Matching pattern is like next level stylings for me. I stick to one pattern and one solid. I will take a look at what I have pattern wise and see if I feel confident in matching them because the outfits you showed looked really good.
I never really understood the 'rules' of mixing patterns until this video! I love pattern would see outfits with mixed patterns that looked so good but I couldn't figure out how to do it on my own and make it look right. Thank you so much for this video and all the others you make. They are great information.
Thank you for this video. You have saved my (colour and print matching) life. Finally, someone who gives a guidelines for us style novices and not just "well there are no rules". You have a new subscriber in me.
I have a lot of patterned scarves/hijabs, and I sometimes get stuck on how to incorporate them with my wardrobe, particularly with tweeds, patterned silk shirts, houndstooth jackets etc. This video is great, so thank you for the tips!
@Fadhillah Norzahari - Any secret tips you care to share? I’m having a challenge matching scarves to outfits myself at the moment. Too many times I’m relegated to using a solid shirt/dress/jacket and then a pattern scarf. Or, pattern on the clothing and solid on the scarf. The mixing and blending of pattern with pattern is a bit intimidating and I don’t want to do it wrong.
I wish there was a button that allowed me to give you a Gold Star for this video. I have watched a lot of videos on how to mix and match prints and yours is by far THE BEST I have seen. You really explained the principals of matching and I completely understood the concept. Very well done. Thank you for sharing this awesome tutorial. I have just subscribed to your channel and am going to binge watch your videos :)
2019 will be more colorful for me, thanks to you! I will try this I really love pattern especially here in Indonesia we have lots of pattern in batik and other patterned traditional fabric
I love striped 70's wide palazzo pants and floral flared pants but I always go safe and simple with simple white, black or beige on top. However I would like to style them in a much nicer way, so matching patterns with patterns and textures is indeed tricky but lovely to accomplish!!!! 😍😍😍 As always this video was indeed super informative and interesting!!!
Have a couple of striped shirts which I love putting a floral shirt in red with large pattern on top works beautifully and the stripes picks upcolors from the flowers
Love the video. I am a plus size and have never understood the reason behind the patterns and prints. If i wear a pattern or print i always wore it with a solid. Now i actually have a idea of what i am looking at. Thank you
Patterns! One of my favorite topics--thanks, Daria! I have a vintage blazer with a small check pattern in multiple colors that reads as grey from a distance. It can match with a wide array of patterns (organic or geometric) as long as one of the colors in the blazer matches the dominant color in the paired pattern.
I love mixing patterns, much to the horror of my solids loving partner. My artist friend encourages my love of eclectic eccentricity, let's me know I'm on the right track for my personal style and self -expression. Thanks for these further refining tips to elegant styling of mixed prints! Love you videos!
This is sooo incredibly helpful! Thank you! Could you maybe do a video on how to wear bold colours? I've been loving a fuchsia-orange combo lately, and would love to continue mixing up different colours. Aside from pinterest, a video of yours could give some great inspiration 😍
Very interesting video! I'm a little afraid of wearing print mixed with other prints so i usally stay away from it completely. But this looks so cool and effortless. I'm happy that now i have some guidelines and it makes senses now. So thank you. Inspiring as always.
Very helpful! Thank you, Daria! Another way to see if a prospective addition to our wardrobes is worthy of purchase is to find items that are similar to pieces we already own at the store. Trying on that printed top with a bottom in a solid colored bottom (or printed bottom) we already have can really help us assess if the new item has earned a place in our Wonder Wardrobe.
This rule is more about harmonizing your proportions, but if you feel like you don’t want that you can try to mix small & large patterns. Welcome to my channel, have fun exploring 🤗
Just yesterday I wore a mustard blouse with little hearts and a water color like skirt. A small-medium pattern combination! Also like to think certain bold stripes as neutral.
Like mixing patterns very much. Especially, stripes and polka dot. I think it brings more strength to the look. But it could be risky as well. You have to be bold in some way to mix such patterns cause they do attract a lot of attention.
I totally live to do that too! I think it works because both can have a sort of retro French style vibe (Brigitte Bardot). For example, a black and white polka dot voluminous midi skirt would mix really well with a simple Breton stripe top. I love to mix tartan and leopard too, but I think Daria might disagree with that combo 😂 I do that with my favourite midi Scottish kilt and a pair of leopard pumps. I always get compliments with that look!
Love this type of video 😍. Thank You Daria! When mixing patterns I find it difficult to understand if the focus always lays on the pattern itself, or if the type of fabric deserves more focus. Should I only mix a patterned wool with another knitted fabric with a pattern? Or can I mix a patterned silk fabric with a more chunky fabric as long as the patterns match?
