  • If you were thinking about getting a resonator ukulele, here is a comparison between a normal tenor and a resonator tenor ukulele.
Kala tenor resonator tuned GCEA with a low G ( Savarez) with a Worth G. Kala tenor ukulele tuned gCEA with a high G - all strings are Aquila. Have a listen, your comments would be appreciated.

Yes, but that is how I chose to have them set up. It is still a pretty true comparison. I think the low G means the tone is not too "ringy" if you understand what I mean.

Seems to be quite a bit of vibration in the resonator beyond what I expected. Preferred the regular uke. Thanks for the comparison.

Would be more helpful to have them tuned the same.

Initial thought: First one sounds fantastic.
Second thought: Second one sounds fantastic also!
Third thought: Wait a minute! He could make my ukulele sound fantastic too!
😤 Rats! It’s not the ukulele! I need to practice more!

Well done, Pop Corn, keep practising it's the road to success. It's a good time with many people in lockdown.

Leave it to Hawaiians to invent the most polite and laid back instrument on the planet.🙏

The regular Uke sounds cleaner and clearer, but that Resonator might be good for lead and accompaniment .

Comparing the two with one low g and the other high g isn't a comparison of the ukuleles.

Been looking at getting a Goldtone BU1 concert banjo uke. A resonator uke seems to add a similar punch. What do you think the significant differences in sound and playing between the two. And would you recommend a low G on both? Thank you

I've not really considered a banjo uke myself. It really depends the sort of music you want to play. If you're mainly strumming, I would have reentrant tuning, but you're using some sort of picking, then a low G would be good I think

Another review on youtube of the Kala resonator said it was too bright. Do you find that to be the case? Like you I am looking for a uke to play blues on. Thanks

I hope you can tell from video. The resonator gives it a "punchy" sound so I think it is good for blues. I read the other review as well, but it did have a high G. This prompted me to fit a low G, so it is less bright, and good for finger picking. Just as resonator guitar is good for blues, so is the ukulele resonator. Go for it, and good luck

I have one and have just put steel strings on. Low G

I'm not sure you should do that, steel strings exert more pressure on the neck than nylon strings. It could cause you problems. Check with a luthier

Since they aren't tuned the same... not very helpful
