I own an 2009 Dorsoduro 750 and ride it everyday (my only mode of transportation). I absolutely love it and all my friends rave about how light it feels and how smooth it is. I've owed a LOT of motorcycles and the SMV750 is by far my favorite. Lightweight, torquey, great brakes, smooth, comfortable, wheelies, and destroys traffic. I catch myself checking out my own bike when I walk past it and people are constantly giving me compliments and asking questions about it. Best purchase I've ever made.
I've clocked up 10,000 k's on mine just now. The thing is uncomfortable on longer rides, overheats a little at the lights, and difficult to manage the engine braking at slow speeds. The stock sound is very nice, power when you want it and it pulls well in all gears. I find myself scraping my boots in the twisties and the traction control cuts the power back when you accidently lift that front wheel off. It also took me ages to work out how to turn the ATC off and change road mappings because the manual was vague about it. I dislike how the seat lock is on the rear fender as a tail tidy would have been a good look. It does turn heads though and always a good conversation piece. Nice review though, its hard finding reviews on this bike.
My 750 was an awesome bike, you can’t call it a supermoto but its a hypermoto class bike. Dorsoduros need aftermarket exhausts, shaves 10kg/20 lbs of it and wakes it up a lot.
I fell in love with the Dorso 750 when I saw someone riding it. Looks beautiful and sounded amazing with aftermarket exhausts. Some time later I purchased a new one. On the second day I want to go for a ride, would not start. Dealer takes it back, bad battery. Extremely poor gas mileage, I was getting around 22 mpg in the city and like 34 or so on the highway. It kept constantly overheating in hot weather, fan didn't help, new coolant didn't help, dealer didn't help. It became harder to start after a while, until it left me stranded. Turns out the starter motor died. The undertail exhaust is terrible, that thing burns your ass and thighs. Sold her after 5k miles and less than a year of ownage, no regret. The bike was fun when it worked properly, but it was a bad purchase overall.
To an extent yes, but not that much heavier. Something along the lines of the Highland 750 V2 Desert X would be perfect. A touch heavier, double the fuel capacity and increased oil capacity.
I have one it catches fire regularly sometime it even starts. On the rare occasion it's does run it amazing and you soon forget what a pain in the ass it is
I was very surprised riding it. The power was there, but never exciting to turn the throttle. The corner feel was stable, yet flickable. The bikes main issue is it fails to deliver on the motard category. It needs something to make it exciting, more power, less weight, quickshifter, etc. As it stands, there’s nothing to make it worthwhile purchasing over a more capable naked bike.
Yall just need to learn how to ride. This bike has tons of potential especially once you take the 30 pound cans off. learn to twist the throttle and ride it like a hooligan. This bike is a hooligan and may not be as nimble as a husky 701 sm which Ive owned but it is still a blast. Its a hypermotard. This bike is much faster than any supermoto as well. In a class of its own. Everyone has a different opinion and you cant please everyone. Sounds sexier and turns more heads than hy husky 701 ever did. Also this bike was never designed to be a supermoto...
If you want to feel a hooligan dorsoduro find a 1200, dropped about 30lbs. off mine and its a beast!!! handles amazing in tight twistys and will wheelie and powerslide out of corners like nobody's business, its a shame they quit making it.
I thought you were riding incredibly fast until I realised the wide angle lens was making everything look much faster. Would never ever get a Dorsoduro, though. It's a great bike, but has a small tank and for plonking around the city, there are much cheaper alternatives.
As an ex-owner of a Dorsoduro 750, the fact it's not a hooligan bike is not a good thing. That was the attraction of the old ones, certainly for me. It was fun everywhere, and wheelied whenever you wanted it to
As a mechanical engineer (what a redundant statement) I appreciate that they are built in order to give passable performance against poor noise and emissions regulation. What i appreciate more is how easy Motorcycle design engineers tend to make it to remove. They make it this way so that a more performance/noise oriented exhaust that is fit for use can be fitted easily
The weight is the one thing keeping me from getting a Dorsoduro, I love my light bikes, so much easier to filter around town where most of my riding is! Even a Nuda is lighter for crying out loud! Gorgeous bikes these, hell of a lot sexier in person I reckon, these big twin motard style bikes are some of the nicest things ever made, just a shame only 2 companies seemingly make them now.
