Knowing the story of the Johnston is what brought me into wanting to play naval games

Really wish it had some hidden armor buff or a heal to represent what the ship did during the war. As for price, we knew WG was going to milk it for what they could, won't be shocked if it vanishes before the end of the weekend to boot.
Yup, they'll take her out of the Premium Shop for 6-12 months to build up that FOMO... sigh.
What they should have done was give her French DD saturation or something like that. Or a permanent -90% debuff to damage from shells from turrets that weigh more than she does :P

Same with the Rhode Island. I mean $200 for a bigger Florida (which I don’t really like) no thank you. Plus, the Ohio and Wisconsin are much better tier X BBs

For this ship you should always use the burst fire, it gives you better dpm than standard
The standard DPM is lower than Fletcher so you will always want to use the burst tbh...
It would be cool if they did have Evans as a captain for the Johnston, but bringing a buff specific to DD's. Maybe something for being outnumbered and on low health having Evans might increase saturation or activate a repair party. The idea being to make it harder to sink even though it's obviously going to happen anyway. It's a thought, but I like the idea of Evans being a special commander for the Johnston.
I think that was my major disappointment with the ship. Some of the other things should (hopefully) get a buff here or there, but not having the right captain for the ship?

If they had Captain Evans included in the game as T4 - T8 aggressive skilled DD commander. It would be cool

It's only 83 dollars.... Yeah about 6 dollars higher than average tier 9 price. Idk if I would say 6 dollars higher is insane
I got a 5 container bundle that I still had dubs for on a whim, got her in one of them, so I'm happy to have gotten her easily.
I do agree that she doesn't live up to her story, and should have been a VERY good jack of all trades DD who is able to knifefight DD with the best of them. They came abit close imo, but she needed abit more going for her, maybe even make her tier X to compensate.
Very sad. I wanted the ship, but it’s only in a $150 Admiral box. Glad I watched to the end to see it’s on the website.
Funny how they don’t tell you that the ship can be bought by itself and therefore no need to buy the admiral’s bundle. Wargaming knows what they are doing.

That is the first thing I thought of, she does not get the actual commander who conned her, and she needs a heal.
I literally just got the Johnston for free from the non premium wings of freedom container you can get for 10 independence tokens. I got it on my 4th container. It's pretty great, because there is no way I was paying $ooo much for it

Yeah I dont really see some advantage over Kidd. Like you have +- same HP and Kidd has 3 heals so you dont need to take SI and can take FB. So than you will have +- same gun HE power in open water fight but also heals in one tier lower DD. Sure you dont get SAP and longer torp range but for me heal is more important. And for T10 gearing is just better in almost everything than this thing. I have also Velos and Black so really dont know why buy Johnston...
Yeah, USS Black had more than enough to tempt me. Johnston? Not so much... SAP and a burst fire gimmick... for an obscene amount of money... Think I'll pass.

Yes, the Johnston is a primarily a gun boat, as most American DDs are. But the torp reload on it is just way too long, even if you build into it. There is no reason for that nerf to the torps. That´s a deal breaker for me to be hoenst. I would get it if they reduced the torp reload to what the Kidd has at least. But 2:45 base reload is just ridiculous.
I purchased 5 premium wings of freedom containers for 5600 doubloons. The Johnston was in the fifth container. WoWs did little to make this ship unique other than stock reload of torps set at 170s, longer range torps at 13.5, and gave the ship SAP. Other than that it is essentially a stock Fletcher with a tier IX economy. It is similar in how WOWs reintroduced the Black. They put most of their effort into marketing hype.
I got the Johnston from the last of the 10 crates I bought for about 12k dubs.
As someone who also plays the Alvaro, Johnstons burst fire is an inverse of Alvaros burst fire. Johnstons burst fire is most effective at medium to short range given her about 7 second burst reload, and floaty shells which makes firing at max range challenging. While the Alvaros Bursts fire works best at medium to long range. given Alvaros bigger shells have flatter ballistics and a longer burst reload time that can make close range engagements more dangerous to the Alvaro.
Now we need a bundle with U.S.S. Abbot DD-629 and U.S.S. Cowpens CVL-25.
The 170 second torp reload is a deal breaker.
You forgot to mention the reload on the burst mode. Reload mods and skills will affect the reload of the burst mode. 1.4 seconds between salvos and 9 second reload without skills and mods. 1.17 seconds between salvos and 7.5 second reload with skills and mods. 1.05 seconds between salvos and 6.8 second reload while spotted with skills and mods if you have fearless brawler.
Art work is done well. The blue camo is great on the blue seas. Too much $ for me though, i have more than 300 ships so another one is not necessary. I appreciate WG providing a great historical ship. My dad was on the USS Hornet with VF-11 close by when Johnston went down. God rest their souls.
Just remember, the hard whale is real for this ship
Sea Lord, Relook at the stats. The burst fire actually has more DPM than normal fire. The HE DPM without burst fire is worse than fletcher cause slower reload. With the burst fire only its about the same DPM which makes it alright for starting fires. The SAP burst hurts a lot more. The speed is also higher than fletcher and with engine boost and flag you go 43 but normal fletcher would only get to 39 knts. Also the normal fletcher torps only have 10.3 km torps. Which is uncomfortablly close. Where as the Johnston is 13km. Other than the slower reload for trops is an upgreade over fletcher is ever single way

Would've been a bit more palatable they included Capt. Evans with the ship and give Evans some kind of buff like a an increase in dispersion to incoming fire.
It is not white but peace time 'Haze Grey'. The solid dark blue was used on Navy ships earlier in the war, I forget what Measure number it was.

