Dear Sir, If someone is not so good at sanskrit but is interested in reading the vedic scriptures.... Should he/she go ahead with english translated version? Will it be worth reading and if so then how should be the approach towards reading these ancient gems, please reply sir. Thank you!!
Well, knowing Sanskrit is not enough to read the Vedic Scriptures since the language has undergone modifications since the Vedic Age. Besides it is deeply symbolic and contains profound mystic elements which cannot be decided by word meaning alone. Therefore unless one wants to be a serious lifelong student dedicated to the study of the Vedas, it is good to make a start with the writings of Sri Aurobindo on the Scriptures such as The Secret of the Vedas, Isha Upanishad, Essays on the Gita. Later you can decide if you want to do a detailed in-depth study or not.
Sri Aurobindo's books such as Essays on Gita, Isha Upnishad etc. are originally written in english. But if one is not very comfortable with english, then translations are also available....(such as Marathi etc.) But before approaching these translations what caution one should take?
Reading the original is of course always best. Especially Letters on Yoga which are relatively simple. Other than that the only thing required is to read in quietude and pray that Sri Aurobindo and the Mother make you understand. Then one bypasses the language difficulty and the deeper meaning slowly emerges.
