I’m sure you’ve already researched it but rooster teeth is really good when it comes to copy right. So you can include a lot more of the episodes than you normally would be able too and all of the songs are perfectly fine too

Depends on the size of he channel, it seems. I did a playthrough of _RWBY: Grimm Eclipse_ and got claims on the music. RT's people were singularly unhelpful in dealing with the claims, as they did not get back to me until days before they expired, insisted there were no claims, from them or a third party, and then only got back to me again once the claims had expired. To avoid further claims, I layered royalty-free music over top of the in-game music, and that worked.
I was also very annoyed with Weiss my first watch through, but she actually gets some really solid development. As in she grows more self-aware and empathetic over time
You guys were spot on for the allusions for each character; I do want to point out that Wiess Schnee is actually German for "white snow" so Snow White is entirely correct, Blake does have a secondary allusion which you'll be able to notice later on in this volume and her last name "Belladonna" is meant to hint at her main allusion being Belle (also Blake means black in Old English), Yang is based off Goldilocks but what's interesting is her full name "Yang Xiao Long" isn't apart of the normal naming pattern with the color being right in the name, you have to look at her name's translation from Chinese which is "little light dragon" or "small dragon of the sunshine" this is were we can the yellow color reference, but I've also heard it may be a reference to a Chinese fairytale that I can't remember the name of. Also, just quickly, the Huntsman Schools are at college level so all the characters that got into the school normally, so excluding Ruby, are all like 17 or 18 and Ruby is 15 for this volume and the next couple volumes.

Belladonna is Italian. It means "Beautiful Lady". It's also deadly nightshade, once commonly used to widen the pupils of women to make their eyes more beautiful, hence the name.
I literally just finished Volume 7 and watching the show from the beginning like this now is making me notice so many references of future plots and characters, and I’m just so dumbfounded that they already knew the direction the series was gonna go so early on. Truly amazing😭✨

Monty would sit Jeff down for coffee and explain the Whole story to anyone who would listen, and the main beats for up to 9 volumes were allready thought out before his passing.
Yeah, listen to A crab. They got the deets. And then they say you don't need details, it's OBVIOUS. Then rwby fell off after x season, x did nothing wrong, etc etc. RWBY malcontents are SO boring.
I've heard two things: That Monty had notes, and that following his untimely passing, CRWBY decided not to follow them. Monty wasn't the best storyteller, but he was a great action animator. He needed help from Kerry, Miles, and the rest to make the story cogent, and even then it was far from being 'the best' out there. But it was great, and had a lot of potential and room to grow. Unfortunately I feel they've lost the thread pretty much entirely by Volume 7. If someone who cares more about story and character than message gets ahold of the IP, it could be great. I find _Ice Queendom_ 's animation to be unfortunately lacking most of the time, although they've taken the story in some interesting directions. Given the similarities in setting and characters, I would almost suggest Hoyoverse getting behind the wheel. Almost. Because while they have some great storytellers, they have a lot on their plates already, and anytime they've need an anime-style cinematic, they've outsourced it anyway. Plus, there're the censors, although _RWBY_ was always RT's most accessible properties anyway. Hoyo teased an anime for _Genshin_ by the way. ufotable, the guys behind _Kimetsu no Yaiba_ , are animating. So maybe in a couple years we'll get another awesome thing to watch.
I'm not the biggest fan of Jaune at the beginning of the series, but i do love his interactions with Ruby and her immediate genuine appreciation for his weapon, that isn't something fancy or specially made for him, but still has importance to him as an extension of himself.
So, I think the only weapon name we've heard in the series is Ruby's, but all their weapons have names as well. The ones we've seen so far: Ruby: Crescent Rose Weiss: Myrtenaster Blake: Gambol Shroud Yang: Ember Celica Jaune: Crocea Mors Obviously you'll get to see more as the series goes on. And next posting you'll have my favorite character who also happens to have my weapon in the episode. Boop.
BTW Ruby is most likely not only based on Red riding hood but also on Dorothy from the wizard of oz. But this is only something that will become visible as you progress with the seasons.
Weiss is the best character in the show plus the character that gets the most character development. The more you watch the more you will appreciate her.

