    our son lives in Japan and before we went to visit he would just turn the laptop around basically without moving and could show the whole place.

  • @LindaTCornwall
    @LindaTCornwall 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    It turns off because you're pushing the draw back in fully and closing it. It's a grill you're supposed to leave it open a fraction to allow the heat to escape. If you didn't it would over heat and cause a fire, that's why it has the safety feature. :D Also it's pronounce Orange - Jean - a :D It cracked me up when you said jina hehe...

    Hi. From the future here. Just doing some quick exchange rate math, rent + maintenance fee in 2014 would have been around $1,070USD a month, but today it would be around $850USD a month. That is wild. Anyway, thanks for all the info. Planning a month long Tokyo stay, your channel has been a solid resource.

    Good luck with your new home in Tokyo! Omg that window scared the poop out of me. I love how the toilet paper roll works, kind of jealous. The apartment looks so much bigger and brighter, congrats! Have fun with your "Star Mode Mood Settings!" Beekee (Biki) is the cutest! I love following your guys through your life adventures. I had no idea you have to higher a realtor to find an apartment, I'm so used to doing everything on my own. Key money sounds silly, you think letting you live there is good enough. Bomb Insurance? Wow! A key/lock replacement free without having any of those, that's unfair! Having a Guarantor Company is a good idea, especially one that speaks English. Have a great time in Tokyo, I wish to you meet you both the next time I visit Japan. Thanks for sharing!

      @kydeanderic  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes your videos are quite informative and fun, love them all! Really!? I would love to meet with you both when I become a JET, roughly in 1.5 - 2 years so we'll see where you two are then. Gambatte! P.S. The costs of living in Tokyo are as high as I thought and higher so thanks for the insight to how much to save for apartment life.

  • @honestytoafault
    @honestytoafault 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    42c=107.6f wow! Also in America, a lot of places are now making it mandatory you have renters insurance if you rent an apartment from them. And most just to move in, it's 1st, last, and security deposit. so if your rent SF, CA is $1500×2=$3,000+ $1000=$4,000 to move in. And you may have to put down a deposit on utilities.so it's almost the same cost. You guys are great. Love the TOTO toilet!

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +shady Lnu Well, SF is a bit of an extreme example being one of the most expensive places on the planet, hahaha. But yea, point taken. -E

    • @honestytoafault

    From 39:00- this reminds me of looking for an apartment in NYC or in San Fran, with the Realtor helping you with the apartment. And the key money is very interesting bribe to the landlord. Insurance is is common pretty standard in the Western USA at least.

    Most Japanese don't own a toaster, they primarily use the grill to make toast and fish. Also, the cover on the grill (between the two burners) must be removed when the grill is in use. The manufacturers also say to fill the bottom of the grill with water when grilling fish or meat to cut down on smoke and burnt bits, maybe that would decrease the chance the grill turns itself off due to overheating. Hope that helps.

    cold air goes down and hot air goes up. the top floor there is a window ( if I saw it right) just leave it open, the hot air will go out. if not, open a small window on the down floor so cold air can get in and push the hot air up and out. ( don't do it to long, you can get ill of the breeze)

    (1:43) ドエル・プリムロウズ !! I found your old home (the Saitama one) on Google maps, and it curiously has ドエル・プリムロウズ floating above the roof.
    I thought at first, that someone called 'Primrose' must have lived there, and she'd tagged it on G maps, but now I've just noticed that it's on the nameplate for the whole dwelling. (D'oh!)
    Very engaging hour's worth of video, guys. Nuthin' I like better, than watching someone else having to move!

