The thing is, Magneto didnt just EMP the whole world, he wrecked the planets magnetic field, which is the only thing keeping solar radiation from destroying the planet's atmosphere and turning Earth into another Mars. Magneto just plans to get all the mutants that will agree with him off-world and leave everyone else to fry.
which is quite brilliant plan since Magneto needs to be alive to get things back to normal. Which means no one will try to kill him, except someone who has telepathy and can force him to correct the magnetic field, even shortly before he dies. (And any telepath who intends to take control of him must first remove his helmet.
Good luck with that when Magneto is on his station in space, unless someone has a rocket that's not made of metal just lying around)
I am wondering if they will bring in Lorna/Polaris to see if she can reverse or fix what her Father did.

Magneto ripping the adamantium out of Logan was metal, no pun intended. And the fact that it ended on that scene. This is one of the greatest masterpieces Marvel has EVER done. I can't wait to see how they bring it all together in part 3.

Magneto’s Helmet didn’t ALWAYS block Charles’ telepathy! In fact, if you go back to the original 92 series, Charles can do it without an issue.
The origin of this characteristic, believe it or not, was the 2000s movie! Not even the comics! It’s so odd since it makes so much sense in retrospect, and all the media started to run with it.
There IS an instance of a helmet blocking his telepathy earlier than that though. Charles’ half-brother Juggernaut!
Also, 12:50 yes, Cable is an incredibly strong telekinetic… but the technorganic virus hes infected with threatens to take over his body. He is constantly using his powers to keep it at bay, hence why he usually resorts to Big F*cking Guns
You're partly right; in the original series, it offered him protection to an extent: he couldn't be found with Cerebro (that was the whole point of him attacking the chemical plant, because it would attract their attention), and it kept Xavier from getting into his mind to a degree. Xavier couldn't have forced him to do anything, like he does here, but he COULD bring back those traumatic memories and basically give him a PTSD flashback.

Fun fact: Magneto's helmet blocking psychic attacks was an idea that originated in the movie X-Men (2000), and has since been adopted into the comics and other forms of media.

@@mangareader7474 Oh yeah, Magneto could do all sorts of stuff in the comics; fly to the moon by himself, without the aid of a craft, completely alter the the entire Earth with an electromagnetic pulse he generated. Hell, the helmet used to be able to GIVE HIM psychic powers, to an extent.
14:43 - And that is Cable NERFED due to the Techno-organic virus he's afflicted with actually dampening his psionic abilities greatly to the point he can only really use them for big blasts like this. In an alternate timeline where Cable wasn't affected by the virus, his psionic powers grew and exceeded those of his mother and Jean Grey. There was virtually nothing he couldn't do with that much power, including beating the living snot out of Apocalypse and due to being quite hot-blooded, ended up dooming the planet to a fiery extinction because of how insanely strong his powers had developed.

@@sebastyann123 Regular Cable ain’t stronger than Jean you are correct which is why I said he’s a “nerfed” Cable, as in alternate timelines where he isn’t infected with the Techno Organic Virus, he grows up to be so much more powerful than his mother, Jean, Professor-X and Emma Frost (minus power ups from other sources).
Alternate Cable was strong enough to easily hand Apocalypse his ass along with his horsemen, and then cause the end of the world due to how insanely powerful he wound up becoming.
Regular Cable can never reach that same height due to the virus in his system restraining his telekinetic abilities, as even Mr.Sinister knew he needed to dampen Nathan’s powers in order to control him because of the sheer power potential he held.
The only people who can effectively counter an untainted Cable are reality warping beings like Franklin Richards and such…So yeah I’d say “nerfed” is a good word to describe Cable when it comes to his actual mutant powers. Side from that he’s a goddamn badass of a soldier through and through.

@@priyanshipatel1467 So we’re in agreement then because that’s what i was saying from the start - that 616 Cable is nerfed thanks to the techno organic virus, and that Nate/Nathan Grey (doesn’t matter name wise as they’re the same person just different circumstances) from the alternate timeline where he wasn’t infected is drastically superior in terms of sheer power, though he lacks Cables wizened experience and upbringing and is more a hot headed loose cannon who isn’t afraid to just wreck whole armies in an instant because he woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning.

You know, when they were picking teams for this mission, I found myself thinking, "Maybe they shouldn't send they guy whose skeleton is covered in metal to fight the guy whose power is magnetism. Maybe, just maybe, it would be better if he went with the other group." I feel like I've been proven right.

