Canakit Raspberry Pi 4 Unboxing and Initial Setup

  • The amazing folks over at CanaKit sent over their Raspberry Pi 4 Max kit for me to take a look at.
    The box includes:
    - Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Model B with 1.5GHz 64-bit quad-core ARMv8 CPU (4GB RAM)
    - 64GB Samsung EVO+ Micro SD Card (Class 10) Pre-loaded with NOOBS, USB MicroSD Card Reader
    - CanaKit Premiuam High-Gloss Raspberry Pi 4 Case with Integrated Fan Mount, - CanaKit Low Noise Bearing System Fan
    - CanaKit 3.5A USB-C Raspberry Pi 4 Power Supply with Noise Filter, Set of Heat Sinks, Set of 2 Micro HDMI to HDMI Cables - 6 foot (Supports up to 4K 60p)
    - CanaKit USB-C PiSwitch (On/Off Power Switch for Raspberry Pi 4)
In this video I do an unboxing of the Raspberry Pi 4 Max, put the Pi in its case and get it booted up for the first time.
Putting the Pi in the case and getting everything put together was super easy. I was able to power the included fan via pins 4 and 6 (5v and ground respectively) and everything fit like expected. The fan, even when running at full speed was pretty quiet, so there's not much concern for fan noise.
The initial boot sequence was fast for being a first boot and setting up the operating system via Noobs was easy enough for just about any beginner.
If you've got a Raspberry Pi 3 and want to upgrade, or if you're thinking of getting into the Raspberry Pi scene, the Raspberry Pi 4 Max kit from CanaKit is a great way to do either one.

I didn't show installing the heatsinks because it's literally just pulling the paper off them and sticking them on the appropriate places on the board. This has been mentioned probably a hundred times and I'm sick of people not reading the comments where this has been brought up a bazillion times.

    • @IGamingStation

Do you think the heat sinks are needed? I've looked it up and apparently, it seems pointless.

@@johnluxe6247 So if I don't do something exactly to YOUR liking, I'm doing it wrong? Got it. I can tell you that I've literally never had issues with not using heatsinks in daily-use activities on a Raspberry Pi. The fan in the case is more than enough to keep the device cool in the setup.

Trying to read those setup screens would be like trying to read black sharpie writing on a florescent tube bulb with the bulb turned on. Like staring into the sun, and you're not going to see the words at all. Like staring in to the sun. Dark theme all the time, every time, for visually impaired people. We couldn't use this.

If you are using a hat or something that plugs into those then there's a chance that a fan won't fit anyway. If a fan DOES fit, the accessory card will usually have a way to power the fan. Or, you could get creative with the whole thing and find a new way to power the card. They are MEANT to be tinkered with and new things tried on them. Also, the fan is entirely OPTIONAL.

The pi 4 generates more heat then the predecessors and is recommended to add the heatsinks, you can choose not too if you need to fit a specific dimension but they do not take up that much of space so if you are able to it is HIGHLY recommended for the longevity and performance of the device.

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Ok. Just stop for a second. Ipconfig is a Windows tool used to find the address of the Windows computer you are using. You CANNOT use ipconfig to find another device on the network. If you don't have a monitor, then you're going to have to plug a network cable into the Raspberry Pi and login to your router and find the IP address of the Raspberry Pi there. Even then, there's not much you can do with it unless you're setting your Raspberry Pi up as a server of some kind, but that has nothing to do with the microSD card that came pre-loaded with Noobs. Not much you can do at this point based on what you've told me.