    Congratulation! This is the pretty neat place you found. Believe or not, Tokyo rent used to be more expensive than in New York, but now New York rent is a lot higher. They said that the average rent in Manhattan is $3.500- $4.000 for 1BR. BTW Napolitain is the spaghetti dish which was very popular in '60s and '70s in Japan. Basically it is the sautéed pasta with ham/sausage/meat, veggies and ketchup. Why ketchup? Because at that time you could not find any canned cooked tomatoes in Japan. It had disappeared in '80s because they wanted a real pasta not the cheap Japanese adaptation, but in recent years it made a big come back as older generations felt nostalgic about it. So you can find one @family restaurant type places.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      acatinny Good lord, the costs for NYC are insane. That's just not doable! Awesome background on napolitain pasta, we see it all the time but didn't know the history. -Eric

    I work for an insurance company in the states. Most of the apartment complexes recommend renters insurance, and a lot of the apartment complexes require proof that the leasee has renters insurance, and some require themselves as an additional insured on the renters policy to call in and get proof the policy is still in force.

      You're welcome! I'm just visiting for now. I'm considering the move, but it won't anytime soon. Right now I'm in Japan for 14 days. It's my first visit so I'm trying to cover as much ground as possible. It's been awesome so far.

    Can't believe how small the old place was, even for one person, never mind two. Love the vending machine at the new place as I am a fan of Boss Coffee and that Rainbow Mountain Blend would be my addiction. Hope you guys get to explore Ikebukuro as you're so close to it and its one of my fave places to poke around in. Sunshine City alone is amazing. New place is really nicer. Started LMAO when you said nothing happens in the bedroom despite the Super Sexy Star light. Totally blown away by the cost of setting up a place an apt. Thanks for the valuable info.

    Awesome video ! This new apartment seems quite a huge improvement in your quality of life, even though it's rather expensive. The detailed expenses in the end were very informative, now I know what to expect. I only saw a Kumamon towel, I was expecting more Yuru Kyara related items, shame :P Also, looking forward for that train video ! Thanks for sharing

    When you use any type of broiler, if you have it running for more than a couple of minutes, you need to keep it open a little bit. Also, it is really only suitable for things that need about 5 minutes under the flames before you open it. It isn't suitable for warming things up, for that, you are better off nuking it.

    I rent a 6,000 sq foot space w/ a basement & store front, loading dock and coach house with 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths & patio for 1,800 a month in Chicago- just for comparison. Btw that refreshing laundry smell is actually carcinogenic chemicals, mainly benzene and acetaldehyde

    • @Starry2000
      @Starry2000 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kyde and Eric It isn't really, I can believe him. I've been looking at properties lately and its closer to what he is saying. Not ghetto either, new housing areas (new middle class suburbs) in great cities. If you are dropping 1800 in rent you might as well buy one of the newer small mansions they are putting up and just travel as much as you want with the savings. I had that in the back of my mind the entire time while watching the video.

    Love your new "spacious" home guys !! Its near Tokyo , kinda, and is a lot more convenient to everything you need vs your loft ,ladder place!! That place really needed to go and go it did.....I'm not too surprised on the total cost for move in around your area and for your apt.....$5k total move in is about average for where I live in Pasadena , CA .......where average move in cost with good credit check is about $4k+ but of course u get a lot more square footage .....but really love how you guys work with such tight footage 👍👍

      @teddylieu3243 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey for having a Tokyo address next to your name in such a "desirable" part of Tokyo too is 👍👍 and again the apt is awesome for the price too IMO.....$1100 a month is soo doable with both your incomes!! Of course its the total move in cost dats really a shitter 😭

    • @teddylieu3243
      @teddylieu3243 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Big question is , how long will u guyz b at this apt til the need to move...... dependant on work and other factors of course....but I really hope u guyz call this new apt in Tokyo home for a wee bit ☺

    Nice video guys. Considering the location and apartment size, I thought your apartment is really reasonable. Our one-bed room in Boston was $1800/mo. Also my old student apartment in Tsunashima, certainly not in the central Tokyo, was about $800 and that was 20 years ago! Yes living in Tokyo is expensive like any other major cities in the world, but it seemed less expensive than it used to be on my recent trip.

    • @kydeanderic
