I bought a R. E. Classic two months ago, and I don't get tired of riding it. It has a special and unique way to communicate with the driver in sound, in cornering, in his simplicity , in easiness of riding, and most of all that fenomenal torque that impulses us as a enormous bungee jumping cord. Perfect for a lazy riding and exploring places that you would never think could exist near you. But you can also easily cover each day more than 500miles non stop in A roads. Thank you India for producing one of the best bikes I’ve ever owned, and that’s out of 20! I know it isn’t built for speed, but neither am I. We are both built for comfort and reliability!
Thanks for this. Glad you liked it. I might go and test ride this and the interceptor soon. You put a lot of interesting research into this including the growth of RE globally. I live in Thailand and they are doing good things here too. When Thai people are interested in Indian products they must be good!
Hi Colin, I tell you what mate, riding one of these in Thailand would be a amazing experience. Both bikes are good bit the 500 is something like no other. Perfect coastal explorer.
The reason they are great because it was owned by British Indian government 1908 and military's. Royal Enfield sells 500000 bikes a year in India. It is only company on such a large population of 1.35 billion people
I'm 67 . From 1968 I owned 17 bikes and rode the best uncountable bikes ( from friends and test rides) . The best sensations were from Honda CS 50, Yamaha XT 350, BMW R 100 RS, BMW R 80 GS, Moto Guzzi V7 Yamaha Fj 1200. Now I have a Royal Enfield Classic 500 and I wouldn't change it for an Interceptor 650 either. My heart says that the feel will not be qualitatively superior. I have no doubts that the Classic 500 belongs to that honorific group of classic bikes.
Great review, I've been hanging my nose over one for a while, this review convinced me to get on with it so I ordered mine today, I just have to find room in my garage as i have a Himalayan, Vstrom 1000 & 35 year old VF1000, the Himalayan is great for exploring the countryside on - you need to try one. Take care.
Great review been looking at the interceptor but seen this in the local dealer and just like the back to basics honesty about it . I’ve had Harley’s , Haybusas and my last bike was an Indian Chief vintage . I don’t need the speed or showboat anymore . Thanks Gordon
If you want a bullet 500, get it soon! I was very lucky to get one of the last in the US. There are several Trials still in stores, but Standards and Classics are getting difficult to find. I just tipped 2K miles on my Standard - it's very engaging to ride.
Yes, I had my heart set on a Classic 500 in Squadron Blue but I missed the boat by about 3 weeks and now all the other 500s are in very short supply in the UK too. There are still Trials Bullets to be had new but they will dry up soon and there won't be any more as all 500 model production is stopping 'cos there is a new Bullet model coming next year...
I was working on one of these in our local museum last Saturday. Same colour - chrome tank and green frame. 350cc. Tax disc said last on the road in 1957.
I've had mind for just over a year now and I love it. the problem that some people make when they try them is they try to compare it to a modern bike. Have ridden older bikes and new ones. It for sure does not handle like a modern bike with a modern engine. If there vibration? Yes. This bike is not meant for high speeds. I can take my BMW R1150RT to 100 and its very smooth. My Classic 500 it vibrates, which is normal when you have a single piston bobbing up and down. At the heart of is in reality the Classic 500 is a design from the 50s. Sure it has been updated, but essentially it still is. When I want speed I take out my BMW, Ducati or Yamaha SCR950. By the Royal Enfield Classic 500 is the one I actually ride the most. Not sure if everyone will understand this, some people will. If your a petrol head. You can bond with a vehicle, which you know isn't the best or fastest. If you don't have much experience riding older bikes, then i can understand why perhaps you might now like it. But you can't have the same expectations as you would with a modern bike. The bike also grew on me.
Ive seen tons of reviews, and bought a Classic Chrome a month ago, and this review is the best - really conveys the feeling of riding a classic - meditation on two wheels !
Thanks D, we met on the scrambler night and down cafe 53. I hope you and R and your travels are going well. Last time I checked you were in Norway I think. Looking forward to seeing you again sometime. Back on topic. Yes you would like this one. A great plodder, highly recormend it. Opposite to the scrambler lol. Cheers E. R
agree on the speed btw. Happy driving it at 80 - 100. No need to go any faster. it's just ok cruising around on it. (also have a super sport, that's just the other way round,. hard work driving it slow.
