay safe.
lovely nova i remember them as a kid in Scotland as for the evo its an Evo 7 from the bonnet vent Evo 8 had no divider in the vent golf :my friend owned that same golf Gt in racing green... fun car
Brings back memories I was on a mechanic course at the main dealership when they were launched and me and a mechanic called Martin did the first pre delivery inspection their in birkenhead so that is my connection they were built in Spain and were supposed to be perfect but the glovebox always needed adjusting 5he best was always the SR loved the colour combination
Another good build but.... Your comment about hot hatches. They were called hot for a reason. I like to think that the Astra GTE, Renault 5 Turbo and XR3i I once owned were a little bit more powerful than hairdryers!
Nova gte was pretty quick and the Sr wasn't bad either I agree that the basic mods were a bit sluggish but they were every where back in the late 80s early 90s then replaced with the Corsa just wasn't the same max power was full of them so cheap and easy to play with
most novas AFAIK ended up going for scrap, either because their owners ended up wrapping them round lamp posts or because they got thrashed to death. you can pick up a nova from scrap (provided it hasnt rusted away) for less than £500, problem is though nearly all of em need new engines and gearboxes for obvious reasons. The ones that were proper looked after though do fetch a hefty price as they are indeed a rare thing to see these days.
Hi Rob, great custom! How did you go about fixing the axles to the chassis? - I have a couple of corgi's that you have inspired me to repaint, but wish to change the wheels out. Have you covered the process before in one of your other vids? Keep up the great work.
Rob it seems like you needy injection of spray cans pretty soon again summer hit man wonderful restoration on a dime as we say in the States real cheap well done
Very nice Nova, i like that body style 😀 Here in Finland saloon models were more common than hatchbacks of Nova (Opel Corsa here) and i think it wasn't so common with boy racers. They have here more Opel Kadetts, Asconas, Ford Escorts, Sierras, VW Golfs, Corollas, Carinas, Mazda 323s, 626s 😁 And that thing young guys driving on the streets without destination trying to get girls in their cars is called here p*ssy rally 😁
Were they low at the back because that was the style, or just because the shocks were shot? I was never a boy racer, but I remember having a small car budget all too well. :)
its called "Opel Corsa-A" overe here in Switzerland. I had one with 17 for a few weeks.. was a "present".. but the car was in very very bad condition. so i had to get rid of it..
Is Vauxhall a division of Chevrolet? The '80s release of the Chevy Nova was a rebranded Toyota ( I think). I worked for a small college at the time, and those cars were fairly common. As I recall, they looked like the little car you restored in this video...nice restoration!
Yes, the 80's chevy nova was a rebadged Toyota and they were total turds. I had an 88. Little 1.6 with an automatic transmission. Had to get a running start to get up the hill to my parents house. Great fuel mileage but not much else. They had a twin cam version which was supposedly better but I never got to drive one.
Love it Twoc means take without owners consent ... ya get me fam !! One of Ex's new boyfriend lent me his little Nova to get home one night n let's just say I Trashed da life out of it I didn't damage it but yeah felt guilty even now. Doh love your builds FULL SEND U.K.

Nice nova /mk1 opel corsa
Nice paint and racing stripes!
That blue is a paint colour I'd expect to see on the pages of Max Power, too. Needs a bigger exhaust tip though... Lol
Back in the 90s here in the USA Ford painted the Mustang Cobra in a shifting color which was called Chameleon Green, I believe it was the 96 Cobra. They called it Chameleon since chameleons shift in color depending on their environment
Nice build and paint job 👌
Pretty kool little build Rob, love the choice of color. That blue goes so good with the black trim. I was wondering where I might get a rotary tool like yours. Thanks for sharing another great video, take care and stay safe.
I picked it up on eBay
@@MatchboxGarage cool thanks.
Very ‘Max Power’. Lovely!
Great look. Awesome job.
Nicely done, sir.
Another nice detailing job too!!
lovely nova
i remember them as a kid in Scotland
as for the evo
its an Evo 7 from the bonnet vent
Evo 8 had no divider in the vent
golf :my friend owned that same golf Gt in racing green... fun car
Beautiful work
I have one, but it is an Opel Corsa, silver, from Corgi and with other Wheels, black interior.
My nova had twin white stripes off set passenger side.