I’m 64 years old and this is the only anime that I watch (I don’t care that it’s technically not an anime, it’s on my video devices so I’ll call it what I want), I’m a retired telephone lineman and a current bartender, and I’ve brought more than a few people around my age and younger into the FNDM. Play a couple of the songs for them, tell the guys that there’s lots of fighting and blowing things up, tell the gals that there’s a LOT of girl-power…you’ll find that there will bea few more folks you can re-watch the series with!
Can totally understand that. Don’t think our friends would get it either. And honestly if it wasn’t for this channel we probably wouldn’t have given it a chance. But once you give it a chance the characters grow on you and plus we have heard it gets better and more polished so we trust in the community 🙂
Great reactions guys! One of the great things about this show is the amount of character growth that occurs for everyone. Each person has their own inner struggles and things that they deal with and learn from.
Ruby & Jaune really do have a beautiful friendship that lasts.....He puts her at ease, makes her feel comfortable around him, etc. They support each other.
You are the first person I've seen to make the Blake-Belle connection from the book! That is generally missed until you know she has Belle influences then there is an oh yeah moment when you remember the book(and candle stick).
Translating character names can either give clues to their fairy tale or just be their color. Example: you mentioned Junior being little bear, his name is "Hei Xiong" which is Chinese for Black Bear. You need to find that name in credits because is is just called Junior on screen...

Every weapon has a name, but Crescent Rose is the only one named in the show; and they're (very nearly) always also a gun. There's a RWBY mod for a game called RimWorld. It's out of date now, until the modder finishes updating it for the latest expansion, but it was a lot of fun at the time. It includes a 'sneezing in the presence of dust' mechanic... I learned to store it seperately from my other resources after that happened.

I'm so excited for Volume 9. Its crazy how much these characters have changed since Volume 1. Cant wait for you guys to get caught up on this show, the fights to come are crazy and really good.
I have to admit I lost interest during the previous volume. Please let the rest of us know if they've improved things, so they at least remember their lore and what the characters can do. To me, unfortunately the last good episode was the Volume 7 pilot, for reasons.
@@BNuts Hard to tell if you stopped at the end of V7 or you are currently caught up. If you are not, based on your message, I highly doubt you would enjoy V8. I personally enjoyed the Atlas arc and was the main reason I decided to rewatch the show, which made me care about the show way more than any other show I have watched. Sorry to hear you aren’t enjoying the show like you use to. Since you made it this far into the show, I highly doubt you are someone who doesn’t like the show because it either isnt a School-Girl Anime anymore or your favourite character isnt “active” anymore. Or the millions of other non-sensical excuses for not liking or straight up hating the show.

However, some Volumes partially suffered due to the chapters being released weekly, which made some of the fanbase impatient or bored during certain arcs. Although V1 wasn’t really affected by this issue since the pace of the show at that time was unknown, most viewers like seeing reactors binge through at least the first 2 volumes, since the chapter lengths are usually very short. Overall, I would say RWBY is show that is better binged, but if it wasn’t released weekly, the discussion and therefore the community would be smaller.