Getting half way through this review it surprised me....my mate has a 1200 Dorso with a full arrow system and custom map and i can just about stay with him on my hyper 1100 evo sp which is extensively modded. This one almost looks pedestrian in comparison...maybe the 900 would get "woken up a bit" with a full system and custom ecu mapping....
good review, just bought a dorsoduro 1200, in the past had the KTM 950 supermoto and they are very different machines, dorsoduro much heaver and less nimble but better for sports touring if you know what your getting it's a great machine.
I tried one a few months ago aswell. It was nothing like I expected it to be. I was thinking that it would be like a Supermoto, but it just felt like a normal road bike, just as you said. It's just not a bike for me. Lacking power and too heavy. I really like the looks though!
Older KTM 990 SM would be a better choice, I have an SMT which I bought for touring reasons and the bike is still a hooligan machine, has a good 20 - 25bhp gain on the Doroduro I guess and probably lighter.
Hey ktm mate, I have 950 SM and I have been wondering how good is the wind protection on SMT? I'm about 190cm (6.23") would it work for me? I have tested gs1200, v-strom 1000 and gs800 but non of those really felt good for me, although v-storm was surprisingly good.
The stock windscreen is useless, I got a Puig one which is much taller but even at 6 foot it is slightly too short for me on the motorway. I've since gotten a screen extender off ebay and it is excellent. I did 800+ miles in Wales last year without the extender and it wasn't too bad really, the seat isn't brilliant probably isn't too different from the 950 I imagine. If I was going to tour Europe I'd probably splash out for more padding to be added or something more fancy.
My dealer had a sweet deal on a brand new 750 from 2016 7 months ago and I really wish I had known about this. I had only found out about the 900 a month after I got my 750. I am obsessed with the display. I could do without the colorway though.
I got bit mixed feelings about the 690's so close to a supermoto but not really, I'd probably equip it with all-road tires if I had one. 450 is the way to go if you really want a GOOD supermoto. If I'd go bigger than 450 and still want a supermoto I would rather pick the new Husqvarna 701 rather than going for older KTM 690's. Just me personal preference tho, not saying which is good or bad and what everyone should by.
i tried an XT660 once after riding my roughly 55bhp DRZ440 and was super unimpressed, i thought with it being a 660cc it would be like the 690 or similar to the DRZ but it wasn't, it was fatter, wider, stiffer, heavier and had no guts or torque just a bit of smooth mid range. It really shows you CCs mean nothing its all about that weight and power band. im guessing its similar between the ktm 690 and the dorso 900
LeOnMoTo XT660 is a tractor motor stock, I bumped my old one up to 720cc with a high comp piston, it used to pop 2nd up like it was nothing. Nowhere near the grunt of a 690 though
Twysted Throttle that sounds like it made a big difference, I’m definitely looking at a 690r or exc500 next, not sure since the DRZ is so reliable and I even have dirt rims. I probably won’t upgrade until my girlfriend can ride the DRZ since I can’t sell it haha I’ve put way too much money into my bike xD
I had a DD 1200 for a year. Now that was fun. I can't see a 900 version of it having enough power to be fun. Had the arrows system on it and it certainly made it sound awesome. Only 2 shit things about the bike. 1. The electronics were terrible. 2. Traction control turns on wheelie control by default.
Nice review. I was actually surprised to hear it's not really a hooligan machine, I was thinking it would be. My 17 Tuono is exactly that, I can't seem to keep the front tire on the ground with wheelie control off which is all the time. Lol even in 3rd gear 90mph it will pick it up with just throttle if wanted. Between the sound of that v4 and the performance I've never been on a bike that makes me feel as good as the Tuono does!
awdeveau The Tuono is not a hooligan bike, it's just a naked bike (a very good one at that). The seating position is wrong in my opinion for that type of riding.
I had the DD 1200. And that was a hooligan bike. Plus 3 teeth on the rear sprocket and it was so fun. 750 and 900 are nice they just don't have the power
Assuming you turned-off the Anti-Wheelie, right? It's on there and needs to be turned off to wheelie. It is a direct Hyper competitor (not a SM) - same ergos, similar power to weight (less, but in the ballpark), suspension and more. There's a pretty huge price difference too - spec for spec, Dorso is a better bike - if you don't care about $4K, sure, get the Hyper. Hypermotard 950 - 114 hp / 96 Nm / 178 kg Dorso - 95.2 HP / 90Nm / 186 kg (20 lbs of this are the cans - can loose 15 with aftermarket) For those asking why it's not as light as a Supermoto - it's because it's not a Supermoto - there are no 900cc SM's. The name Hypermotard is synonymous with Ducati but it can also perhaps be thought of as a class of bike - basically a SM on steroids (thus - "hyper") with more power and so a much higher road/track focus. SM's are light because they go on dirt and jump - 200lbs and 100HP is silly on dirt so these are more track-focussed. SM's are made for smaller tracks with dirt loops - so naturally a larger, more powerful one would be heavier and less dirt-capable. Jumping a 250 Kato is hard enough - try a Hyper on slicks! As for hooligan - I've seen some pretty nuts stuff on Hypers and Dorsos - so like always, it's down to the rider. If you would like to test the dirt capability of the bike, move 1 inch to the left and you'll be in it :-)
The Husky 701 engine is different to the 690 but it is based off the same motor. Less vibration, more power and allot of the internals are slightly different now with the 17 model. Fun bike though yeah I agree that it doesn't really feel like a proper supermoto.
