Johnny's arcs are literally my favorite. In each movie, he learns a new skill; Piano in the first, dancing in the second. And he does it with the support of quirky characters. But the fact he gets out from under his father and then ends up making him proud is really cool. Buuut to be totally honest, his father probably wouldn't have ONLY been doing community service by the time the second movie came around xD; He BROKE OUT OF PRISON, that usually kills ones' chances at getting parole or an easier sentence so uhm... Yeah. And he clearly has an issue with being pressured too much to behave a certain way, and I love that they expanded on that a little with the dance instructor. And then he got to show off his fighting skills he'd no doubt learned from his father, to boot. But literally that scene is my favorite in Sing 2, and Sky Full of Stars is like one of my favorite songs now because of it. God the whole sequence is good, honestly.
Everyone appreciates the actors and their voices. But there is not enough appreciation towards the animators and directors behind the movies. These guys deserve a lot more appreciation than what we give them!! ❤️

Johnny was one of the best singers. My personal favorites are a sky full of stars, and I’m still standing. Fun fact, the actor who is playing this character also did Elton John who who created the song I’m still standing.
Out of the two movies, Johnny and Rosita have the only coherent arcs. Johnny starts off as a pretty passive guy. Torn pretty... obviously between following in his dad's footsteps or doing what he cares about. In the end, his hesitation to choose ends with his dad in prison, and Johnny flubbing part of his role. Later, he gains the confidence to fully sing on stage. In the second, the movie has him gain confidence against an external foe in the form of his dance instructor, instead of having him gain confidence within himself. Ultimately, he stands tall. It's also cool to note that in both movies, his conflicts revolve around him gaining new skills. Piano in the first and dance in the second. It's nice to see him stand tall and grow as a performer.

Well it depends on the judge in some cases. Also it was robbery not armed robbery so the sentence its self probably wasn’t as intense as you think.
