Please don't let my book discourage you from working on your own BOS! I started out with 1 subject notebooks and store bought journals. Heck, some people keep their book on their computer! You do what works for you, and if you want a book like mine, I know you can make it happen :)
I'm sort of in a middle stage where I can't decide between big grimoire stye like yours, or the bombay leather journal I'm currently using. Though it took me five minutes to memorize the calligraphy font that you and I use, even though I don't use it in my BOS.
+Phoenix Starfire Idk if this will help with your decision making; but I kind of have many Books of Shadows. My main one which I am making very detailed and cover a broad range of practices and such is meant to be passed down through the family. My Books of Mirrors is just a plain black journal. I have a BOS with the most common info and magick I can do anywhere that I keep in my purse. A tiny BOS with rituals and correspondences that I keep in my Travel Altar. A journal, that was my first BOS, is now my Record of the Gray Witch Path where I write the beliefs and lessons I've learned on this path. And I'm starting an Herbalism journal of 80 different herbs, how to grow them, parts used, their physical healing properties, and their metaphysical healing properties.

I haven't had the guts to actually write in my book yet! How silly is that! I have a picture in my head of how I want it to look but I know it probably won't turn out like that!! I just seem to be using it as a flower press because it's so big! I think I've been using my book of mirrors to practice my drawing and writing in! That is a lot of work for 6 years! I wish I could do a page a day and have them turn out that well!!
+Amethyst lol the page a day method only worked because I had time for it. I practiced my drawings first in a sketch book before I put them in my BOS. And I always doing everything in pencil in my BOS before I go over it in Sharpie pen (except for the writing because the style has become second nature, but I do use pencil to draw the lines so my text is straight and to chart where it's going to go). This makes it less stressful when working in my BOS because I know if I make a mistake or change my mind I can erase it until I'm happy with it :)
you have a wonderful BoS. I have such horrid hand writing. I have not practiced in nearly 15 years. All I have left is a DoS, and for those that are two young to remember 3.5 discs you have no idea. Anyway I feel it is now time to return, so I am embarking on a very new book and will be dusting off my DoS (disc of shadows) and re-beginning a new. Bringing back works that haven't seen the light of day in over 20 years.

I wish my writing were as neat! I do plan on transferring mine down to my kids as well, but I have never had neat handwriting no matter how hard I try or how slow I go 😿regardless, yours is a thing of beauty, very nearly an art piece! I'm envious of your natural talent for that, but to each their own. If everyone had as pretty writing as you, no one would be left to appreciate it!
Echo Kleist I have been a little envious of the people who decorate their BOS like a scrapbook with pressed flowers and scraps of paper with pictures and such. I've never been a scrapbooker and can't make the page look cohesive. So that's an option you could try, that way you can print out the text instead of handwriting it.
I'm not sure I could make mine super scrap book style: I will add the occasional drawing of an herb or plant, but in general, I do not add a ton stuff to mine...I am not sure I would have enough time to do something like that, but I am jealous of the amount of creativity everyone seems to have!
Gorgeous, gorgeous work! I'm especially enamoured with the borders and the all-black pages; very nicely done! I've been toying with the idea of buying a few fabric painting wood blocks (you get very pretty traditional Indian motifs here); and using those to make borders. Do you have any tips?

Liked and subscribed this was very lovely .! But I wish to know , how do you keep your book so organized . Like how you have your section for tools , what if you wish to add more but there is already section where you would have to write ?? That would be my issue .
Bobby Marcum I've been laying out the sections well before I wrote anything down. I've added and subtracted until I was for sure of what I wanted to put in there. I could always add information to the margins, but I feel it adequately covers everything. I know some people who change their minds often do better with a binder type of book so they can easily change and move around the pages.
What did you use for the illustrations? Is if color pencil? Also did you assemble the pages in yourself or purchase it? I ask because I love the color of the pages and want to know where to get them.
I used colored pencils and fine point Sharpie pen. The pages are aged parchment I found in the calligraphy section of Hobby Lobby. I sewed the pages together to form the book (which I made myself in its entirety) :)
Well it's VERY nice and I actually plan on binding my own book in the same way. What size was the paper you purchased? Doesn't one paper have to twice the size of the desired page size?
PandoraShade Yes, they were about 22"x8" before I folded them in half. I bought 250 sheets to be folded in half making 500 pages. Eoyin Hawthorn's channel has a step by step video series of the method of book binding I used.

+Chris Swinney That's a wonderful idea, but most witches would not be able to come due to air fares, jobs, families, etc. That's why TH-cam is such a wonderful thing! We can all connect to each other and share ideas all of the time and post them for the world to see. In fact, the internet is a major reason why/how Wicca, Witchcraft, and Paganism has spread as much as it has.
+Luna Anathena if not, you might be able to just glue the rope ends of your spine to the outside of the cover by untwisting them and covering them in glue before you put the leather over it. Although, it will probably leave bumps in the leather covering.

I keep a travel BOS, dream journal, meditation journal, my main BOS right now, and my first two which are spiral notebooks.

Some people type it up and cut out the pages to glue them in their BOS, scrapbook style.
what kinds of pens and markers or pencils do you use for your writing. I love it's look. seems to not splotch to much yet shows up very well.
I use fine tip sharpie pen for the text and the illustration outline, and I use colored pencils for the art.

How do you write so small? All I own are BIC cheap ballpoint pens and it makes me write really huge

What do you use to colour in your pages?
I first use pencil, then outline in sharpie pen, then color in with colored pencil.