I wish they would bring the 350 back to the states. A lot of riders have their larger bikes for touring already and they want a lighter smaller displacement bike for around town and country road cruising.
Great work ER. I’m one of those riders that was interested in an interceptor, but bought a 500 classic chrome a few weeks ago. Going through the rather tedious ‘phase one’ of running in at the moment. Not had the opportunity to make a vid for a while but the next one will feature the classic.
I don't like vibes either. There is only so much motorway you would want to do with this one, but it's so much fun everywhere else. Every journey is a pleasure on it.
Great Video. I love all the Royal Enfield range and have 3 myself. As you say it is very difficult to settle on one model and at that price you can spoil yourself, without too much guilt. Keep up the good work!
Those problems with kick starting were not your fault! At 450 miles the bike ended up in my hands: it wouldn't start easily simply because of the original Bosch plug, which looked terrible - it was patchy and sooty and was obviously not working properly. With NGK BPR-6ES it usually starts first kick, or rather a gentle push on the lever, hot or cold...
I have a fantastic 2019 Interceptor. I went to a RE dealer yesterday and discussed with him what it would cost to turn it into a Scrambler. To my surprise, he has the same 500 as in your test. Completely new from 2020. And it itches me! The same considerations you have. So this is going to be a tricky one for me. Convert or exchange Interceptor on the Bullet . Many thanks for your video!!!! I'll let you know what it's going to be.
@@exeterrider You are great, Exeter Rider! Because you involve feelings and logic together. And that's tough. Kind regards Kobus the Netherlands 🇳🇱🍺🌷 Subscribed 👍
Yes your right I think. It's not until us youngens try these bikes that you realise how good they are! I mean just look at the view count....If this was a BMW R Nine T or something it would be well into 4 figures on the view count and this bike deserves to do better I think but that is the good thing with people like me making people aware of these bikes.....
You are spot on, go to any motorcycle meeting and what do you see? Guys in later stages of life riding machines usually far to big for them, take the amount of adventure machines that end up looking like low riders, why? Because buyers are making bad decisions.
@@johnrocker2986 I don't get the adventure bike thing especially when they're mainly ridden on the road. I like to flat foot. Apparently Honda sell more of the CB500X than the CB500F (according to the dealer) . I'm not short (5 foot 11 inches) . I couldn't flat foot on the CB500X. I didn't feel as confident on the CB500X as I am on lower bikes. As you point out, they then get lowered . I just don't get it !
enjoyed your film as always, love the interceptor and 500 classic, would buy either one as a second bike if funds allowed, great prices and reliability seems to good in relation, not sure about dealerships could vary in standards of quality for service and after sales reliability , cheers again
Hi Andy. Yes I would like one as a second bike. Reliability wise they are really good from my research as well as the intercepter. Thanks for watching 👍
I did trials in the days of Sammy Miller just as the 500 AJS was being replaced by the Spanish Montesa and Bultaco. This is nothing like even an old trials bike. Anything over 190lbs is a silly weight just for starters forgetting suspension travel and ground clearance. This is a reminiscence bike
Exeter rider, good review.. I liked the video and you made me like the bike... Im wondering if I should buy this bike or go for a continental gt 650 instead?
Depends what you need to use the bike for tbh, if it's just riding to work and need to carry stuff and general commuting then the forza is the one. The GT is good at that too. Thanks for watching the video.
It'll be my first bike.. For the use, it ll be just for some rides during weekends.. Sunny days.. I'm not going to use it everyday and not for long rides.. Here, The price difference between the classic and gt is about 2500 euros..
