    Thank you so much for addressing in advance the people who dismiss everything as genetics. I have type 3 hair that was NEVER long. Then a few years ago when I learned techniques from other cultures and my hair started growing and looking thicker…family would ask me what I was doing. When I would try and tell them…they would end up cutting me off and saying that it was too much to do and I just have “good hair”. Mind you…these are the same people who have known me for years and know that I never had long hair before (not even as a child). I guess you can’t save everyone.

      Yup i go through the same thing. when my hair was short and started growing faster (i was keeping the length faster) people i know would ask for tips but as soon as my hair grew past shoulder length they said it's just genetics. it only affects them though so we shall keep learning 💖

      You can't save everyone. Some people just aren't willing to do the needful. Our hair to be honest does take a lot of work compared to straight hair, but the rewards fir doing so are beyond belief. Thanks for your story people need to hear it.

      Blaming it on genetics dismisses your efforts and excuses their lack of length.

    My boyfriend is Hawaiian and I am Native American Cherokee
    Both cultures embrace long hair it's the custom not to cut it
    Every female in his family has butt length hair
    Coconut milk used as a deep.conditiona
    Coconut water used as a spritz and
    Rice water as well
    He makes a cocoanut avacado cinnamon banana mask for my hair as a deep conditioner
    It's amazing

    Hawaii is a part of the Polynesian triangle. I’m Tongan and also consider Polynesian. It is a cultural thing for the women to keep their hair long not just for the looks. There are certain occasions that they will have to cut it. Especially when one’s father pass away. Yes, we use coconut and kukui oil a lot but we also get it from the islands. Keep them in braids, bun or just leave it out. And of course minimal hair straightening routine with all type of chemicals. Very bad for the hair.

    I grew up using henna on my hair and then a few years ago I began using coconut milk with a scoop of henna powder mixed into it and sometimes with some honey. It helped me grow my hair down to my waist. I cut it off to above my shoulders at the beginning of 2020. I want to grow it back out now, I miss my long hair.
    Another thing you can do is buy a shower filter. If you live somewhere with hard water it can damage and dry your hair over time.

    I have type 4 hair and do a prepoo before I shampoo my hair. In a blender I blend a super ripe avocado, banana, couple tablespoons olive oil and honey and an egg. Leave it in for 1 hour then shampoo and condition. That's my pamper me time and it makes my hair super manageable and soft.

    So, I’m Hawaiian and I’m just gonna be honest with you… we don’t do ANY of the things you mentioned in your video. All of those things are just lies created by people who were marketing hair products and exploiting Hawaiians because we have long hair.
    We used coconut water hundreds of years ago as a natural shampoo, but we’ve been using regular old commercial shampoo for over a hundred years now and our hairs still long. We never did scalp brushing, or used kukui for hair growth, we OCCASIONALLY used kukui to get tangles out of our hair sometimes but it has nothing to do with hair growth, it was to get tangles out… we don’t have professional scalp massagers, again that’s just companies exploiting our culture to make themselves money, like Paul Mitchell, who is IMO the biggest offender of doing this when it comes to Hawaiian “hair products” or at least he’s the original offender. Anyone who is Hawaiian (as opposed to the many Asians and Caucasians who live here) can attest to the fact that we (as you mentioned for yourself) could not do scalp brushes because it would tangle our hair… girl I’ve broken brushes trying to brush my hair out, ain’t no way I could do a scalp brushing lol. We didn’t think of protecting our scalp and skin. We didn’t eat healthy so we would have long hair, we just ate healthy because colonizers hadn’t brought over unhealthy diets yet, our diet was natural back then, but now (for over 100 years) that we’ve been heavily exposed to an unhealthy “western diet” we don’t eat healthy anymore and our hairs still long.
    If you want the truth of why our hairs long, it’s because our hair is natural. We don’t use products on our hair, we don’t really die or bleach our hair, we just let it be, it’s casual here, people don’t fuss with their hair like they do elsewhere… we just throw it up in a bun and start our day. I can’t think of anything we do that makes our hair long… maybe because Hawai’i (& elsewhere in Polynesia) is humid that helps to keep our hair moisturized? Maybe the salt in the air from the ocean does something? Maybe swimming in the ocean frequently helps? I don’t know, but we’re not actively doing anything to make our hair long. I’ve NEVER done anything you’ve mentioned and I don’t know anyone who does any of that… yet my hair is waist length (it was past my butt but I cut it 2 or 3 weeks ago).
    Honestly, I don’t really understand what people mean when they talk about our hair being so long, we just leave our hair alone and it grows… is that not the case with everyone else??? I’m not saying that to be rude, I’m genuinely curious, does other peoples hair stop growing at a certain length? Does it break?

