I started to bawl when you guys were talking about riding with your dad. My dad got me into riding at a very young age and taught me about life through racing and I owe him everything. He passed away last August and this really hit hard. Just to have him back one day to go riding I would give my life to do so.

63 years old. First World Vet this year . Rode Thursday and Friday raced Saturday and Sunday. Shocked at the gnarliest track I had ever set tires on. Had a friend running art getting autographs, not my jam. Shocked and wondering, overlooking sand wash from above , Kris was standing next to me. Thanked him for the My St Helen video of does and donts. Super polite and super positive. Walked away 24th of 46 for the overall. Can't wait to do this again.

The conversation topic starting around the 30 minute mark is incredible.
For me the passion came from spending that special quality time with my family, making my Dad proud, doing something that NO other kid in all of my town was able to do made me feel special and most importantly being on the bike FORCED me to shut my brain off and focus solely on that moment. It still is the only escape from the anxiety and demons that constantly flood my brain.
Only part of my brain injury I remember is crying because I didn't know if I could ride again. I didn't care I had to leave college or was gonna loose my soccer scholarship. I cared about being able to get back on a bike. And that motivation to have that other worldly feeling again that moto gives you was the only reason I put effort into my recovery

Having grown up racing in the late 70’s and 80’s, I never imagined the media we would have today revolving around this great sport. Then it was cycle news, MXA and Dirt Bike magazines, with the occasional race on TV, usually as a novelty. It was such a struggle to feed our desire for all things moto. I’m now trapped in a beat body and well past being able to ride anymore, but I still love the sport as a fan. It’s really the only sport I can relate to in any meaningful way (I didn’t play baseball or football). Of all the media currently out there, when it comes to depth, Gypsy Tales is absolutely unmatched. Between this, Whiskey Throttle Show, all of the amazing racing coverage, and every rider (amateur to pro) who straps on a GoPro and shares it to you tube, it truly is amazing to an old broken fart like me👍😂

I stopped riding because of time, kids and my work. Theres not a day I don't miss it. I can still tell what year a memory is from by the bike I had. I was a top 5 intermediate in Canada. Raced in michigan, and a few Canadian supercrosses. It was the best times of my life. Raced vet exp and won a vet championship (legit season of about 24 weekends against ex pros). I love that season but still wish I had I was able to have done 1 season of pro before going to college. If anyone here reads this- if you love riding do what you can to keep doing it. Its my biggest regret stopping. Its like a piece of my soul is missing. Once finances are there I'm getting a bike agin and going riding.
Played high level hockey but MX is the best sport ever.

I'm on the 350 clergy. Lol. I had a 250 and a 450. And the 350 is the best of both worlds. The only thing I'd say about the KTM's is the suspension isn't great. If KTM came out of the box with Yamaha suspension it will would be perfect. Like Keefer says the air fork isn't great. I've switched to spring fork on my 350 and it was a world of difference. And so much more consistent.

15min into the podcast and the idea of their being any talk of a Gypsy vs Pulp narrative is just nonsense. The two shows are so vastly different for their own beautiful reasons. Both shows create incredible content , bring different things to the table and both should be as popular as they are. Keefer is by far my favorite guest on Pulp every time. A perfect example of the need for both shows, is in 15 min on Gypsy I learned something about who Keefer was in his childhood, growing up and becoming the man, husband, father and professional he is today. Jase gives us something to relate to from each guest. Learning about how he took care of his mother with MS as a young kid within 15 min shows how comfortable Jase makes his guest feel. And having a sister in law with MS personally, really gave me a different perspective of Keefer I did not have before. Seeing it first hand, it’s hard to comprehend what Keefer went thru mentally with his mom growing up. Im from NYC, got my first bike from Santa 😉 at 5 years old and MX has had my heart ever since. I am 39 now and the memories of riding with my father on the weekends and finding places to ride still make me smile. Literally didn’t know one other kid that rode back then. My best friend at the time would come over and all he wanted to do was sit on it and wash it and talk about how much he wanted one. One day my friend has a bike! I mean having another kid to ride with at the time was indescribable. I found out later in life that his dad couldn’t afford a bike at that time. So with my father owning his own business and our dads becoming good friends, my dad offered to give him the money to buy his son that bike secretly so no one else knew. When I found out later in life literally not until I was an adult, it didn’t shock me at all. That’s just the type of person he still is today with my son, the rest of his grandchildren along with the rest of the family and close friends. And now that I go riding with my 8 year old son and watching MX grab a hold of his heart its come full circle. I hope now with Justin Cooper and Nick Romano reaching the level they have, shows kids from NYC it’s possible and that there is more than the stick and ball sports out there. Sorry for the novel, as you can see I only have a few people in my life to talk MX with 😂 and these podcast are so good, it only grows my love for the sport and gives me a place to enjoy content and share stories. Jase, amazing episode, no surprise. Keefer, your a bad ass, much respect 🤜🏼🤛🏼.