Eli the Owl the latter , its actually more pleasant to the eye , you can also use a pattern and corderoy or velvet or something fluffy or silk in a pattern but in a solid color
I think you should either go for a bold pattern mix or a bold fabric mix, not both. By bold I mean two fabrics that really stand out like a very fluffy Mohair jumper or something glittery. Silk, cotton, jean fabric, simple wool are all so plain you can mix and match with anything I think :)
This vid is amazing. I learnt so much. Would you be doing a capsule video with colour and patterns? I am trying to update my work wardrobe with colours and patterns however considering my budget I am trying to shop for high-quality preloved. Just waiting for my bonus to roll around so i can take the wonder wardrobe course. :(
My struggle with prints is that I tend to wear them as statement pieces. Then, when I wear them again I feel like I've worn the same outfit recently and it feels awkward. I don't have this struggle with solids (unless they are very bold/unusual colors).
I never match prints, but I like the look of flowers with stripes or flowers with polka dots together. Otherwise it seems to me too pretentious and bloggery 😀😀.. Maybe I'll try some of your ideas 😍
Loved this video, Daria!! Just in time, as I was trying to make an outfit with a dotted blouse. What is that irregular polka dot pattern called (you have some in the video; it's like polka dots but small and random)? I love it! xx
A very useful video! I always wondered how to match patterns together and because I was afraid to make mistakes I Avoided to do so. Thank you so much Daria ! Also for all the information about ecological clothes!!
Those pattern classifications opened my eyes to a whole new dimension of mixing. Thank you! What I struggle with: African prints. I adore them, but cannot see a skirt matched with a patterned top. The print is large (the size of hand), colorful (brown-blue-sharp yellow-white) and has angles as well as round shapes. According to your mixing advice I should pair it with a medium size print. Which might leave the garments wear me, if you know what I mean? (My face would be all but invisible, everyone would see the prints first, not me.) Do you have any advice?
Laine Laine--when I wear a pattern that has very strong cultural significance, I pair it with solids and let it be the absolute star of the look. To me, it feels more meaningful that way. Generic dots, flowers, and stripes I feel free to mix together, but the ethnic pieces I surround in "colorful plainness" so they are elevated to their rightful historic importance. I'm also careful to not combine prints or jewelry from 2 different groups or cultures in one outfit. I know designers do it all the time, but to me, it screams of carelessness and lack of knowledge. (But...to each his/her own. This is just how I do it.)
Love this video. I actually cheat. I am drawn to pieces that have a mixed print built in....a jacket that is a patchwork of different patterns, but united with a similar background (base). Or a black and white polka dot skirt with panels of medium alternating with smaller black polka dots on a white base. I can add a black sweater or red...or yellow....
I love all classical patterns: herringbone, plaids, argyle, houndstooth, polka dots. However, combining them is not my strongest point. So I basically just use one patterned piece and go with monochromatic for the rest. I don’t know why I feel like these patterns are strong enough on their own and don’t really combine well among themselves.
Hello Daria! I have a question on how you edit your videos, specifically how you edit the clothing pieces so that you can manipulate and them and essentially play a "paper doll" game with mixing and matching them! I would appreciate your knowledge on this because I am currently trying to outfit plan for an upcoming trip and being able to see how many combinations i can make with the clothing pieces I have would be very beneficial! Thank you so much!
My process consists of 2 steps, first I find all the pieces I want to include in the capsule using the Wonder wardrobe method and than I save photos of them and use Photoshop to edit them into a visual guide. So before I start editing I already know what and how many outfits I have. To be honest It took me years of practice with graphic editing softwares to make these kind of paper doll style outfits...
Daria Andronescu thank you so much for your input! Yesterday I was playing around with some photo-editing software and I think figured out a way that will work for what I need! 😁👍🏻
You made something complicated seem so easy, amazing work.
Can you expand upon the idea with how to mix textures?
Matching pattern is like next level stylings for me. I stick to one pattern and one solid. I will take a look at what I have pattern wise and see if I feel confident in matching them because the outfits you showed looked really good.
Another brilliant video. Seems the trick is to have beautiful prints to begin with.
I never really understood the 'rules' of mixing patterns until this video! I love pattern would see outfits with mixed patterns that looked so good but I couldn't figure out how to do it on my own and make it look right. Thank you so much for this video and all the others you make. They are great information.