      As a Mexican/White woman married into a Hawaiian family with happa babies Hawaiian hair is thick and strong. The strands are like rope compared to Mexican and white textures. Our hair snaps and frays under half the pressure and environmental conditions. The cuticle is very thick and tightly sealed to withstand saltwater and the Hawaiian diet plays a huge role. Even when colonized food ruined the healthy diet allot of the foods on the islands are very nutritional for hair growth. The woman and men in my family do fuss over their hair. They have taught me recipes the eat and use topically to strengthen and grow my hair. One uncle has better hair than everybody and says it's cause he only uses homemade shampoo. Although no one in the family uses coconut and says it's even drying to the hair. Life style is a huge part too. Going hunting, getting sweaty, gardening and even hanging out together are all things that improve the skin and hair.

      Tutu lady also used kukui, Papaya, guava and banana in her hair as a mask

    • @The.Hawaiian.Kingdom
      @The.Hawaiian.Kingdom ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@amandaswanson2417
      Neither papaya, guava nor banana are native to Hawai’i, all of those were brought over by colonizers/plantation owners, so I’m sorry to contradict you (even though you did so to me) but those are definitely not part of our culture as a hair growth treatment (or in any regards) because they haven’t been here that long & therefore our ancestors were not using them. I’m going to assume your husband is not pure blooded Hawaiian (100%), he likely doesn’t even have much Hawaiian ancestry at all, if any & the hair treatments his family is using were introduced from the other ethnicities he is mixed with, possibly the Philippines, as I’ve seen filipinos use hair treatments containing fruits quite frequently before, but again, I’ve never seen Hawaiians or any Polynesians do so & considering I’m Hawaiian, Samoan and Tahitian and you’re not Polynesian at all, I’m going to have to say I’m a more credible source on MY peoples history and traditions than someone who isn’t Polynesian.
      As for diet, unless someone lives on Moloka’i or Ni’ihau (the smaller & less populated islands) the overwhelming vast majority of people are eating a western diet, they aren’t hunting and gardening, anyone who lives here, Hawaiian or otherwise, or anyone who has moved here or even visited here, can attest to that… no one has time for that on the more populated islands (where 95% of the population lives), everyones too busy working multiple jobs just to barely scrape by because of outsiders moving here & raising the cost of living. The only hunting and gardening being done is as a hobby in whatever spare time we have, not to supplement our diet, those days are LONG gone for most people & that is why Hawai’i is infamous for being reliant on imports, because we don’t hunt and garden. So even if we factor in nutrition on small sparsely populated islands, the fact that most people are eating a western diet yet still have long hair, proves it’s not something in our diets. Also I have family on both Moloka’i and Ni’ihau where my family hunts and gardens and no one in my family does any hair treatments… and I’ve always been known for having the longest, thickest, hair in my entire family (including extended family obviously), despite growing up on O’ahu & Maui.
      I’ve only ever had my hair, so thank you for sharing that other peoples hair isn’t as thick and strong as our hair, but again, I’m sticking to what I commented before, I don’t use any treatments, I don’t know any Hawaiians (or other Polynesians) who use them and I don’t see what in our diet could be different considering we live off of western diets for the most part.
      PS: hapa only has one P in it.

    My family is from Puerto Rico, and we have the coarse curls, but I have started using this shampoo and conditioner called Maui. Omg, it has the kakui oil in it, but first ingredient is aloe. Amazing. I have started doing straight aloe masks (sometimes mixed with coconut oil) 2x a month along with the aloe/kakui oil hair products and my curls are fabs. I remembered you saying keep trying new things until you find what your hair loves, and for sure, aloe and coconut oil did it. I finally saw hair growth! Thank you so much for sharing your insight. Coconut milk and avocado is excellent, no hyaluronic acid (sorry I cant spell it) but I wouldn't put it anywhere near my hair there's other natural ingredients to use to cleanse and clarify

    • @ANGIEBEE
      @ANGIEBEE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing, hyaluronic acid is actually a natural ingredient our body's naturally produce as well and it is a hydrating ingredient. It does not cleanse or clarify hair. 💖
