  • Opening up Whitetail's SkateLab and sharing some of my experimentations and notes with you, my dear Whitetail Community of surfskaters and skaters!
This first episode is about the experimentation for a new deck in the Cat Series.
Feel free to skip to the end for the results or skip to the prototype of your liking.
Here are the prototypes in order of appearance:
    Prototype 1 - FeralCat prototype
Prototype 2 - FeralCat Outline, with the same concave as the TigerShark, with more distance between the pockets
Prototype 3 - FeralCat Outline, New Geometry, less distance between the pockets, deeper concave
Prototype 4 - Similar outline but smaller than the FeralCat, super aggressive concave, new geometry, shorter distance between the pockets.
Prototype 5 - Similar outline but smaller than the FeralCat, aggressive new concave, same distance between the pockets
Your input, feedback and comments are always greatly appreciated so let me know what you think, what you'd like me to share or talk about, or just say hi!
DISCLAIMER: I don't intend to become a TH-camr, and I'm uncomfortable under the spotlight, but there's SO MUCH I want to share with you 😃
I decided to get over myself and step out of my comfort zone, but expect raw, simple, and intimate videos.
They are not meant to be perfect (although I'll try my best); they are meant to be useful and valuable for the community.
TH-cam is also a free platform where I can store my thinking process :)

Nerd 🤓! And I say that as a compliment! Thanks for opening the doors to your shaper brain. One little thing thing that might help on the next journal for visual folks like me: the differences of each board that you have in the video description helped me understand after watching, it would be great if they were on screen as you talk about each one. Keep them coming!

@@MarktheLandlockedSurfer excellent point! Thanks for your input Mark. I first started to record this video just for me, as a personal journal to remember which deck is which, it can get confusing even for me 😅
Than I thought, why not share this data with other Whitetailers.
I might make a Part II of this episode, so I’ll keep this in mind.
      Thanks, relevant as always 😊

I hope this comes out soon, take my money! Concave of the sharks, shorter pocket distance, nimble size, oh it's a dream. Amazing work as always Sophie!

@@ssemilla I’m really enthusiastic that these specs are appealing to you as well!
I must confess that I’ve been designing my dream decks, during this trial and error process, and I’m looking forward to have them tested by others, in case we share the same dreams :)
      Thanks for your input!
I might have some questions for you down the line if you don’t mind

@@whitetailskateboards I only have the Cheetah from your collection and it has been my favorite deck, I'm just in love with the shape and the concave. Now, I'm in the hunt for something even more nimble for transitions. One of the criteria I have is a shorter distance between the pockets since it feels like my front foot slides and moves to the front pocket more often. However, that means my stance widens and a bit of comfort is lost. I have been eyeing the Tiger Shark (I might actually just snag it right now haha) but it seems like the size is very similar to the cheetah other than the width of the tail. So I got very excited when I came across this video. I am confident you will be able to craft a shape that everyone will love and separates itself from the big boy sharks. I will definitely be one of the first to line up for that future deck! Sophie, your work just inspires us to skate more as we can all sense the passion you put in each deck you design.

@@ssemillawow I can’t express how I appreciate your detailed feedback and personal experience with your Whitetail, it’s so valuable to me and I’ll keep that in mind for my next designs. I totally get your point about the pockets distance and how the foot slipping up to the pocket might make the stance less comfortable.
You are right that the distance between the pockets are the same on the TigerShark and the Cheetah, but I need to say that specs are like the ingredients in a recipe, although they can seem similar on paper, the feel of the final product can be very different, and that’s often what happens with skateboards. Riding it, just like tasting a meal, is the best way to feel the difference. I just wanted to mention it, I hope it makes sense.
If you ever come by Montreal, I’d be happy to let you try and feel them 😊
      Have you tried the FeralCat?
