There's one detail missing, and that's Henry Hill telling Jimmy Burke about the tip. Jimmy Burke hated Krugman, he always thought he was suspicious and kept shortchanging him, he probably refused to listen to Krugman until Henry came down and told him about the plan. I understand it's pretty unrelated to the purpose of this episode but the crimes that put Burke away for the remainder of his life was the Boston College point shaving scandal which he did with Henry Hill, and his only official link to Lufthansa was the murder of Richard Eaton. Eaton was tortured, killed and hanged in a meat truck after he skimmed some money of the heist while it was being laundered. The money has never been found.
This was mentioned in the movie Goodfellas. The Mafia ripped off the Lufthansa cargo terminal at JFK Airport in 1978. Marty Krugman was killed, being he hounded Jimmy for his Lufthansa money. All the guys went out and bought cars such as Cadillacs and Lincolns. The cash disappeared by going to swanky restaurants, vacations, cars, clothing, houses, etc. The cash was untraceable.

this robbery occurred in 1978, so security cameras were much less common back at that time. Also, this was not a bank or armored car facility. It was an air cargo warehouse facility that was used to transfer shipments/goods, and items were not held for long periods. it was currency that was being transported transferred from overseas that was spent my US military stationed in Germany, so it wasn't held for a long period. That is why having inside knowledge was needed of when the cash was coming in.
In addition to the Lufthansa heist, Jimmy Burke's crew had already been jacking one or two trucks every day coming out of JFK airport but that wasn't enough for Burke, still needed that one big score which ended up bringing them all down.