16:43 - This show has pieced together and adapted many 90’s X-Men (and 80’s and Modern) stories: Fatal Attractions, Operation: Zero Tolerance, The Mutant Massacre, e is for extinction (Grant Morrison’s 2001 arc), Inferno, Uncanny X-Men 185 (Storm depowered by Forges invention), and more!
Those were the greatest runs of X-Men I have ever read. I collected all the crossover issues for Fatal Attraction with the holographic pics on the covers.
Slight changes here, like it was funeral of Illyana Rasputin (Colossus' sister) when Magneto poached various X-Men to his side, and the pacifist Colossus went with him.
In the fight on Asteroid M, Wolverine almost got the best of Magneto so that's when all the Adamantine was pulled out. That set Prof X off and finally used the nuclear option to Wipe Magneto's mind.
Every scene was more intense then the last. That they did just as well here as the comics!!
The wolverine thing happened in the Fatal Attractions story line basically panel for panel. I couldnt believe they actually went there. These guys totally understood the assignment!!
In the image it looked to me like the metal was taken out in fluid form, was that what was done in the comics, and what do you think about how it looked here? When it started I thought for sure he was going to take it out in skeleton form, just pull it from the front, through the skin and whatever organs.

You did seem to have a fucked up intragroup dynamic where all the mean jokes where almost exclusively directed at him, the one that didn't knew how to take it without feeling hurt, which it was uncomfortable to watch at times (I've literally had to leave vids because I hate when uncouncious group behavior makes bullies out of seemingly good people) so I'm glad for all of you.

Huge x-men comic fan - a main reason why 97 is so good is because it hits the heart of the comics perfectly. If you love this, you’ll love the x-men comics especially from the late 70s through the 90s and various runs after that!
Also this episode borrows heavily from the storyline “fatal attractions” from the 90s, marvel recently reprinted that story as a trade paperback if you’re looking to jump in somewhere
This episode is truly remarkable, and the action is masterful! THAT ENDING WAS INSANE ASF!!!
While I do understand Charles's reasoning for giving Magneto the mansion, the man still neglected his students and pupils. Look where they are now: on the brink of war, he's lost two team members to Magneto (Rogue quite literally went rogue)and Magneto's line: "God's abandon those who believe in them" is such a powerful line. I love how Storm and Jean see each other as sisters, and their bond together is really wholesome. That line: “Make them mind your weather, sister. And them weather your mind" is such a good line!
I find it interesting that Bastion still loves his mother despite what he did to her and turned her into a sentinel zombie, which makes me think he's not as emotionless and robotic as we were made to believe since he is part human. It's scary how powerful Bastion is, considering he's basically a one-man Sentinel factory.
Nah, the animation in this show is PHENOMENAL AND GIVES ME MAJOR ANIME VIBES, I LOVE IT!
You can tell Magneot has been wanting to say "SHUT THE F*** UP" to Charles for a while, and that alone is hilarious!

I’m really impressed by the amount of crazy events that take place in X-Men ‘97! With a lot of the episodes we’ve seen, there’s just one surprise after another and this episode throws us several curveballs from the classic costumes, Morph turning into the Hulk to Magneto ripping the adamantium from Logan’s body. This show is crazy good!
Okay, It did happen in the Books, and Wolverine suffered for some time after this.
Ruff's reactions are an absolute joy to watch. You can tell he's invested and the fact that he isn't as familiar with the material just makes his concern even more pronounced XD

2:18 when they say the world will end in 12 hours they mean, Congratulations Magneto, you are potentially killing billions, humans and mutants alike in 1 of 2 ways
1) the magnetic fields keep out excess solar winds. The lack of field could lead to all the atmosphere on earth being stripped away by these winds
2) the magnetic fields disappeared means lots of temperatures rising and all that yummy radiation getting in. Everyone could literally be cooked alive

That's why one people's villain is another people's savior.
Example: Moses certainly was a savior to the jews in Egypt. However, the innocent Egyptian subjects of Ramses equally certainly saw him as a mass murdering villain, given all the plagues, including the direct killing of all Egyptian first-borns.
What makes the moral situation even more difficult is the fact that Magneto doesn't act on the basis of pure ideology but on the basis of repeatedly(!) made personal experiences with humans - remember Valerie Cooper's monologue to Bastion in the last episode!
How is a person supposed to react to barely surviving 2(!) genocides, caused by humans, especially after he openly tried to take the peaceful road?
When does the reluctance to effectively stand against the constant genocidal attacks from humans turn into complicity? (I'm asking you, Charles!)

