About (BRADGATE PARK):
Bradgate Park in Leicestershire, England is famous for its geological features, wildlife, and history:
Geology
The park's rock outcrops range from Precambrian to Quaternary, and include some of the oldest fossil-bearing rocks in England. The discovery of the fossil Charnia in the Precambrian rocks changed our understanding of early life on Earth.
Wildlife
The park is home to 550 red and fallow deer, and has a large sanctuary area for the deer that's off-limits to the public.
History
The park is the only remaining enclosed medieval deer park in the East Midlands, and was once the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey. It's also home to the ruins of Bradgate House, a 16th century house with royal connections, including visits from King Charles I and Queen Henrietta Maria in 1634, and William III and Queen Mary II in 1696. The chapel of Bradgate House is still intact, and contains a tomb effigy to Henry Grey, 1st Earl of Stamford and his wife.
VLOG SUMMARY:
On Tuesday the 23rd of July 2024, after breakfast, we planned to visit the Most HISTORICAL & BEAUTIFUL Bradgate Park. Bradgate Park is a public park in Charnwood Forest, in Leicestershire, England, northwest of Leicester. It covers 850 acres. The park lies between the villages of Newtown Linford, Anstey, Cropston, Woodhouse Eaves and Swithland.
We reached the BRADGATE PARK at around 10:00am. We started our walk to see the beautiful landscapes, historical ruins & deer's. During our walk we reached a gorge flowing through the park named Little Matlock Gorge. As we progressed further we reached the HISTORICAL RUINS of BRADGATE HOUSE, which has been the home to the shortest serving QUEEN of ENGLAND, Lady JANE GREY, which was only 9 days. It is the only ROYAL HOUSE that stands without FORTIFICATION.
Going further, we came across the BEAUTIFUL DEER SANCTURY. Our children really enjoyed being so close to deer's. It was time for lunch so we took some rest and refreshments at the Deer Barn Cafe & Restaurant.
As we continued walking we reached the Memorial Woods then the Cropston Reservoir, (originally known as Bradgate Reservoir) lies in Charnwood Forest in Leicestershire, England. The dam and associated water works are in Cropston, while the bulk of the reservoir is in the neighbouring Newtown Linford parish.
Till this we were very tired and plan to visit again next morning to see the remaining one site "OLD JOHN TOWER".
We started our return walk and my son spent some time at water gorge and then we left for Hotel.
This is how we spent our DAY 3 in LEICESTER.
