- It's a question we are asked regularly. How to drive a narrowboat in reverse. So, during our canal ride to Cheddleton on the Caldon Branch of the Trent & Mersey Canal, Colin demonstrates how he drives the boat in reverse.
We moor over not one, not two, but THREE aqueducts before heading south east towards the Cheddleton Flint Mill and the Churnet Valley Railway before mooring overnight at the Boat Inn at Cheddleton.

The last time I was in the UK in the winter and it was cold like where you were, I set off walking to the nearby pub but got too cold to make it. So I especially like being able to enjoy the wonderful winter scenery from the comfort of my sofa, thank you.

I love this canal. And the flint mill museum is really fascinating. My grandmother's house in rural Aberdeenshire backed onto a water mill that milled oats and, on the other side of the wheel also drove a saw mill. I used to love watching the great wheel turn when the mill was working. But that was a long time ago! Anyway, Happy (and healthy) New Year to you both!

I think you probably know already as you do quite a bit of delving for vague facts, but as you say the lake wasn't named after Rudyard Kipling but Rudyard Kipling was named after the lake as his father John Lockwood Kipling courted his mother Alice Kipling (nee: MacDonald) around Rudyard Lake. PS .Did you know that Silver fox was the trade mark (Emblem)of (Samuel Fox Stainless steel) of Stocksbridge Works Sheffield and the Loco was named after the company.

Travelled to England years ago, and stayed at a charming pub just outside of Oxford (called The Dog House). I remember early morning walks with the sun coming up through the fog and mist on the narrow roads. ...so beautiful. Your vlogs of the canals always remind me of the peace of those experiences. About half a mile after Duke's Cut.
Really enjoying the journey up the Caldon. Very brave to do all that reversing. (I wind further on at the boat club.) You mentioned the revised canal route. The house for sale at Park Lane faced the old line - so has its back to the present canal. Sorry if you miss the river, that and Consal Forge are magical, not to mention the steam trains.
Hmmmm... we’ll have to see what happens next week 😏

I liked the tidal Thames. I would still like to see you do the Kenet and Avon, and you could film trains there too as it does follow the railway quite a bit.
