I wanna share here this video where a therapist and a filmmaker analyze Non-toxic masculinity through the character of Aragorn. The psychologist says he doesn’t like the term “toxic masculinity”, he prefers “limiting masculinity”. It fits perfectly with this episode. Link: th-cam.com/video/pv_KAnY5XNQ/w-d-xo.html Thank you, Dive for all the work you do. GET REAL is a need in my life now. The topics you guys speak about definitely _need_ to be shout out. I also appreciate the sense of communication “with friends” and familiarity you’ve built through all these conversations. THANK YOU 🙏🏼❤️
I agree! I grew up seeing my older brother treat his wife with such respect and love that it really raised the bar up high for my standards. Especially since he was physically really strong but also found being vulnerable to be a man's biggest strength.
True words. If you KNOW without a doubt you'll be loyal, humble, provider, and face what's required of the wedding oath for her you've got yourself a good foundation!
"start with a handshake" is actually great advice. As a woman, I feel more comfortable if a guy gives me a handshake when we meet for the first time. In my country, it´s also common to greet each other with cheek to cheek greeting. Some men might use it as advantage, but mostly it shows that they were raised good by their parents. But handshake is definitely the best way.
Agreed with the handshakes, with direct friendly and respectful eye contact. I hate when guys are shy and awkward with women because they've never been around them much. I'm from Chile and when we greet people, regardless of gender, we shake hands. Only when we know each other do we kiss once on the cheek. I think this is something that just Chile does, it seems to be different from other Latino countries.
It’s interesting to hear about what people from other cultures feel is the most comfortable way of greeting. Coming from an East Asian country, I feel like non-physical greetings are the most natural and comfortable for me. Unless I’m at a business conference or something of that nature, I won’t default to shaking hands
@@abug- nearly every original member left 24k besides changsun (who wasn't an original member either but he was the only one left + kiyong who was added shortly before the other members left) and now there's another 3 new members added. This convo was great. The respect they have for strong independent women and single moms. Feel so related to Ashley. When you hang with the girls but you also have your group of guy friends. It's a good balance.
hope we can see Corbyn again but on HDIGH next time, since he’s personal friends with AleXa. I’ve been waiting to see AleXa and Corbyn together again since her debut
Around the 33:00 mark, where he talks about his aunties being strong& manly I think in the same way men don't want to feel pressured into being overtly masculine. Women who are considered independent or "strong" don't want to be seen as masculine because they can hold their own. Not sure if I'm voicing this out properly Ps I already listened to it on Spotify
I totally get what you mean. It's this whole "Superwoman/Superman" complex that we have adopted these days. And Hollywood likes to push on us especially on black women. The way I see it is at some point you have no choice but to be that " Superwoman/Superman " especially when you have nobody to count on but yourself & be considered as strong because you managed not to "kill yourself" and equating that with being strong/manly cause men are strong even thou you don't feel like taking up all that burden on yourself but if not you then who will. Hope I'm making sense.

I remember in my head just being like “damn, yeah, that’s not it.” He was also super abusive, no surprise really seeing his behavior and we don’t talk anymore.

when I heard about that the standards towards men and women changes, I feel like my country just stays in place and I'm sick of it. because whenever people try to explain that girls don't need to be this and guys don't need to be that, people will just say 'the heck are you talking about, you have to be like this, if you're different then there's something wrong with you'

Hey, just wanted to say that i had a great time listening to you guys. I’m a female but I’ve always been curious about this particular topic. Nowadays there’s a lot of pressure on males as well as female side. However, the sole difference is that seems like dudes don’t talk that much about it(?). I personally, get very mad when hear words like ‘oh, that guy wears a makeup, colors his hair, wears boots with high heels. Thats so unmanly. He’s definitely a gay.’ Like how do people define that? If you preferences slightly different from the traditional one, it doesn’t mean necessarily that something is wrong with you. And mostly, its not just about appearances, society tell men that they gotta be always strong and powerful. From my perspective, it just showcases someone’s narrow minded vision. Time is changing. And there shouldn’t be boundaries between what’s considered right or wrong. Man is man, no matter what he wears, shows his emotions or not. BTW, Ashley looks so tiny and cute around them🥺couldn’t take my eyes of her. Also, Matthew is that type of guy, that every girl wants to be good friends with. The way he talks and delivers his thoughts on any subject is so wise. Wish i had a male friend like him.
@@villeperkkola nooo, I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I totally support lgbt community and for me it’s okay. However, when people say like that, some of them intend to say it in offensive way, since for some of them it seems wrong.
the thing about toxic masculinity is not pushing your emotions and trauma away and compensating with aggression and violence bc that is expected from men. as a man, you're allowed to be angry and rough - as bm mentioned " toughen up" - but that leads to toxic and often abusive behaviour. that's the whole problem.
Just a question and something to think about, because this came up a few times here. What is a "strong" woman? Are you strong when you are able to beat men at work? Are you strong if you are scary? I always find it kind of uncomfortable when people say that some women are strong, because they are scary to them or because they are able to work at a job, where there are mainly male workers. Just wanna hear other people's opinions on this.
People say that strong women are scary because they tend to think they have to be like society " says ", and when a woman knows her rights and imposes herself on certain issues, she is "different"...And we well know that human being odd everything that is different or escapes the "norm", so they are usually associated as scary.
woah wait hol up, last week i was just having this dilemma of understanding men’s perspective and wanting so much to write about it on my blog but i keep getting confused. my guy friend goes like “em not soft” when we were talking something serious and emotional, whilst my other guy friend was more of expressive and emotional and honest about his emotions.. so i got confused which of them posesses real “manliness.” i know man have varied personalities but i as a woman, i prefer the expressive male friend because that way we can learn and relate to one another in more deeper sense, but then again i cant judge men who doesnt show much emotions because i respect how they handle it. so yea, all in all, this episode taught me things... definitely.