The way they do it, the new episodes will release and then a week later that episode will be open to the public for free and then the next episode will be released the same day. You have to wait an extra week to watch the newest episode. Unless they changed it. I only get a subscription for their website just to watch RWBY and then I cancel it.
Man, I always am amused by the first episodes at how, from her trailer, I was sure I was gonna love Weiss the most, as I thought she was the quiet shy lonely type. And then... BAM. WOW. Quiet and shy out the window. I remember my friend texting me and being all like, "Is Weiss still your favorite?" and my reply of "I'm holding out hope." While watching this show, pay attention to the little details. This show definitely makes them worth being mindful of and I think you'll find it more enjoyable ultimately if you are attentive to them. And that's probably as much as I can say without spoilers. A fun game with RWBY is every character is a reference. Some to Fairy Tales, some to history, some to other stories, etc. Can you figure out who each character is inspired by? There's some incredibly clever allusions in this show. So one thing in response to Bethany about Yang's confidence and everything, its not really explicitly stated, but the entry age for Beacon is 17. So they're a bit older than you may have thought. Basically seniors in high school age when they start here. Except for Ruby since she skipped a couple years. I remember my high school, our valedictorian was 15 at graduation as she skipped 3 grades before starting High School. And she actually could have skipped one more in High School but chose not to. She was definitely not a socially awkward girl though, ambitious as hell, super confident, but always the first to reach out her hand to help.
Even at 17 and early 20s confidence like Yangs is hard to come by. You’ll see arrogance a lot. Bravado. Cockiness. But true confidence, the kind you don’t need to show off, that’s tough at any age 😊🤗

I’m glad you’re doing multiple episodes. The first two seasons have some very short episodes. In fact, the entirety of season one is barely two hours. Of course, things will change as the seasons go on

The *shadow people* disappear after Volume 1 ( the show budget gets bigger ) an every Volume ( season ) from here on out the animation gets better and better....

I don't know why, but I've always loved that final scene in chapter 3. It's very much like a theater scene. Also, each of the main 4 takes inspiration from fairy tales, but not most of the characters in the show. I don't wanna spoil anything so I'll just toss a challenge to you guys: - Try to guess the inspiration behind all the characters you see in the show! It's amazing that she guessed all the girls on episode 3! (Took me awhile to guess Blake's lol)
As far as I know, RoosterTeeth is fine with full reactions to RWBY and the soundtrack for it, they only strike content that is not yet available on their youtube channel (aka if you need their subscription on the website to watch it) which is up to season (volume) 7 at least. Weiss is a character you will learn to love, they've all had some troubled past issues and the show will try to ease you into the knowledge before finally dropping it on you. Especially with Blake. As for personalities, Yang is chaotic confidence because she has to be for Ruby, and from that chaotic confidence came Ruby's chaotic innocence personality. Blake is reserved for reasons that will be touched on in Volume 2 I believe, and Weiss is angry and above others for reasons that will be touched on between volumes 2 and 3.
Yeah, you don't get to see the better side of Weiss in Volume 1 except for extremely brief, seemingly out of nowhere glimpses. V1's short running time does a real disservice to the development of many characters, Weiss included.

Good reaction, Great post discussion. Some folks really look for the vicarious emotional buzz when viewing reactions, so much so that they will skip over pre/post discussions. Nothing wrong with that, I enjoy it too! You'll certainly see a bump of viewers once you hit some of the 'flashier' episodes and arcs. For me I enjoy the analysis more. This show intentionally starts out 'simplistic'. One dimensional characters, 'high school-ish' antics, and snappy one liners will eventually give way to more complex themes. You both seem quite perceptive so I'm looking forward to when some of the larger, more complex arcs and character development starts to take hold in later episodes/volumes. Keep it up, glad you started the series.
There's an irony about Blake's fairy tale comment, because most of the characters are inspired from different fairy tales. Figuring out which is which is part of the fun.

