    Everytime I see your video and you stitch the project I feel like I stitch my project totally wrong. You are awesome! Also, I like the character your stitch pony/horse has. Totally awesome!

    Hello there! I really enjoyed this video. Just one question: what kind of glue/adesive do you use? Thanks and keep going!! Cheers

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you 😊 the glue is a contact adhesive, the one I specifically use is bostik 6092 👍

    Heh Jo. I love your channel and have followed you from the early days. I have a few questions.
    1) what type of glue are you using there?
    2) if it isn’t too much trouble - can you list the weight if the leather at the beginning. I am in the states and we don’t use metric (I wished we did) but ounces seem universal.
    Thank you again

    • @JHLeather

      Hiya, thank you for your support for the last 3 yrs 😁
      1) the glue I use is a contact adhesive called bostik 6092 it's used a lot in the shoe industry and is the best adhesive I've ever used.
      2) All the leather I purchase is in mm and I have no idea what they are in oz. I did do a quick Google and this website is very handy.... montanaleather.com/leather-thickness-and-conversion-chart/
      Hope that helps 🙂
      Jo

      I always thought that the UK used ounces more than the US - but I am likely mistaken. Thank you for the chart. I knew there were conversions. But I will use it more now.

    Don’t need that in the USA but it could just adorn a regular wallet.

    I noticed you treated the edges of the main body before stitching and at the final steps you sanded the edges again, to even the edges of lining to body. My question is, could one skip the first edge work, only make the crease and stitch marks leaving the main body edge work until lining has been attached?

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Amy, the glue that I use to stick the parts together is a contact adhesive which if it gets onto the edges of the leather can be absorbed into the edges and will make a waterproof barrier that repels the stain. Also depending on what other items you want to make it can be difficult to do the staining afterwards, like around a buckle turn or on some padded leather.
      I was taught edge, stain, crease then stitch mark so it's also a bit of a habitual process. This is just the way that I do things, if you find it easier to do things in a different order that's fine 👍

    Hi just come across your channel and loving your work. Just putting some equipment together to start leather crafting myself. Just wondered if you new where I could get hold of a saddlers pony which I believe is longer and broader than the cheap small ebay ones. Tandy don't seem to sell them and I cant see anything on the Abbey website. Any thoughts on this, would be appreciated. Plan to sit and work through all your films. Cheers Julian

      Hi Julian, glad to hear my videos are helping you. Unfortunately Tandy was the only place I knew that did the stitching pony, I think Cumbria school of saddlery still do some tools and they did make some shorter stitching clams which could work for you.

      @@JHLeather Can see one on your channel, but would be good to get the low down and your opinion on thread makes and sizing for this style of leather work if you get a chance. Thanks Julian

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@julianwilliams4750 the ones I have are saddlers clams and they come from Abbey England. I thought you were talking about the little ones that you can sit on in a normal chair.
      The threads depend on what size you are stitching, as a guide I use either 4/18 linen thread or tkt8 corespun polyester or 332 lin cabel linen threads for stitching in 7 stitches per inch.
      Thanks
      Jo