This show, 97 and the 90's series, is a very close condensed adaptation of the X-Men comics. This season alone adapts several 80's to 90's books and even some of the 2000's. There's a lot of places you can start. Chris Claremonts Uncanny X-Men you can pick up in huge hardback omnibus editions or paperback epic collections. New X-Men and House/Powers of X are also good entry points you can read from there. Both as paperbacks and omnibus's.
This ending was how X-Men #25 ended. With us reading how Magento ripped the metal from Logan body. You have to wait a well. Imagine having to wait a month? I did, I was there.

Charles' explanation of Scott and Jean graduating reminds me of when Claremont tried to retire Cyclops. That's NOT AT ALL how discrimination works. You don't graduate from your powers, nor from being the victim of racism.
Is it just me, or did this episode give me a lot of Infinity War vibes? Like this had a lot more WTFs in this single episode alone than the Genosha episode had 😱

I was really hoping they would go with either the unused Alex Ross costumes or the John Cassaday costumes but it is cool to see the very iconic Chris Claremont uniforms from the 70s and 80s.
You're sort of right Boom. Universal owns the distribution rights to Hulk and I think Namor (I can't remember if it's Namor or Silver Surfer) so Disney can't make a Hulk or Namor/Silver Surfer movie without giving a hefty chunk to their competitor.

Cable uses his telekinesis to keep his technoorganic virus at bay, he is a stronger telekinetic than jean. And its weird how jean never uses her telepathy in the fight considering that's her strongest power. Magneto can control his bloodflow, he doesn't die from that little damage

For starting "Modern" Xmen, I'd highly recommend looking up the "Krakoa Era" its a recent era of Xmen comics that just ended and it is largely being toted as one of the greatest eras for Xmen ever. Some of the events in this show like the Fall of Genosha were inspired by the events of Krakoa.
Start with house and powers of X. From there hit up a reading list and enjoy.
But, if you want a real treat, start with house of M. All the way up.
For the full Monty, start with uncanny Xmen #322 and the start of Onslaught, heroes reborn and zero tolerance.

Grant Morrison's New X-Men,2001 "E is for Extinction" is a fucking wild ride and a great little story to pick up that has ties to this series and the upcoming Deadpool movie.

Granted, I think Logan will live through this one. He’s survived worse, plus his healing factor still applies. The adamantium skeleton was just fused on during the whole Weapon X thing.
So, yeah. Logan will likely live, but he’ll be powerless.
"Powerless" with an improved healing factor (The adamatium poison Wolverine but his healing factor keep it at bay) and like 105libs less wich makes him a lot more agile. Also Bone claws are no joke, he cant rip tru metal, but no one can take tree horns in the chest and survive and is kinda the same

The brown/House of X Wolverine suit & Cyclops' Astonishing suit were always my favorite designs, so you can imagine how excited I was when I saw them! Also, that "black leather" line was absolutely perfect!!

What gets me SO FUCKING HYPED is that Kevin Feige is taking notice of how much everyone is loving the show so he knows he’s got some big expectations to fill bring them to the MCU; they are going to make the xmen and mutants the center of things after secret wars so if this is ANY indication of what we have to look forward to im excited
I have a sneaking suspension that it's going to be up to storm to fix the earth's mangnetic field. In the comics she's so powerful she can terraform and change the entire atmosphere of planets like she did on Mars or when she manipulated Earth's atmospheric pressure to be like jupiter to hold Thor in place.

YES. The comics as just as good as the show. If you want you could start by Giant-Size X-Men (1975) #1: the introduction to Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler to the team. Or start by Uncanny X-Men #101; the begining of the Phoexin storyline. That way you wouldn't need to go back to issues #1.
If you guys are serious about recommendations on where to start the comics, I would probably recommend starting with X-men Vol 2 (starting in 1991) issue 1 and this coincides approximately Uncanny x-men (the original comic series) #270. This era fits most with the 90s show and cast (shortly after the addition of gambit to the team). Good place to start, but there are individual story lines prior to this that are classics and worth checking out (ie Dark Phoenix and Days of Future Past among others).
As long as Storm can swim, she should be okay. If not, then maybe a NAMOR (cameo) will save her. Jean will turn into the Phoenix proven that she not her clone was the Phoenix. Wolverine will heal himself and be left with bone claws and an even more feral attitude. Forge will simply eject from the plane.