Ok I like air forks mainly because the ability to adjust the spring rate is something that we can do to test how a bike feels cheaply and not doing something mechanically to the bike. Air can perform star racing shows it. Mountain Bikes do it. I think the part that gets lost is consumer wants it simple, but to get the best out of air is to make it a little more complex and tunable. Pros don't mind a person who wants to find the perfect set up doesn't mind. The TAC SFF from shows was a good idea amazing adjustability and tuneability yes is it a pain to learn yes. But that's the system wp aer cone valves are so we know it works. I would love to try some psf1 a kit forks because if it works for star and Aaron plessinger after some tlc it should work for us right just we have to be ok with the tlc. Got some cone valves that are way better then the 19 aer forks but slightly better then the 22 aer forks wanting to see if a lot of time spent can get it close.

It would be pretty cool to see them allow same displacements - I'd say they are pretty much evenly matched as far as USEABLE HP these days! So I AGREE with you, brother! I honestly believe Stank could get somewhere in top 3 if they let him race a 250cc 2t with a 250cc 4t!

With air forks the front end changes as you moto. That causes inconsistencies that make it hard to be confident. Specially in corners. And when you don't know you think it's you. But once you make the change you realize it's the suspension. Although I have to say in terms of affordability spring fork conversions are not cheap. And that's a con. This is why I feel if KTM goes Yamaha in the suspension department they'll kill it.

Do that and they become horrible to ride. They still have the crank inertia driving them forward and giving them the heavy feel. The answer is to make the power more broad and usable and with more over-rev. But that still doesn't fix the inertia problem.

Keefer is the giant that holds and lifts many! I came across him when I was homeless and dealing with many medical issues and disabilities after military service and divorce - he helped me learn, and hope for a better future with a life filled with dirt bikes. I had just lost my 2016 Yamaha YZ250FX with my Ford F-150 Lariat, home, marriage/family - EVERYTHING!
When God helped me get my life together, and worked hard to get my VA medical retirement, I now enjoy riding and owe alot of my knowledge to Keefer - in fact, I bought my 22 Honda CRF450R-S (2020 Twin Pipe remake) and built it as an RX with XPR because of him, and never been happier with a bike! The Akropovic dual pipe is dope, and the Hinson Racing BTL Slipper Clutch with Momentum Clutch basket mated to an XPR clutch arm and Ride Engineering Clutch cable bracket to an ARC RC-8 Clutch perch is MONEY - all thanks to Mr. Kris Keefer! In fact, most of the bike was built from his reviews except for the Pro Wheels 70R 21/18 wheel-set, but the Dirt Tricks 14/51 sprockets on the rear, AGAIN, was all KEEFER! lmbo 💪 -His reviews on the machune and much needed cooling aftermarket upgrades helped me put together a Trail Tech Radiator fan kit, Red Boyesen Supercooler, Honda Red Moto TBF Performance Radiator Hose kit and Red Moto bilket in-line cooler with Samco Stainless Steel hose clamps, and CV4 Radiator cap! Couldn't have put together the cooling system OR any other part of the bike not mentioned without Keefer's Honda knowledge -and this bike is more fun than any other, even my TM Racing EN300ES 2t!
Only things missing that he suggested is a 24mm offset triple clamp (probably will go Luxon MX for the clamps and adjustable pull rods), FCP Engine mounts, and suspension upgrades...which will probably be an MX Tech National Shock and Blackjack inserts on the Showa forks...but I might save up a few years and get a Technical Touch KYB A-kit set-up since this is what Cole Seely used, and KYB is my favorite suspension out there!
And if anyone read this long and is down and out like I was - addicted to drugs like I was, cause you had nothing else...I'm a living testament that things CAN change if you give it your all! Even if you have debilitating conditions like my TBI and Neuropathy, Post Traumatic (Brain Trauma induced) Type II Narcolepsy, PTSD, Depression and other mental health conditions - FIGHT LIKE HELL!!! GET YOUR LIFE BACK and ride until all depression ceases! Listen to the GOAT - Kris Keefer - and LEARN! 💪

Cairoli won GP motos on a 350, only switched back to a 450 because of the grunt needed from the gate to the first corner. The bike isn't the limit for non pros