The main issue I had with the GT is the seat. It's not very comfortable. The classic is something different and like no other bike I've ridden. They both offer different things but my gut feeling for you is to go for the classic. It's great fun and comfortable👍😊
Great review as always, sadly they have now stopped building these but there might be one or two new stock that haven't been scooped up yet, best option is probably a recent pre owned example. As soon as Watsonian did the first trials version with the early Electras I was sold on the look of this bike and Im still torn between the Electra pre unit and this factory version with the UCE. I had a 250 crusader sport with a race seat when I was 17 back in 1980, and I had the same experience of people stopping me even then to talk about the Enfield, even got stopped by Kent Police Trafpol for a chat one day ! they just wanted to admire the bike ..... thankfully :)
Brilliant mate. Yes they are amazing bike's and I'm so glad I tried one. The new bikers coming in now will never understand how good they were, and what experiences you could get on them.
I'm really tempted by this bike but you mentioned in the vid it wouldn't be suitable for much motorway riding, is there a bike very similar to what the Trials offers which would also do motorways really well? Thanks!
It's a beautiful bike and I certainly wouldn't mind having one, but I'd find it tough to choose over the Himalayan, especially since it cost more. I should just buy both. I wish! LOL
Ha! ,I feel your pain!!! I still haven't tried the Himilayen yet but it is on the list to do. You have good taste in bikes. Look after yourself in these time's and keep watching and looking out for the Himilayen on my channel.
Yes they are very much alike however the Royal Enfield does feel more substantial with it's stocky looks and and the feel of the Royal Enfield is alot more nostalgic and enchanting however the Benelli 400 lacks the vibes that the Royal in Enfield has. If I were to buy one of them it really is a tough decision and one that changes everyday which one I would go for. But there is certainly something about the Royal Enfield classic 500 Brand that has really stuck with me. But the Benelli at £3700 is a incredible price for this type of bike.
5:26 Just got my hands on a Trials Replica 500 and it's surprisingly smooth. Even in 2024 it's still holding its own I'd say. Got a Ltd Edition Shotgun 650 as well and even then am drawn to this particular one. However, can understand why they just didn't sell in large numbers in India.
Very surprised this bike is cancelled after 1 year of its launch. The parallel twins Royal Enfield came out with have near fully taken over what they are making going forward.
Yes, they have a 350 version coming out to replace it but it's all to do with euro regs to my knowledge. Blimming shame because the low torque on these bikes is fantastic.
The Trials model was dropped because of poor sales after a year, and now ALL the 500s are going out of production as sales of them have dropped since the 650s were introduced. 350 production will continue but for Indian market only.
@@darklordofbarnet I saw another comment yesterday saying the 411cc in the Hemilain is now the oldest engine Royal Enfield has in production. Never would have thought this would be.
I didn't feel like it would be a problem for taller riders to ride Barry. The tank is out the way and it's very comfortable. I reckon you would be fine.
Yea they are but in some states dealerships are spread few and far between. Go onto your RE website and run a store search. They are good fun. Go for it and buy one, we're only here once 😉👍
@@exeterrider thanks ! Not a deal breaker either way. Me and my dad will be ordering matching ones next week :-) thanks for the great videos. Been very helpful in helping us decide !
The lugs on the frame for pillion footrests are deleted on this model because of the high rise silencer so changing parts to carry a passenger is out of the question for the Trials Bullet - no problem with any of the Classic 500 models though.
I like the Trials but, if I was going to buy a Bullet type of bike, I'd go for the 500 Classic. The classic appears to have the option of pillion passenger or the luggage rack, unlike the actual Bullet which has a double seat. I think you can swap them about at will, although a spanner might be necessary. But, with the Classic I'd change out the hideous exhaust. You can buy an ' after market ' one very cheaply, and they sound fantastic. Next time at the RE showroom try out the Himalayan. Very comfortable to ride and very comfortable suspension. I should know I bought one. Was going to buy the Interceptor, but loved the ' go anywhere ' off road/on road of the Himalayan. I've got a Honda NC750X as well so wanted something completely different.
Hi geoff, what is your view on the Himalayan as an every day bike in terms of rider comfort, mid range torque, top end performance etc. Quite taken with the looks of them and seem excellent value for money. Cheers.
