    I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your channel. I grew up in the 70's riding two-stroke Yamaha's. I had a 1974 DT 100 and a 1972 LT2 MX. They were such fun bikes to ride, it was a great period in motorcycling and I was fortunate to experience it. Watching you rebuild these vintage machines really takes me back. Thank you for sharing your work on youtube.

      The 70’s really was a golden era for bikes.

      I was growing up here in the UK and it really did seem like an exciting time for motorcycling. They were everywhere and new innovations seemed to be happening almost constantly.

      @@retromechanicalengineer nice to see the nostalgia creating a greater appreciation for the technology/innovation. Seems like there is a growing vintage riding/racing community here in America. People fix up old bikes and race at Daytona & other events in a vintage class. It’s not just for looks

    • @retromechanicalengineer
      @retromechanicalengineer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vinnyvinson the same seems to be happening here. There is definitely a younger generation that don't just want to look at older bikes, they want to race them and use them as intended. It's great to see.

    Great fixture Dale. I like it because it puts the barrel in compression as it would be when fitted.
    Idea noted!
    Best wishes, Dean.

      These fixtures do work well, just like a torque plate on a car engine when they are being bored and honed.

    I had a similar issue happen to my TC90 back in the day. The Suzuki dealership had a really good shop and didn't have any issues after they bored the cylinder and replaced the piston. I think you shouldn't have any problems doing the same.

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey David, Yes I think your right, just not sure what cause the problem to start with. Owner said he got the bike without an aircleaner, I think that explains the problem.

    Any thoughts on Ball Hone sizing. What I mean is how much bigger should the ball hone be than the bore which I understand is considerably more important with 2 stroke cylinders than with 4 strokes. Thanks as always for taking the time to put these great videos online, they are GREATLY appreciated.

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Alex, I have heard somewhere how much oversize they should be for preload, can't remember where. I think about 1/2 inch is enough. You just need some pressure against the cylinder walls. The great thing about the ball hone is that it takes care of chamfering ports too.

      @@montana2strokeracer Thanks Dale, that's what I was wondering about.

  • @1crazypj
    @1crazypj ปีที่แล้ว

    In my experience, Suzuki 125 motors can only run at a max of 0.006" oversize before the skirt breaks off. (on a 56mm bore)
    The 90, being a smaller bore (47.5mm) could conceivably go to 0.010" over but that would be maximum before things start breaking due to piston slap.
    The optical illusion of the holesaw going through torque plate (around 33 min) made me feel a bit nauseous 🙄

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I understand, I just don't like any of them very loose. I like to set up tight and do a slow breakin with an overabundance of oil. They just tend to last longer this way.
      Yes I saw it too, looked like the stem was turning one way and the cutter the other. Very weird.

    I have a steel slate motorized bicycle motor it’s 49 mm do you think it can be bored to 52

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not real sure without looking at the sleeve size, do they make a 52mm piston for it.
