Bit late, but anyway - Riff after riff. There was a time when I could play this start to finish in my head . No-one ever come close for sheer groove and talent. I reckon they kept this going for at least 40 mins n at least one occasion and it was never enough. Bands like this simply do not exist now but I count myself lucky to have been there when they did. Not just hours of noodling this was as tight as fuck. Genius live and never failed,, but never matched it in the studio. Unsung heroes and so many now lost.

If they'd rehearsed this for 10 yrs, they couldn't have bettered it. I've been playing it since the record came out and it still thrills. Add to that the fact that Man were great blokes. In 73-74, self + 3 pals were seeing a lot of Man gigs, but were turned away at the door of Keele Uni Summer Ball - 'Students only'. We sat down on a nearby patch of grass to sulk and play cards before heading home. After a couple of minutes, a big old Zephyr pulls up next to us. The windows came down. We knew those faces, and somehow, they recognised ours. A Welsh voice says "A'right boys, how's it going?" We tell our sad tale "That's OK", says Terry, "tonight, you're with us". Back to the door we go where they usher us past the annoyed security bloke. "Our road crew, see?". And they played sublimely....

Love it. Intrigued to know, given the Delia name, were you Norwich based? My home town and saw them every time I could in the early to mid 70s. Guaranteed blast very single time. Norwich was a pretty great place for concerts at that time - had to choose between Traffic, and Canned Heat one evening (the latter won) and saw the Floyd a couple of days later

Deke Leonard and Michael Jones - what a combination. Not forgetting Martin Ace and Terry Williams. Man, in all their different incarnations, were one of the most under-rated bands around.

I was there!!----It had actually been going for about 20 minutes before they started recording.--I saw them many times throughout the 70s and 80s and they always delivered.-- This is the definitive version without a doubt!

Greatly underrated band - live quite extraordinary. Deke told a great story of how they were booked late night in London at a club and there was two people in but as they were booked they played with voice loudly cheering them on. At the conclusion went to thank the guy who had kept them going and it was ... Jimi Hendrix. Whenever anybody asked Deke if he had seen Hendrix play he would say: “No! But Hendrix saw me!’

I used to worry that I'd become famous and be invited onto 'Desert Island Discs', where I would be embarrassed to announce to the Radio 4 audience that my favourite gramophone record was called 'Spunk Rock'. Fortunately, I have remained a nonentity.

This is the result of a band that continually gigged; something that is difficult to replicate these days due to the diminishing number of venues for live music.

One of the most important bands of my teens. Got every album apart from this, sadly in the loft with 500+ albums. Wore my 'Man' tee shirt proudly nearly every day for half of the 70's but only saw them once in '75, Aylesbury I think, but I got to shake Mickeys hand before the bouncer dragged me out. True legends of rock. The best times barr none. RIP Mickey and Deke, thanks for the memories

Time for another comment. There were four bands that defined my concert experience growing up - Wishbone Ash, Mott the Hoople, Quintessence and, the very best was Man. Saw all of them more times than I can remember but Man were always such a blast. This is as close to the live experience as you'll ever get and like most of the great live bands of that time they never really captured their brilliance in the studio. Sadly several now departed but with wonderful music like this they will live as long as anyone who saw them live and beyond

The recording date was 1972-02-13 - "The new four piece supported Hawkwind and Brinsley Schwarz at a charity gig at The Roundhouse on 13 February 1972, recorded and issued as Greasy Truckers Party, a limited edition double album which rapidly became a collectors' item." This band changed my life. I was 14, in a band at school and Man came and played at the school on their way home fr9m a German tour. They played for 2 hours non-stop. My band supported them and that was my mind made up. I knew what I wanted to do and I did it! I’ve played guitar with Roger Waters, Mike Oldfield and many more. I’m 67 now and just off on tour playing The Wall and Dark Side of The Moon.

We all praise the two 'taffs' on the guitars, but the core of this groove lays with the stunning partnership of Mr Ace & Mr Williams. I'd love a take from this toon with just the bass and drums. Whateva, such a stella performance that I'll never ever tire of. Just so fab.

The best version ever. There was no studio version made (to my knowledge) so I wonder what that would of sounded like. I bought the GT party album back in 72-73 for a drop dead £1.30. Sadly I've irritated a few others on another version pluging this one but the first version you hear normally sets the benchmark for others. What puts the cream on the cake for me is the jam which starts @ 7.00 min and rolls for 4 and a half minutes. Nothing tops it.in any other version I've heard.

Tight, and yet loose enough that it feels spontaneous too, and not over-rehearsed.

If I ever become famous, this will definitely be one of my 'Desert Island Discs' (unless you can't say 'Spunk' on Radio 4, in which case I'll go for 'Bananas').

    Just listen to the jam @ 6.57 > 11.18, Bought the LP back in 197? 4 a staggering £1.30.
Read a story for this track that the recording was not switched on for about a minute after they actually started. Dito: Best version ever.
