What a privilege to see that many Avengers at one gathering . My Grandfather was a Seabee in the Pacific in WWII . He said they used to call these birds "beer haulers" It seems before refrigeration hit the islands , They used to fill the bomb bay with beer , take it up to about 15,000 feet for10 or so minutes and come back down (obviously) . Walla , ice cold beer . Thank you so much for posting several videos of these and the B25 on another video . God Bless

Hi. Avenger #95 (shown here) was the number of the plane my wife's uncle was shot down in. He was downed on June 20, 1944 in the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Flying off the USS Yorktown (CV-10) VT-1. He was the turret gunner (AOM2c).

I had a cousin that was a Avenger radio operator, so I have a deep appreciation for this aircraft. Edit: Thank you for posting.

So wonderful to see these planes in action instead of sitting in a museum. They have one on the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi and one at the George Bush museum in Texas.

Absolutely magnificent. Such a gathering of great beasts. And you captured them perfectly. It's like a collection of every paint scheme ever applied to an Avenger. My Grandfather was e Seabee in the pacific in WWII. He said if you saw the movie " The Fighting Seabees" with John Wayne, that was pretty much how it was. He said they used to call the TBM Avenger "the beer hauler". When the Seabees first landed, they didn't have any refrigeration. So they would pack the bomb bay with beer and get a pilot to take it up to fifteen to twenty thousand feet for about fifteen minutes and, wala, ice cold beer. Thank you for posting and God Bless from Florida. P.S. As my bumper sticker says on my truck "Real Airplanes Have Round Engines". Although I wouldn't kick a Merlin or even an Allison out of bed. lol.

It is at the Lasalle/Peru regional airport. It’s gotten bigger every year. If your a aviation buff, it’s a must. I was at this event, 50 feet away as they all taxied. Even though they all have the same engine, they all sounded different. Like each plane had its own personality.