Ah crap, America has come to "spread freedom" to Beacon... I would agree that Blake is the more experienced of the four. As we saw in her trailer, she was out and about fighting on a train with bots designed and programmed to combat interlopers. I do believe the trailers are canon, although Ruby's can be considered either or since it has no ties into anything other than Ruby showing off her ability to kill grimm. And yeah I remember being all interested in Weiss when I watched her trailer, then she met Ruby and I was all "Ah she's bratty, meaning it'll be a slowburn for the audience to get to like her." I think you figured out most but here's the list so far: Ruby - Red Riding Hood Weiss - Snow White Blake - Beauty & The Beast (I remember you watched ahead a bit, so I can say this one plainly.) Be patient with Weiss. She’s actually one of three best girls (at least for me, anyway), just not yet. There is a LOT of character development in this show. Regression too, but we’re not going to talk about that yet Edit: Anytime a fairytale is mentioned, it’s important. Both for character inspiration, and for those mentioned directly in the show. For example, the book about the man with two souls. Aaaand, oz seeming like he’s not actually there. Just a little food for thought. Anyway, I’m glad to see you’re enjoying the show, and a lot of the things you’ve talked about get touched on later in the show. There’s a reason Yang is the way she is, as there is a reason for the way Weiss Blake and Jaune are. So uh. Yeah. Oh, and be careful with the comments. Those of us in FNDM (which, by the way, the rite of passage for acceptance into our cul- ahem, “family”, is making it through V3) really love this show, but we’re not always the best with spoilers. I’m actually a little upset that the comments gave away some of the character inspirations, because there are a number of references that are supposed to make it blindingly clear who they are. Here's something to blow your mind, a shield like Juane's which appears to be all metal, would probably weigh upwards of 30+lb (wooden one with a metal facing around that size weighed around 9lb)
When you catch up you should watch Ice Queendom. Its a 2D anime retelling of the first Volume and the in-between for Volume 2. Its actually really fun and cuts out the more unnecessary parts of Volume 1 and adds to more important necessary character building. Also makes some future characters seem far more likeable and not just manipulative absentee parental figures.
Very perseptive! You guys catch on quick. Blake is definitely the most mysterious but you'll soon find they all have more to them than meets the eye. Also yes, I had the same exact reaction to Weiss. That character type is one of my least favorote to watch or read. Real Dorian Gray or Great Gatsby type of attitude. Luckily she, like almost everyone else, gets better with time.
So you may have noticed that the characters in RWBY are named after color right? There's a reason for this, when Monty created the series he had what would be called a "Color Naming Rule". The guidelines for these rules are as followed 1. Be a color. 2. Sound like a color. 3. Mean a color. 4. Makes people think of a color.
Jaune Arc is a gender bent version of Jeanne d'Arc or Joan of Arc and his weapon is called Crocea Mors named after the same weapon wielded by Julies Ceasar as for the girls you practically nailed it on the head Weiss is based off of Snow White, Blake is based off of Belle from Beauty and the Beast with Adam from the Black Trailer being Beast, and Yang is based off of Goldilocks with Junior being the Littel Bear, as for the Teachers they are from the same Fairy Tale Glynda is based off of Glenda the Good witch and Ozpin is based off of the Wizard of Oz, looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the characters.
One thing about RWBY is that it LOVES to subvert stereotypes. Each one of these characters starts off being an archetype and over the course of the show grows to be far more than what they appear. Weiss the entitled princess, Blake the mysterious girl, Yang the outgoing bubbly girl, Jaune the bumbling but lovable buffoon .. It's an excellent story road to travel.
You have embarked on an interesting journey. I encourage you to see it through at LEAST as far as the end of season three. Your patience will be rewarded. Season three is where this series found its legs, but you gotta get there to get there.
I at first thought Yang was based on Samson from the Bible. Both are people with super strength whose source of power is thier long beautiful hair. Maybe she was inspired by him a bit.
I will say nothing about Weiss and Blake cus I won't be able to hold back spoilers, but Jaune has a growth in this series that is actually really mature to me, even in his early development arcs. It's pretty cool to see.

I love how they were trying to imply that Yang was the "perfect" character, when the actual perfect, and arguably best character in the show shows up in the next episode. They said they're a month ahead, so they are probably into Volume 2 by now, so I could name names, but I don't feel like it, you all know who I'm talking about anyway.

AND trying watching the Death Battle that involve Yang, Blake & Weiss. Ruby have not appear in a Death Battle yet so I think you guys will enjoy them. Its your choice if you want to watch the whole show to understand the characters & lore of RWBY or you could just watch the Death Battle that the characters are in.

