  • Carefree and fabulous spring, summer, fall or winter fashion cap that captures some serious 1970's vibe with the best of the Greek Fisherman and News Boy style caps that are always so popular. Welcome to your the DIY Tutorial for your new favorite cap hat! And the best part is that you can make this tried and true and tested on 100s of heads, yourself!! Over and over again, in lots of different fabrics and trims! Sewing hats is fun and this pattern is one that you can make all year round.
    This is a great style for every weather season. Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. I have made it in cotton, cotton/linen, heavy knits and polar fleece. In this video I will show you how to make it using simple washed denim in two shade, regular washed blue and black. I use a small piece of lingerie elastic to add a bit of flare to the part of the outside band that runs the span of the visor.
    There is a digitized sewing pattern is available for this cap on our website and on our Etsy shop site. The fee is nominal to cover the costs of digitizing and includes the pattern pieces including lining for the cap in three graded sizes (Small - 21.5 inches or 55 cm, Medium 22.5 inches or 57.5 cm and Large 23.5 inches or 60 cm) as well as a detailed how to instruction booklet that follows back to this video but shows pictures in two of the fabric choices, the denim and the red cord. You can print both from the comfort of your home choosing from two printer outputs, Letter paper or A4.
    Link to the pattern on the mad cap website is here ...

    The pattern is also available in our Etsy Shop which is www.etsy.com/ca/shop/Madcaphats
    The cap pattern shared in the video is our Medium Size which is the average woman's head size. Please pause the video to transcribe. I used graph paper in inches and in centimeter to help with the precision of this design. The curve on the top piece is done with a French Curve ruler so if you are in the fashion biz already use this to help with the top piece. Otherwise, enlarge the pictures of the pattern pieces and follow square by square.
    I use 1 inch wide or 25 mm wide elastic in the video, a 7 inch length. You can use narrower elastic however. Use a slightly longer piece for a larger fit and smaller length for a smaller fit. Just top stitch above the edge of the elastic inside of the back band once the hat is assembled to prevent the elastic from sliding upwards towards the top of the cap. The closer the elastic is to the bottom of the cap, the better the cap will fit on your head.
    Have fun with this cap. It will be your new favorite!

    hi tori :)
    another great video
    what's the most used tread size you use for your hats and what needle size type
    do you bother ever using top stitch thread? or just use the same thread though out ?

    • @madcaphats
      @madcaphats  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much!!! I use a poly thread by Cansew in Canada. I use the same thread for my top stitching and my needle size is just the general sewing one. It is called poly plus. I am sorry I am not a needle expert, I just use what the shop that I buy my supplies from sells me in bulk! Tori

    Can the boho cap be made and worn without the brim as a kind of a beret hat? Would it work and look ok?

    • @madcaphats
      @madcaphats  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes Ruth, just add the band section but without a visor! Cheers, Tori

      The outside edge of colored lines will be 1.25 cm seam allowance and inside edge or black line is for 1 cm, cheers, Tori

      Hi Janice. You need to click on one of the two paper size options and then the listing should show that you can add one to the cart. Trying to fix that the pattern shows unavailable until you do that. So sorry for the inconvenience, hopefully we will get this sorted out but if you pick letter or A4, you will see that the pattern is available.