Twysted Throttle Haha yeah can't help ourselves. I usually don't care just thought I'd let Tom know in case he didn't know already. Love your vids by the way 👍
OK maybe I don't want one, I'm looking for something light and loopy, smooth and easy to ride just isn't fun for me! Does sound good for a workhorse, but if you're looking for a workhorse I'm not sure Italians the best way to go! I have a vfr750 for that job, it's just not really fun to me! I did like the mt09, that was a great road hooligan, I've also ridden the smc690 which I was basically sold on, just found the gear lever was so thin I couldn't always get under it (easy fix) and I realised I'd have to get used to the narrow frame... after half an hour I was really feeling it!
actually the duro is just a motard. that’s it. i just picked up a 2020 and recently sold my sms 630 husky. aftermarket mufflers a must, low fuel lean emissions partial throttle can be fixed with a fatduc. mirrors throw away. tail tidy in the back too. i broke mine in the mountains of north carolina. true test will be tail of the dragon next week. photos.app.goo.gl/CJeK2fK3g6GkFDqHA
I watched many times video of seb but when scrolling in your channel i see the title rest and piece seb.i watched his last video i cant sleep for a 2 days.Sorry for that very very late moment.
Are you sure you're remembering the 690 gearbox right? mine is clunky with long shifts and false neutrals if you dont smack it into gear firmly. Nearly impossible to clutchless shift safely due to the long throw and notchiness.
I think it is an amazing looking bike. I'm pretty sure they were going for the ducati hypermotard look. But i have met a person that has had alot of problems with his. But thats just one person. So i would be willing to ride one.
1066Rider sorry for the misunderstanding. I was referring to aprillia and some of the electronic flaws. And snowcat needs to be in my daily routine again. Have a good day.
based on this review, it seems like there's no reason to buy the dorsoduro over the shiver. the shiver has one more tooth on the front sprocket, and smoother fueling, which would make it better for commuting. so if this bike isn't good for anything other than commuting, why would anyone want to buy it over the shiver? although, i think it is a bit lighter.
Good Video. This bike is insane!!! :) But I was wondering if you could help me, because I cannot find the information anywhere. I am seriously considering buying this bike, but where I live there is not a single one for test drive. Only the old 750 version of the Dorsoduro. The question is: Could the exhaust pipes, burn the passenger's legs? I ask you this because in the 750 it gave me the impression that it did. Could you comment on this, please? I would be very thankfull, since there is not a lot of information outthere regarding this amazing bike. Thank you so much. Cheers from Portugal - Azores islands
Only the 2017 upwards husqvarna 701 gets the new ktm 693cc engine. KTM 690 smcr is discontinued/still sold with the old engine. and it weights around 147 kgs stock with only 2 litters of fuel. So a fully mod'd 701 , lithium ion battery , carbon wheels , titanium header and exhaust and you are looking at 137 kgs at least. still 20 kgs heavier than a 450 supermoto. But bloody light weight for a street bike with 70 hp and 80 Nm of torque.
But 701 has 1 litter of extra fuel (hence the added weight , 12 litters vs 13 litters) 693 cc vs 690cc , 2 counter balancers vs 1 counter balancer. 73 hp to the crank vs 69 hp to the crank. What is your point?
Air Doctor my point is you’re comparing a fully modded 701 (with the new engine) with carbon wheels and shit and saying it’s lighter than a stock 690, no shit. Having ridden them back to back, the 701 is less performance/handling focused and more road/comfort focused. The rubber mounted bars killed it for me
what is wrong with you? where did I ever mention stock 701 is lighter than stock 690? Read , jesus. Have you ridden the new 2017 701? Did you even read the differences between the two bikes? ciao.
