The only thing that bothered me is why the Go-Busters didn't help during the events of the Gokaiger being "defeated" by the Zangyack and Zangyack's invasion on earth by the end of the series.

As you so rightly said, this season uses a pirate motif, previous seasons have used Emergency Rescue (Kyuukyuu sentai GoGoV), Samurai (Samurai Sentai Shinkenger), Ninja (Ninja Sentai Kakurager and Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger), Angels (Tensou Sentai Goseiger), Magic (Mahou Sentai Magirenger), and many more.