I kinda see why people would warn them. Sometimes certain characters can be the reason why a series is dropped. I know someone who didnt wanna see Volume 2 because of Weiss.
i'm not sure on how far back you will read these but if you continue... pay attention to every little detail for there are a TON of hints and easter eggs through out each of these chapters that will gives you a heads up on what to expect

You guys were spot on for the allusions for each character; I do want to point out that Wiess Schnee is actually German for "white snow" so Snow White is entirely correct, Blake does have a secondary allusion which you'll be able to notice later on in this volume and her last name "Belladonna" is meant to hint at her main allusion being Belle (also Blake means black in Old English), Yang is based off Goldilocks but what's interesting is her full name "Yang Xiao Long" isn't apart of the normal naming pattern with the color being right in the name, you have to look at her name's translation from Chinese which is "little light dragon" or "small dragon of the sunshine" this is were we can the yellow color reference, but I've also heard it may be a reference to a Chinese fairytale that I can't remember the name of.
Also, just quickly, the Huntsman Schools are at college level so all the characters that got into the school normally, so excluding Ruby, are all like 17 or 18 and Ruby is 15 for this volume and the next couple volumes.

It means "Beautiful Lady". It's also deadly nightshade, once commonly used to widen the pupils of women to make their eyes more beautiful, hence the name.
I literally just finished Volume 7 and watching the show from the beginning like this now is making me notice so many references of future plots and characters, and I’m just so dumbfounded that they already knew the direction the series was gonna go so early on. Truly amazing😭✨

RWBY malcontents are SO boring.
I've heard two things: That Monty had notes, and that following his untimely passing, CRWBY decided not to follow them.
Monty wasn't the best storyteller, but he was a great action animator. He needed help from Kerry, Miles, and the rest to make the story cogent, and even then it was far from being 'the best' out there. But it was great, and had a lot of potential and room to grow. Unfortunately I feel they've lost the thread pretty much entirely by Volume 7.
If someone who cares more about story and character than message gets ahold of the IP, it could be great. I find _Ice Queendom_ 's animation to be unfortunately lacking most of the time, although they've taken the story in some interesting directions.
Given the similarities in setting and characters, I would almost suggest Hoyoverse getting behind the wheel. Almost. Because while they have some great storytellers, they have a lot on their plates already, and anytime they've need an anime-style cinematic, they've outsourced it anyway. Plus, there're the censors, although _RWBY_ was always RT's most accessible properties anyway.
Hoyo teased an anime for _Genshin_ by the way. ufotable, the guys behind _Kimetsu no Yaiba_ , are animating. So maybe in a couple years we'll get another awesome thing to watch.

I'm not the biggest fan of Jaune at the beginning of the series, but i do love his interactions with Ruby and her immediate genuine appreciation for his weapon, that isn't something fancy or specially made for him, but still has importance to him as an extension of himself.
Weiss is actually my favorite of the 4 so trust me, the redemption story for Weiss is incredible, cant wait for yall to see it!

I’m 64 years old and this is the only anime that I watch (I don’t care that it’s technically not an anime, it’s on my video devices so I’ll call it what I want), I’m a retired telephone lineman and a current bartender, and I’ve brought more than a few people around my age and younger into the FNDM. Play a couple of the songs for them, tell the guys that there’s lots of fighting and blowing things up, tell the gals that there’s a LOT of girl-power…you’ll find that there will bea few more folks you can re-watch the series with!
Can totally understand that. Don’t think our friends would get it either. And honestly if it wasn’t for this channel we probably wouldn’t have given it a chance. But once you give it a chance the characters grow on you and plus we have heard it gets better and more polished so we trust in the community 🙂
Great reactions guys! One of the great things about this show is the amount of character growth that occurs for everyone. Each person has their own inner struggles and things that they deal with and learn from.

You are the first person I've seen to make the Blake-Belle connection from the book! That is generally missed until you know she has Belle influences then there is an oh yeah moment when you remember the book(and candle stick).
Translating character names can either give clues to their fairy tale or just be their color. Example: you mentioned Junior being little bear, his name is "Hei Xiong" which is Chinese for Black Bear. You need to find that name in credits because is is just called Junior on screen...
The credits can be funny too.

