How Excess Nitrogen Creates Yield Drag | John Kempf and Advancing Eco Agriculture

  • We automatically associate nitrogen and potassium applications with yield increases. But what if that is not true?
    Join AEA Founder John Kempf as he describes how nitrogen mismanagement increases a plant's requirements for water and photosynthetic energy, creating a yield drag effect. Excessive nitrogen increases a plant's water requirements by upwards of 30% and can cost as much as 20% of total photosynthetic synthetic energy. It is also important to know that only 40% of commercially applied nitrogen is actually absorbed by the crop. A majority is bleached or bound up in the soil.
    John will also describe how to select the best type of nitrogen application and how to manage nitrogen additives to increase hydrogen efficiency from 40% to greater than 90%.

    Thank you for this. There are SOOO many people who still believe that bacteria provide ammonium to plants, and so that it's just great to have ammonium nitrogen in any garden, in the form of pellets or liquid fertilizers. I'm not a farmer, I just take care and supervise planting at my community garden (veggies, fruit trees, and ornamental plants). But I document myself a lot. And on youtube channels right now, people are still 20 years behind, believing that you need to put minerals on your plants to make them grow fast and healthy... And then the same people complain about pests and high water requirements. They don't know these four simple things : 1) plants mainly absorb organic nitrogen like you said 2) plants require extra water to use nitrates and extra energy for ammonium 3) if you add mineral nitrogen to your plants, you'll prevent them from forming mycorrhizae and make the whole situation worse and 4) plants exchange excess nutrients through mycorrhizae and grow faster thanks to that. And the issue here is that when I tell people that, they don't believe me. Coz it's not in ANY gardening book or in ANY gardening magazine. It's on your channel, it's in Christine Jones conferences, it's in a few farming channels, often american, australian or french, but that's it. This knowledge NEEDS to be spread. The old NPK mineral model needs to die...

      Without motivation, farmers will never give up mineral fertilizers and pesticides. In addition, buyers of products do not understand their quality at all. All this will take decades, if not a hundred. And then it will be too late for humanity.

      @@m.j.debruin3041 I don't want to think that human laziness, stupidity and greed will lead our civilization to collapse. But while we are confidently moving towards the destruction of life or intelligent life. Things are really bad for me in Russia. People absolutely do not know how to think or be critical of themselves and others. For several years I have been trying to convey the ideas of regenerative farming, but no one needs or is interested in this.
      People are not interested in real life, nature. They are not even interested in what is happening in the neighboring country ... complete indifference and the triumph of selfishness.

      @@user-or2ln8ux1g you're right about that, in the Netherlands it's the same and in the States it's even worse. From government and big business, we get only propaganda, most people still listen to mainstream media.

      @user-or2ln8ux1g 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@m.j.debruin3041 I don't think it's about government or corporations. The point is in the human psyche itself, in thinking. Humans lack the intelligence to understand the complex relationships of nature. Here it is impossible to offer a nutrition scheme or technology as in classical farming.
      People are too stupid. And products grown on mineral fertilizers and pesticides make them even dumber and more passive. This applies to absolutely everyone, from a homeless tramp to the president himself. And this is scary. For our life is in the hands of people who do not have sufficient intelligence and knowledge.

    During the 2012 drought, and a few other dry years, we never lost more than 2% of average yield for this very reason. I could stand on my head whistling Dixie with 10” of rain per year and do great.

    I have noticed soybeans with more vines and leaves at harvest not being as good as the beans encountered before and after those spots. I am planting into cover crop mix of 8lb annuzl rye 20 lb cereal rye znd 4 lb of hairy vetch. I am planting green with everything around flowering stages. Do you think I could be hurting myself with too much nitrogen from the vetch, even though it is not a synthetic form?

    35:19 I would like to contribute to this information. The work “Use of Radioisotopes to Produce High Yielding Crops in Order to Increase Agricultural Production", which was published on the MDPI website on February 14, 2022, provides data that during the experiment with the use of radioisotopes it was found that out of 100% of the incoming nutrient applied to the soil the plant absorbed only 10% of substances by the roots. And out of 100% of the nutrients introduced by foliar application, up to 90% was absorbed by the plant.

    The arbuscules of mycorrhizal fungi last 3-7 days before the plant absorb it, as I understand it. I've been wondering what nutrients the fungi are transferring with that process? The objection that fungi can only transfer small molecules that can pass through a membrane might need to be reconsidered.

    Hey AEA! Is the Nitrogen in SeaShield in the form of Amino Acids/Proteins? Because that is largely the only Nitrogen my tomato plants will be getting, along with NutraLive Package and The Soil Primer for all the other goodies and gypsum for Calcium. Just wanted to make SeaShield is enough and that the spectrum and primer will be able to provide the rest of the Nitrogen needs.

    • @AdvancingEcoAgriculture
      @AdvancingEcoAgriculture  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! It is in the form of Amino Acids/Proteins but is only present at 2% which may not be enough to grow tomatoes. Please consider adding chicken litter or compost to the soil.

      @matthewkheyfets1309 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdvancingEcoAgriculture I have about 1-5in of compost on these pots as well as the soil primer. But it seems like my Nitrogen requirements should be met then. My plan was per gallon of water, 2 oz of nutra live growth, 1oz vitality, 1oz SeaShield, and then maybe 1oz of rejuvenate for soil microbes and do all that in a gallon of water maybe once per week. Each plant would get maybe 1/4 of a gallon of the solution and foliar basically as well at the same time lol

    Nitrogen is more than seventy percent in air, even more than oxygen for some purpose. As evolved species we have not be allowed /programed to utilize that abundance of nitrogen directly. It's for values of other species and mutual dependence needed for sustainability of life.

    How fast will a plant take up amino acids compared to inorganic fertilizer?

    • @kishjohnson9898
      @kishjohnson9898 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a number of factors that go into the speed of plant uptake, including method of application, but the main takeaway would be more around how much energy is spent by the crop in utilizing that N source.

    excess nitrogen causes DNA mutations, dark green growth follows mutations around like a curse
    in cannbis you get dark green leaves, bright white veins, but nitrogen is the CTAG part of DNA, mutations are errors in that base coding, get a plant with an excess of nitrates, sugar starved and phosphor in weird levels and you can get real weird things happen to your plants, those are the 3 key things she needs for every cell, every protein. Sugar phosphor and nitrogen