@@jonathandeeley6276 As an everyday bike they're pretty good, providing you don't go on motorways or fast (70mph) duel carriageways too much. They're happy up to 60/65mph, after that they're out of their comfort zone. I find mine comfortable, and on a ride from Rochdale to South Bucks ( no motorways ) once, and it was fine ( only made one stop ) The suspension makes for a very smooth ride and it seems to iron out any potholes. Also, I get around 95mpg, which is not to be sniffed at. So they're cheap to buy and to run. I haven't taken mine to its top speed, but I've heard from other owners they're all done at 80 - 85mph. You, certainly, have to plan ahead with overtaking, but they're pretty good at taking bends, much better than you'd think they would be with the off road, skinny wheels and 60/40 tyres. Have a look at Nathanthepostaman, he knows an awful lot about them.
Hi mate, hope all good with you. Good video as usual and the bike seems a cracking bit of kit. How would you rate the performance against the 300R in terms of torque and top end capability, is it a similar match, not as good or better? Thinking of p/exing mine as there is a recall on the gearbox and don't fancy having it stripped down into a 1000 pieces being such a new bike. Thinking either a new 300R or perhaps one the 500 Enfield range, any thoughts. All the best. Cheers.
Hello mate, thanks, yes I heard about the recall. Did you sell the monkey in the end? Totally different than the 300. Loads more torque and it was a nice ride. I think anyone would enjoy the ride. Its cheap to buy too. Can't call it mate but worth trying one. It really is utterly different. I tried a 300 forza a few weeks back and thought it may me for you but infact it wasn't what I thought it would be like. Video going up sometime. Cheers👍
Yes, got rid of the Monkey, cheapest loss was to part-ex it for something else so bought an SH125I Twist and Go Sooter, very pleased with it, tops out at 70mph, comfortable and all the latest technology, can't see the point of keyless ignition on it though, waste of time! Did some research last night on RE dealers around in my area and there's only one, poor reviews so have decided to go for another 300R, 2019 model that isn't subject to the recall. Pick up next week, dealer gave me a good p/ex figure and threw in heated grips and a free 1st service. Happy days. Look forward to your next video, all the best matey. Cheers.
Did you do a main road speed over 60 or 70 after all it is a 500 cc it should manage it no problem but you only seemed to potter around at slow speeds. I was a bit disappointed to be honest.
The part where I opened it up on the straight road I was at 65. You wont get much more out of this one. So yes faster road stuff was shown in this video. It's not a bike that will go much over 70.
Very interesting bike, may pop along and take a look. Bit confused though, you said no fuel gauge, and you put it as a con. But what is that gauge under the speedo, with the fuel pump on it, isn't that a fuel gauge???? Thanks for all you videos. I have Nc750x DCT too, but mines the fast blue lol.
No it's just a fuel warning light and not a gauge. I hope I haven't got that wrong! Blue is OK but I've tried both colours and the red has a better wax covering so the air passes over it better. Which gains another 73mph so I'm told.
I own a 10 year old 500 EFi trials which has the same fuel warning light. It flickers as the tank gets low & then stays on when you are down to half a gallon or so, which is 30-40 miles of riding, plenty of time to find fuel. It's very simple & convenient. As for colours, mine is all silver, which the God of motorcycles told me in a vision is worth more than a herd of galloping horses!
Exeter rider Hi there, great video. Where is the dealer who supplied your motorcycle? I would love one . I'm turning 70 in September . I live in Torquay Devon and we don't have any of these kinds of bikes around here. also would this dealer deliver to your door? if youre in Exeter is the dealer close to you there? thanks
Hi Brian. Your just down the road. The dealer is cms in Exeter. I'd your free I'll meet up for a coffee and go there too have a look. They are in Pinhoe Exeter and this very bike is for sale! Get in there and get one, or will be the best thing you have done in years. Great bikes and nice to have in the garage. Go for it! If you do want to meet up mail me on exeterrider@hotmail.com 👍🍻
Well I reckon they will be on it. It's getting a bit messy so that to be honest. Euro 6 is already causing a stir with 4 wheels but not filtered down..... Yet! Most manufacters are keeping up so far. One day there could be a premium for having a euro, 4 bike certinly on the spats bike Market.