Every weapon has a name, but Crescent Rose is the only one named in the show; and they're (very nearly) always also a gun.
There's a RWBY mod for a game called RimWorld. It's out of date now, until the modder finishes updating it for the latest expansion, but it was a lot of fun at the time. It includes a 'sneezing in the presence of dust' mechanic... I learned to store it seperately from my other resources after that happened.

I'm so excited for Volume 9. Its crazy how much these characters have changed since Volume 1. Cant wait for you guys to get caught up on this show, the fights to come are crazy and really good.
I have to admit I lost interest during the previous volume. Please let the rest of us know if they've improved things, so they at least remember their lore and what the characters can do. To me, unfortunately the last good episode was the Volume 7 pilot, for reasons.

However, some Volumes partially suffered due to the chapters being released weekly, which made some of the fanbase impatient or bored during certain arcs. Although V1 wasn’t really affected by this issue since the pace of the show at that time was unknown, most viewers like seeing reactors binge through at least the first 2 volumes, since the chapter lengths are usually very short. Overall, I would say RWBY is show that is better binged, but if it wasn’t released weekly, the discussion and therefore the community would be smaller.

The way they do it, the new episodes will release and then a week later that episode will be open to the public for free and then the next episode will be released the same day. You have to wait an extra week to watch the newest episode. Unless they changed it. I only get a subscription for their website just to watch RWBY and then I cancel it.

Man, I always am amused by the first episodes at how, from her trailer, I was sure I was gonna love Weiss the most, as I thought she was the quiet shy lonely type. And then... BAM. WOW. Quiet and shy out the window. I remember my friend texting me and being all like, "Is Weiss still your favorite?" and my reply of "I'm holding out hope."
While watching this show, pay attention to the little details. This show definitely makes them worth being mindful of and I think you'll find it more enjoyable ultimately if you are attentive to them. And that's probably as much as I can say without spoilers.
A fun game with RWBY is every character is a reference. Some to Fairy Tales, some to history, some to other stories, etc. Can you figure out who each character is inspired by? There's some incredibly clever allusions in this show.
So one thing in response to Bethany about Yang's confidence and everything, its not really explicitly stated, but the entry age for Beacon is 17. So they're a bit older than you may have thought. Basically seniors in high school age when they start here. Except for Ruby since she skipped a couple years. I remember my high school, our valedictorian was 15 at graduation as she skipped 3 grades before starting High School. And she actually could have skipped one more in High School but chose not to. She was definitely not a socially awkward girl though, ambitious as hell, super confident, but always the first to reach out her hand to help.
Yeah the characters are basically college freshmen.
Even at 17 and early 20s confidence like Yangs is hard to come by. You’ll see arrogance a lot. Bravado. Cockiness. But true confidence, the kind you don’t need to show off, that’s tough at any age 😊🤗

I don't know why, but I've always loved that final scene in chapter 3. It's very much like a theater scene.

The first few episodes of RWBY are short because they didn't have that big of a budget but, it gets longer and better as they get going

Weiss is a character you will learn to love, they've all had some troubled past issues and the show will try to ease you into the knowledge before finally dropping it on you. Especially with Blake.
As for personalities, Yang is chaotic confidence because she has to be for Ruby, and from that chaotic confidence came Ruby's chaotic innocence personality. Blake is reserved for reasons that will be touched on in Volume 2 I believe, and Weiss is angry and above others for reasons that will be touched on between volumes 2 and 3.
Yeah, you don't get to see the better side of Weiss in Volume 1 except for extremely brief, seemingly out of nowhere glimpses. V1's short running time does a real disservice to the development of many characters, Weiss included.