I got lucky on a crate and got the Johnston about a week ago
I really like her, but I’m having a hard time making her consistent. That being said, I’m used to kiting/stealth torping with the pan-Asian dds. Can’t quite get the knack of the American dd smoke

I do believe the burst fire is always better dpm....which is bad design, but it seems you always want burst fire on aside from very niche situations. And I really want this and the Rhode Island, but there is no chance with them bundled with all that other stuff you have to pay for. Oh well.
A ship that cost 2x-3x the price of AAA game, gonna be a hard no from me dawg.
Ships should have battle damage as the bismarck cammo or special as the cathedral bismarck

Not sure how to monetize it so it will likely never happen. However, I'd like to see a button like n for the horn, that puts your crew on deck to salute a fallen foe.
Price is currently ridiculous. No way as much as I would love to.
She should've been uptiered to T10 and given the Bourgogne treatment. Give her all sorts of small buffs to guns, consumables and the like. I'm getting really sick of WG throwing SAP and a gimmick like Burst Fire.
I think many would have preferred that instead
she and the sammy B should have damage reduction against 6", 8" and higher guns.
It's just the Fletcher with SAP, no more, no less.

It’s a very simplified description
they did to the johnston what they did to d-day event, they got the name right but the real event or ship doesn't remotely resemble the Real Deal, and for only $100 gee I think I will pass.
Just buy Sherman for coal if you want an American DD with Sap. Sure Sherman a tier 10 but with the current state of tier 9 MM, tier 9 is going to face superships and tier 10 anyway. Johnston bring nothing new to the table for an 80 dollar ship, if at least have a heal then she might be worth it.
Not gonna lie, I think they should have made it a TX and given it the Neustrashimi heal.

Without Kidd's heals it just waste of money. You can get pretty much same result with any other fletcher clones and I think even better with Black.

I personally like Johnston as a destroyer main, but WeeGee should've also gave her saturation mechanics to also make her much harder to kill, as with her historical significance
EDIT: Giving her any kind of heal would void Kidd's existence imo, I played Kidd at lot long before Johnston rolled around

You sure you dont work for WG? 10K per burst fire average huh, you showed us 3, 2k 2.5k and 5k, other CC's have also been showing 5k max per average salvo of burst fire so lets keep it real.
Erm, 3.2k, 2.5k and 5k, add up to 10.7k, which is in the ballpark for 10k for the burst. A burst fire is calculated with all 3 salvos, that's kinda the point. Otherwise, 100%.
As you can see when I ran across the Chung Mu, I did around 5K with just 6 shells connecting. The Johnston has 5 guns. The burst fires 3 salvos back to back. 5X3=15. So as you can see, with under half of the shells from that salvo connecting, I’m already half way to 10K. I just missed the rest of the salvo because he smoked up.
I believe when I used the burst mode on the remaining DDs, they were on very low HP, so they were sunk in the process.

Well, it would be fun to have, but under the hood it is still a Fletcher and the poor Fletch has been so power creeped that it would only be an average ship-even with the gimmicks. Then there is the price. It really is friggen unbelievable what they charge for a pixel boat these days. The price is a total rip-off and the price for the Rhode Island is just embarrassing. I picked up Starfield (computer game) for less than the cost of this one DD. You want a top notch Fletcher then start saving your coal and get the Black. Still the best.
and checked out the price. lol just no not for that much . looks like WG decided to price it so most won't pick it up. they are going the big kill version of pricing vs the constant money version. fools.

Just another Fletch, both targets moving and potentially evading manoeuvres to hard to hit targets. Not worth the coin by any means.
Its so infuriating watching WG just spew crap out over and over doing nothing but relying on FOMO and national pride just to sell us a single boat they made out of pixels that costs more than it costs me to fill up my diesel truck and my whole landscaping trailer with fuel for the week to make a living. Who the hell is paying $100-200 for pixels in a game that probably won't be here in 5 more years.

As much as I like Fletchers and would like to add such a historic ship to my fleet. I Can Not justify the price of this ship.
WG need to take a serious look at their pricing of good if they want to sell stuff in this economy.
I like this game, I can tolerate most of the dumb stuff in this game but WarGaming are stupid and almost as bad as EA.