I really love matching pattern

Vous êtes magnifique! Could you please make a video on matching textures and fabrics?
I tend to use solid colours a lot so don't have problems matching the prints . I haven't tried matching prints with prints.
2019 will be more colorful for me, thanks to you! I will try this I really love pattern especially here in Indonesia we have lots of pattern in batik and other patterned traditional fabric

Great video!!! I have never watched any other explaining better! You are so creative. Thank you!
I would wear all your strange pattern mixes. You are right: they work. Once again, thanks Daria for your inspiration!
Today I'm wearing for the first time a print combination based in your video!!!!!!
Have a couple of striped shirts which I love putting a floral shirt in red with large pattern on top works beautifully and the stripes picks upcolors from the flowers
I love your videos. First youtuber i found with practical n visual guidance for utilising entire wardrobe
very helpful and well made video! thank u!
Love the video. I am a plus size and have never understood the reason behind the patterns and prints. If i wear a pattern or print i always wore it with a solid. Now i actually have a idea of what i am looking at. Thank you

One of my favorite things in the world is pattern mixing Thanks so much! Love your channel and your mission so much!
Hi Daria! Thanks for this video! Would you like to say something about the type of fabric when matching print on print? Thanks!
Those ear rings are very interesting. Where are they from?
simply and esential. thank you for prepering this video. i love it 💪❤
Yay! New video! Thank you Daria, I always appreciate your work!

This was very useful! Thanks Daria!!

I love this! But I do love the small & large combo to be honest. Thx for the tips. I subcribed.🤓

Best. Video. Ever. Thank you for making it.
Putting this is my video file for when I decide to mix it up. Great instructional material. Thanks for sharing and continued blessing in 2019.

@@abigaelmacritchie1365 Why not?) If it makes you feel good and looks nice) I'm a fan of patterns))))
Brilliant, I'm impressed with your knowledge of fashion.

Excelente presentacion.

So interesting!
Well researched one..
This vid is amazing. I learnt so much.

All capsules that I show here are with colour and patterns. Please, check the channel :) there's also a playlist with wardrobe examples for work 😉
Very helpful video. Before, i always mixed flowers with stripes and flowers with dotts :)
Excelente vídeo! Siempre impecable!👍
My struggle with prints is that I tend to wear them as statement pieces. Then, when I wear them again I feel like I've worn the same outfit recently and it feels awkward. I don't have this struggle with solids (unless they are very bold/unusual colors).
That’s strange. Why do you feel awkward wearing the same outfit?
Ha ha I feel the same, no idea why!🤷🏾♀️
I never match prints, but I like the look of flowers with stripes or flowers with polka dots together. Otherwise it seems to me too pretentious and bloggery 😀😀.. Maybe I'll try some of your ideas 😍

I always struggle with corduroy, because the texture looks like a striped pattern. Any advise for that specific fabric?
I do save pictures of new clothes that i would like to buy to see what kind of outfits i can make with it

RIXXO LONDON masters this pattern mixing in their dresses
Ah interesting! I love patchwork actually. It can look so chic! And btw it’s one of the trends for this and next year.

Так сложнооо,это целое искусство))