Good reaction, Great post discussion. Some folks really look for the vicarious emotional buzz when viewing reactions, so much so that they will skip over pre/post discussions. Nothing wrong with that, I enjoy it too! You'll certainly see a bump of viewers once you hit some of the 'flashier' episodes and arcs. For me I enjoy the analysis more. This show intentionally starts out 'simplistic'. One dimensional characters, 'high school-ish' antics, and snappy one liners will eventually give way to more complex themes. You both seem quite perceptive so I'm looking forward to when some of the larger, more complex arcs and character development starts to take hold in later episodes/volumes. Keep it up, glad you started the series.

There's an irony about Blake's fairy tale comment, because most of the characters are inspired from different fairy tales. Figuring out which is which is part of the fun.

I would agree that Blake is the more experienced of the four. As we saw in her trailer, she was out and about fighting on a train with bots designed and programmed to combat interlopers. I do believe the trailers are canon, although Ruby's can be considered either or since it has no ties into anything other than Ruby showing off her ability to kill grimm. And yeah I remember being all interested in Weiss when I watched her trailer, then she met Ruby and I was all "Ah she's bratty, meaning it'll be a slowburn for the audience to get to like her."

When you catch up you should watch Ice Queendom. Its a 2D anime retelling of the first Volume and the in-between for Volume 2. Its actually really fun and cuts out the more unnecessary parts of Volume 1 and adds to more important necessary character building. Also makes some future characters seem far more likeable and not just manipulative absentee parental figures.

Very perseptive! You guys catch on quick. Blake is definitely the most mysterious but you'll soon find they all have more to them than meets the eye. Also yes, I had the same exact reaction to Weiss. That character type is one of my least favorote to watch or read. Real Dorian Gray or Great Gatsby type of attitude. Luckily she, like almost everyone else, gets better with time.
So you may have noticed that the characters in RWBY are named after color right? There's a reason for this, when Monty created the series he had what would be called a "Color Naming Rule". The guidelines for these rules are as followed
1. Be a color.
2. Sound like a color.
3. Mean a color.
4. Makes people think of a color.
Also yeah keep in mind Yang is very much not who she seems. Shes a very nice person yes. But there is a lot of pain underneath you'll learn about.
Jaune Arc is a gender bent version of Jeanne d'Arc or Joan of Arc and his weapon is called Crocea Mors named after the same weapon wielded by Julies Ceasar as for the girls you practically nailed it on the head Weiss is based off of Snow White,
Blake is based off of Belle from Beauty and the Beast with Adam from the Black Trailer being Beast, and Yang is based off of Goldilocks with Junior being the Littel Bear, as for the Teachers they are from the same Fairy Tale Glynda is based off of Glenda the Good witch and Ozpin is based off of the Wizard of Oz, looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the characters.

One thing about RWBY is that it LOVES to subvert stereotypes. Each one of these characters starts off being an archetype and over the course of the show grows to be far more than what they appear. Weiss the entitled princess, Blake the mysterious girl, Yang the outgoing bubbly girl, Jaune the bumbling but lovable buffoon .. It's an excellent story road to travel.
It's not just fairy tale characters. Jaune is based off of Joan of Arc. There are some others who are based off of historical figures and myths.

I at first thought Yang was based on Samson from the Bible. Both are people with super strength whose source of power is thier long beautiful hair. Maybe she was inspired by him a bit.

The secondary team, Team JNPR (Juniper) are based off of gender flipped historical figures. In the case of Jaune Arc, he's based on Joan of Arc.

I love how they were trying to imply that Yang was the "perfect" character, when the actual perfect, and arguably best character in the show shows up in the next episode. They said they're a month ahead, so they are probably into Volume 2 by now, so I could name names, but I don't feel like it, you all know who I'm talking about anyway.

I do agree with your suggestions regarding some of the additional content they could watch along with Chibi, if they need it.

i'm not sure on how far back you will read these but if you continue... pay attention to every little detail for there are a TON of hints and easter eggs through out each of these chapters that will gives you a heads up on what to expect
Ironically Wiess is my fav, she's the best!! and Blake is my least i just don't vib with her. It may sound crazy now but this is how it turned out for me after watching it all 🤍❄🤍
