I always come to you for traditional South Texas recipes, especially when I’m missing my hometown of San Antonio. Thank you for preserving our culture.
These are my favorite cookie. They simply melt in your mouth. The only difference is everyone in our area of south Texas made an anise/cinnamon stick tea. I remember asking one of my beloved coworkers for the recipe because hers were the best meltiest light as air cookies and her reply was "first you take a can of Crisco and make sure it's pre-creamed, then you need a bag of flour..." and seriously I burst out laughing because I thought she was kidding. Nope. She really did mean it because the family recipes passed down all start that way when I have asked around. Pan de polvo is serious business in south Texas, but it is the best I've had. Even HEB bakery has really good pan de polvo. Gosh, I miss Texas. Thanks for the recipe!!!
Hi Melissa, My son Will be getting married next November and wants Pan de Polvo served at the reception. Your grandma's recipe will come in handy. I might be making these myself since I haven't found any here in Arizona as good as In the RGV. (I was born and raised in Edinburg and moved away recently. Sure do miss all the So. TX Mexican food.)
These look wonderful! My step mother makes these every Christmas and sells them as well! Do you have a good recipe for Marranitos ( the pig shaped molasses cookie) I LOVE those and they are hard to find baked just right. Would love to see that recipe here! Yumm! Thanks for sharing wonderful recipe

It’s a direct translation but it doesn’t make much sense. Short bread would be a difficult word to translate if you didn’t know short refers to shortening. Doesn’t sound too appetizing but it’s my fave! 🤠❤️

My former coworker would translate pan de polvo to bread of powder. He was a joker.