India is going to skip bs5 and go straight to bs6 norms , as we were late to establish bs4 it arrived just a few years ago . I have good hopes for bs6 ( euro 6 ) but it may be problematic with RE classic
@@michaelevans1658 i think in India RE won't have to comply to euro 6 , as long as bs4(euro 4) is legal they will not compromise on the bike , not sure about the export varient they might be euro 6 complient.
Royal Enfield originally used to make guns for British Army , later moved to motorcycles , a phrase that you find associated with these bikes is " made like a gun, goes like a bullet", maybe that's where the name comes from, just a guess.
Love the video. You've helped make a decision for me. I'm currently on a Mongrel but this puppy seems perfect all-rounder out here in rural Bristol. How would it be for riding 3 hours or more on UK roads? Kick Start! haha Brilliant.
I have a good friend in Bristol. Riding for 3 hours on this bike would be fantastic if your not in a rush. The most comfortable bike I've ever ridden I think. Seats great and so is the peg position. You will be fine on it mate 👍🍻
@@exeterrider Thankyou! I am not a speed person - all about enjoying the ride and getting to nice places. I would stick at 40-50Mph through the hills (our zone is generally 30/40) if drivers didn't get abusive.

It's hardly a trials bike or a scrambler. Stand on the pegs and you'll be straddling the tank with your hands prctically in your trouser pockets! The only off-roading you're going to do on that is when you drive into a garage forecourt to get petrol..
The Redditch ‘works’ trials and scrambles bikes used a number of ‘trick’ parts to alter the steering geometry, weight of wheels, engine etc and had a high level exhaust. This new RE Trials/scrambler is just a standard ‘500 classic’ model in ‘pretty’ clothes.
A petrol gauge is absent,This day and age.I think these bikes should not be allowed to enter a modern country with out such a basic component .Its penny pinching by the Share holders of the company.Ok the original may have none i dont know.I do know its 2020

If you don't have much experience riding older bikes, then i can understand why perhaps you might now like it. But you can't have the same expectations as you would with a modern bike. The bike also grew on me.
Exactly Keith. My thoughts totally. The 500 is fantastic and like a old friend that everyone likes. I'd like to have one in the garage.
Great review which reflects exactly my riding impressions of this skilfully styled bike. Thanks for that.
Thanks Stefan. 👍🍻
Looks the business. I too have a soft spot for RE. Great video review.
Yea I do now too after riding it. It's like no other bike. Very unique. Thanks for watching it 👍
Kick start. Luxury ! My dad had a bike that he had to run and bump start . ( In the 50s )
I a molly coddled electric start kind of guy :)
Me too!
Ive seen tons of reviews, and bought a Classic Chrome a month ago, and this review is the best - really conveys the feeling of riding a classic - meditation on two wheels !
Good way of putting it. Your right, there is nothing else like riding one of these bikes

Another great review and a beautiful looking bike.
Thanks Pete I appreciate your views on my videos👍🍻
Good review. I am seriously looking at a 500 after watching you ride the bike.
Yes, as much as I like the 500 classic I would still need something to have a blast on I think.
Thank you very much for your honest feedback, I was very happy, you don't experience it that often ...
My pleasure Stefan🍻👍
I wish they would bring the 350 back to the states. A lot of riders have their larger bikes for touring already and they want a lighter smaller displacement bike for around town and country road cruising.
Great work ER. I’m one of those riders that was interested in an interceptor, but bought a 500 classic chrome a few weeks ago. Going through the rather tedious ‘phase one’ of running in at the moment. Not had the opportunity to make a vid for a while but the next one will feature the classic.
Wow that great saddle. We should meet sometime. I'd love to see your enfeild. Was yours from cms? Also I take it you still have the big RS?
Yes it would be good to meet up. Let me get it run in first. I bought it from North Cornwall Motorcycles in Bude.
Yes still got the RS 👍🏼
You chose that over an Interceptor, my god.
Yep, perfect second bike as far as I’m concerned.
@@stevepalmer5670 each to there own and they offer something the intercepter dosent. They are both good rides 👍
I quite like the look, not sure I'd want a big single. Some people love the "vibes" , I'm not one of them.
I would prefer the Interceptor.
3! Sounds a dream garage. Yes they are fantastic mate, very refreshing in todays market👍
Pretend it’s a diesel and you get the “acceleration”.