And the Halfords body kit...
And as we all knew back then added an extra 100 bhp.
Every sticker added 5hp!
Great little custom!
Pretty cool car you custom made
It turned out really nice 👍👍😊
Great job matey, I've had loads of novas in the past, great cars.
ASDA = Walmart
TWOC = I think its Taken Without Owners Concent.
Nice custom. Just missing the speakers lol
Brings back memories I was on a mechanic course at the main dealership when they were launched and me and a mechanic called Martin did the first pre delivery inspection their in birkenhead so that is my connection they were built in Spain and were supposed to be perfect but the glovebox always needed adjusting 5he best was always the SR loved the colour combination
nice content
Another good build but.... Your comment about hot hatches. They were called hot for a reason. I like to think that the Astra GTE, Renault 5 Turbo and XR3i I once owned were a little bit more powerful than hairdryers!
Nice Aftermarket Rims too!!...
Seh m8, y did a propa gud job on chavvin up dat nova. Mebs u shud try kittin' out the golf az well wi a propa nicesound system an dat, lyyke.
Thanks again mate😎
Proper Job 👍..... Nice one Rob , those boy racers eh ...... 😁
Hot Hatches were powerful. The Nova GSi was close to a hot hatch.
I was young in the 80s. Dreamt of a Nova 1.3 Sport. Google it. £20k now.
Nice one Rob
Sr nova driving like a joyrider
Speeding to the corner...
It's a sound system banger.
Has it come to this? 😎
Nova gte was pretty quick and the Sr wasn't bad either I agree that the basic mods were a bit sluggish but they were every where back in the late 80s early 90s then replaced with the Corsa just wasn't the same max power was full of them so cheap and easy to play with
fantastic, the real ones sell for stupid money now, i was looking at a 92 GSi barn find bid are up to 4k and still a week to go
most novas AFAIK ended up going for scrap, either because their owners ended up wrapping them round lamp posts or because they got thrashed to death. you can pick up a nova from scrap (provided it hasnt rusted away) for less than £500, problem is though nearly all of em need new engines and gearboxes for obvious reasons. The ones that were proper looked after though do fetch a hefty price as they are indeed a rare thing to see these days.
Cool Vauxhall nova
Well done
Fancy doing a full sized one 😂
Awsome, where did you get the wheels from?
cool custom
Looks proper wikid liek
Great job
Hi Rob, great custom! How did you go about fixing the axles to the chassis? - I have a couple of corgi's that you have inspired me to repaint, but wish to change the wheels out. Have you covered the process before in one of your other vids? Keep up the great work.
I drilled through and the axles fit without any fixings
Now there’s a Chevy car!
Chavy
Rob it seems like you needy injection of spray cans pretty soon again summer hit man wonderful restoration on a dime as we say in the States real cheap well done
Cannot wait for summer Tony 😎
Very nice Nova, i like that body style 😀
Here in Finland saloon models were more common than hatchbacks of Nova (Opel Corsa here) and i think it wasn't so common with boy racers.
They have here more Opel Kadetts, Asconas, Ford Escorts, Sierras, VW Golfs, Corollas, Carinas, Mazda 323s, 626s 😁
And that thing young guys driving on the streets without destination trying to get girls in their cars is called here p*ssy rally 😁
Cool car.
Love this bro
Were they low at the back because that was the style, or just because the shocks were shot? I was never a boy racer, but I remember having a small car budget all too well. :)
Probably both mate 😋
its called "Opel Corsa-A" overe here in Switzerland.
Vauxhall is owned by GM, which also owns Chevy
Those weeks remind me of those 8/$1.00 toy cars with zero detail. 😂😂
I have a bunch of match box cars from the 60 70 s are they worth anything?
It's possible, you need to investigate
I have corgi nova in red and has a plastic base but has a rear window. Seems like these silver ones don't have a rear window.
Where can I buy this matchbox bro to make it into a gte
Looks like this is a newer Corgi...
One like the one you just did....
I guess no matter where you lived, everyone wanted to rip and tear with a hatchback. For me it was the Honda Civic.
U have any for sale bro???
👍
Nice
Lindo!
Or some of these are nice enough to put in your collection..
was this known as the chevy nova in the us?
Not sure it was available in the US
Hi , some owners of this car had louder stereo speakers than their motors.