Of course the x-men comics are like this, this and the 92 series were mostly adapting iconic moments from various 90s comic runs, comics are awesome like anything there’s some better than others but in general the medium has a lot of talented people and cool characters and concepts trying to give it a go at reading them is some well worthy, you don’t need to read every comic tho just find a few runs for a character you like and start reading.
The best place to pick up the comics for purposes of X-men '97 is at the relaunch in the 1991 of X-men #1 with art by Jim Lee that inspired the animated series. Issue #1 is probably the most read X-men comic in the entire history of xmen as it was everywhere to hype the coming animated series. The team was split between Uncanny X-men and the new book, just X-men, and thus the blue and gold teams were born. Chris Claremont, who has more X-men lore to his name than anyone else, had written Uncanny X-men for the previous 16 years and the animated series treats a lot of the Claremont stories as a canonical past for the characters. Although we do get some Claremont stories in the animated series like Storm losing her powers. But if you start at the relaunch it will all feel very familiar.
The problem i have with this episode is that there were so many things that the writers clearly wanted to do in terms of plot points, that they had to make the characters make a lot of bad, unreasonable decisions.
If you're interested in reading comics, but you want something familiar, start with X-Men #1 from 1990 (there has been multiple #1s). The cartoon was modeled to these comics, and lead to similar storylines.
Of course, there are things that did happen before (like the Phoenix Saga), but it's a good entry point for those familiar with the show. Afterwards, if interested, you can go back.
The season 2 is already done and they are curently working on season 3. So it shouldn't be that long of a wait.

Well, you have two options. The first is to go historical. The 90s Chris Claremont run is probably the most similar to the show, so you can find collections online. Pick a storyline that looks interesting and buy that collection.
Or, start reading the modern comics. The X-Men just had a major paradigm shift that was very similar to the destruction of Genosha in the show and so most of the comics are starting fresh. It's actually a perfect time to start reading them.

This cartoon is just a condensed remix of the stories from the comics. The actual comics are much better, but the cartoon does a good job.
If you want to start reading X-Men comics you need to start with _Giant-Size X-Men #1_ from 1975 (the year before I was born) which introduces the New X-Men team after most of the originals left; Cyclops (the original member who stayed) the Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus, etc. It's a one-shot special that leads into _Uncanny X-Men #94_ which continues with the New X-Men team and starts the legendary writing run of Chris Claremont with the Proteus arc, the Phoenix Saga, and all of the famous storylines that were used to create the cartoon series. The late '70 though the '80s _Uncanny X-Men_ comics are what turned the X-Men from a _reprint comic published every two months_ to the best-selling comic book in the entire industry.
As for where to start reading X-Men there's a lot of options:
You could start from the beginning with Stan Lee writing in the 60s
a lot of the stuff from the og animated series was based off of Chris Claremont run form the 70-80s, started with GIant Sized X-Men
For me personally I started after Claremont's run ended (I plan on going back to read that).
I started with the 90s X-Men. LeagionQuest that went into Age of Apocolypes.

Indeed, the helm prevents Charles from using his powers on Magneto, if he needs to he can also use it as a weapon since it's still metal. His space city is Asteroid M, basically Magneto's personal space station.
Magneto does make valid points no doubt, but it kinda becomes less compelling considering how he fucked up the entire planet's magnetic field mid-leaving. Not everyone is against mutants and as Charles points out by doing it he's put a timer on mutant and humans alike to be subject to a pretty brutal death.
Yes the black leather is a reference to the live action movies, while the costumes the X-Men don are older comics incarnations too, Sunspot and Rogue are also wearing comics-accurate outfits, while Cable is wearing his Marvel vs Capcom 2 outfit.

Storm is super op her powers have no limit and because nature is always changing so is she but I had no idea she could sense and control magnetic fields makes sense tho
If you want to start reading X-Men there are some starting points. You could go very modern and start during the Krakoa age, thats what I did.
I would recommend going with New X-Men from Morrison, I have some reservations but it is a common starting point and you will benefict from more modern storytelling.
You could also start more at the beggining, that is starting at Giant-Size X-Men and go to the Claremont run in 1975. I dont think Claremont starts great, he is good, but he gets better and better until he becomes great.
Claremont is the one who basically defines the X-Men, having the longest run in superhero comic history, he is also a great place to start if you can get through the beggining.
The reason basically no one will reccomend you start with the original X-Men comics is because, honestly, they are not very good. There is some good stuff later on, but you will lose interest before getting to it.
Those are my recomendations as someone who decided to read basically everything X-Men (I started in December of last year and now am reading X-Men from 2009, but I do read a lot)
