Just did this repair on my own Teac PD-D850. It's not necessary to remove the faceplate; one need only unscrew and remove the two backstop blocks at the rear; remove the metal guide and then slide, lift and tilt the changer assembly and slip it towards the rear through the faceplate. You can the flip the changer upside-down without unplugging. Remove only three screws by the turntable motor and loosen the fourth, such that the motor carrier plate can be lifted to clear the shaft of the larger pulley. I used TPU flat belts to replace the old neoprene ones--far cheaper than the $30 that the parts people want for a set of two neoprene replacements. To reassemble, reverse the procedure, concluding with re-installing the rear stop blocks. Repair takes all of 10 minutes--fortunately, my motor drive belt didn't go gooey--it went dry and broke cleanly.
Great video - mine did the same exact noise at startup so I followed your video and found the same 2 "gumby" belts completely shot and replaced them. Front door now operates perfectly, laser diode mode measures .715, the micro switches are confirmed working, all motors appear operational, and all tracks are now lubed. But..., sadly when it powers up with or without any CDs in the tray, it immediately spins the tray just short of a full revolution and then the display changes from 1:1 to "E" on the front lcd and all buttons no longer work other than door and power. I don't have the service manual so unfortunately I am stuck at this point - it's too bad it looks to be a well built unit.
only issue left to solve is it is finicky amd some disks won't play ( like CDRs) but most commmercial disks play fine except for a couple spin bit stay on track 1 without starting or skip to the next disk. time to check the laser and the track fir a minor adjustment.

Thank you for the detailed step-by-step guide on repairing the Teac PD-D850. Your instructions are super helpful!
I did forget to mention that you do need to remove the metal bracket across the tray that's attached to the faceplate. All of 3 screws.

Sounds like the position senor is not reading were the tray is.
@RetroGamingWithHopper worth a shot I'll check it out!
great diagnosis. measured the opto sensor and found a dead short on the diode side instead of 1200 in one direction.

Hi - I liked your video. I have a Teac PD0216 MKII that needs the belts changed. Can you help me?