That is a good mindset for riding that bike.
Tough one but if you're not in a rush when riding and mainly do steady riding then I'd go bullet. Thanks

You are great, Exeter Rider! Because you involve feelings and logic together. And that's tough. Kind regards Kobus the Netherlands 🇳🇱🍺🌷

Thanks ⭐
there is a `procedure` for kickstarting, once you get to know it you use it most of the time, it just feels right
Yeap, I think I'll stick with the electric start lol!
Motorcycling now going full circle.
Pick mine up in 2 weeks. 👍

Im wanting one for sure, great video!
Thanks. They are awesome bikes. I have some extra footage coming up of this ride at 1PM GMT today.

enjoyed your film as always, love the interceptor and 500 classic, would buy either one as a second bike if funds allowed, great prices and reliability seems to good in relation, not sure about dealerships could vary in standards of quality for service and after sales reliability , cheers again
Hi Andy. Yes I would like one as a second bike. Reliability wise they are really good from my research as well as the intercepter. Thanks for watching 👍
Reliability is like turtle life
I did trials in the days of Sammy Miller just as the 500 AJS was being replaced by the Spanish Montesa and Bultaco.
This is nothing like even an old trials bike.
Anything over 190lbs is a silly weight just for starters forgetting suspension travel and ground clearance.
This is a reminiscence bike
Yea I can't see anyone wanting to do trials with it myself.
Thankyou for your kind words by the way.
Now I'm fully convinced.. Tomorrow I m going to order one.. Thanks for answers
Thanks!
Hi, the meteor 350 or thunderbird coming out early next year in the UK could be worth a look at. 👍
Look after yourself in these time's and keep watching and looking out for the Himilayen on my channel.
exeter rider Will do! Can’t wait for your review on that one! Keep safe!
How do you compare this bike to the Benelli Imperiale 400? They do seem to be similar in looks and riding.
Thatts great. You will love it....Its what motorbiking is all about.
I want one of these so bad! Are these good for first time riders? Also, I can’t find them anyone in Los Angeles! Great video mate! Cheers
Thankyou, yes they are great for new riders as long as you don't want speed then it's a good choice.
I love the look and character of this bike but unfortunately at 6’3” feel it would be to small.
I didn't feel like it would be a problem for taller riders to ride Barry. The tank is out the way and it's very comfortable. I reckon you would be fine.
I,m 6ft 4. It could do with stiffer seat springs but it's ok.

Yea they are but in some states dealerships are spread few and far between. Go onto your RE website and run a store search. They are good fun. Go for it and buy one, we're only here once 😉👍
howtheheliru this particular model (the Trials) is not, but the regular Bullet and Classic 500 are.
I cant bring myself to totally trust a neutral light I always rock it first before starting just to be sure....
Ahh fair enough. Benelli 400 next Friday. You seem that one? Much like the 500.
Can the exhaust be changed / 2nd seat added to carry pillion passengers ?
No I don't think so, but yes I'm sure someone who knew how could👍🍻
@@exeterrider thanks !
Yeap makes sense 👍🍻
I love lazy riding . Warm sunny days camping on my army green re .
Yeap is the best! Not that I've ever done it but I can imagine it! 👍
Hi Geoff. Yes now I've tried the classic I am more intrested in the rest of the RE bikes. Yes the himilayan would be a good winter bike to try 👍
P. S I also would need the pillion option.
Great, thanks Geoff, very informative.
Makes sense that actually 👍
Royal Endfield have now stopped production of the bullet after the longest production run of any motorcycle in the world. 83 years
Yeap, saving grace is there will be a 350 layer in the year, so not all is lost 👍🍻

Pretty little machine especially the red ,great for a sunday afternoon bimble. Wonder how R.E. will fare with EURO 5 emissions.

Wonder why they called it the bullet? Even when it was designed it was never sports performance. But definitely a classic
Royal Enfield originally used to make guns for British Army , later moved to motorcycles , a phrase that you find associated with these bikes is " made like a gun, goes like a bullet", maybe that's where the name comes from, just a guess.