When he saw the god he would whisper all the good you did throughout his life and whisper to him that you were his most kind friend.BTW nce video men.goodluck
dallpall69 The turn in is very similar to my old EBR, that’s the only similarity. Considering that’s what Buell products are known for, it’s great to see Aprilia nailing the corner feel.
I know it's probably just me but I have been watching motovloggers for over 10, or who knows how many years. Since the beginning (M13 and et al) and probably before you little kids had access to the Internet from your parents. These days they mostly just suck. Riding With Tom (along with M13 as delusional and crazy as he is these days) is within the top 5 that I still watch when a video is posted. In fact, I can't even think of 5 motovloggers that I still watch when a video is posted. With that said, you can't say a bike is "good" until you have owned it for at least a year. Aprilia, Ducati, KTM, all Euro bikes . Yeah, they don't fair well over the long term, not at all.
Absolutely. Now prove that KTM or *Triumph* (sorry, I sprayed too early) is better than BMW, or fucking *Honda*, or Yamaha... or even that baby company with the stupid insurance Suzusuki. Sorry, you're not ever going to get there. Trust me, I had a Suzusuki once, it was stolen 5 times and I had to pay $1000 AU just to get rid of it.

Aprilia should do a new and more streetable SXV 550 :(
I'mRinoX yeap 👍
Maybe with the next 660 engine parallel twin… but I don’t hope to much since sportive engine are very different to supermoto engine…
I've clocked up 10,000 k's on mine just now. The thing is uncomfortable on longer rides, overheats a little at the lights, and difficult to manage the engine braking at slow speeds. My hope is that one day Aprilia can remake the RXV/SXV550 but in a much more reliable package. Would buy the bike ASAP!
That would be amazing, very unlikely but amazing if they could pull it off
The 2018 RX/SX 125 seem to be a step in the right direction. Come on Aprilia, I'll gladly beg!
it is a race machine , so a rebuild is always needed. Make it into a street bike it will be heavier .
To an extent yes, but not that much heavier. Something along the lines of the Highland 750 V2 Desert X would be perfect. A touch heavier, double the fuel capacity and increased oil capacity.

Twysted Throttle nailed it
Guessing similar to what I thought about the Nuda - looks crazy, very mellow?
Summed up well!
SuburbanKnight
You can't compare it to the nuda...
The nuda is exactly what it looks like. Brutal because it's so light and powerful :)
@@wolfgangrembeck2171 exxept the nuda has a hideous headlight, would look so much better with a more squarish headlight

Stock exhausts are properly engineered, fit for purpose! As an engineer, I appreciate them immensely.
they are engineered for less emissions
uyfugbug766546 Yes, they're engineered to be as quiet as possible. If you're going to have a v twin, nothing wrong with wanting to hear the rumble.

Husky 701 owners love to remind everyone
Twysted Throttle Haha yeah can't help ourselves. I usually don't care just thought I'd let Tom know in case he didn't know already. Love your vids by the way 👍
Awesome channel, Australia must be a great place to ride

I watched many times video of seb but when scrolling in your channel i see the title rest and piece seb.i watched his last video i cant sleep for a 2 days.Sorry for that very very late moment.
Sorry for that gramm because my keyboard is broken some other letters is not responding
Are you sure you're remembering the 690 gearbox right? mine is clunky with long shifts and false neutrals if you dont smack it into gear firmly. Nearly impossible to clutchless shift safely due to the long throw and notchiness.
Love this bike! But like the Aprilia Shiver better
Love my DD 🤩
Nothing like a 1200 Duro.... Thats the only Hooligan bike Aprilia make
Nice vid! Although where is the Ktm rc 390 review, would really love to se that. Keep it up!
I think it is an amazing looking bike. I'm pretty sure they were going for the ducati hypermotard look. But i have met a person that has had alot of problems with his. But thats just one person. So i would be willing to ride one.
1066Rider wdym?
1066Rider sorry for the misunderstanding. I was referring to aprillia and some of the electronic flaws. And snowcat needs to be in my daily routine again. Have a good day.
that is only on the older models (mostly pre-ABS) - newer 750s like mine dont have those problems anymore. Can only recommend it, im loving it :D
Hey Tom have you ridden the KTM 990 SMR mate ? If so i'd be interested to know how you compare it to this DD900 .
I would love to see a ktm 990 smt review
Yup. I'm sold on a Hypermotard then.
Very tiring to cruise in 3rd gear... or the isnt flexible enough?
Nice video. How does it compare to the new Shiver?
based on this review, it seems like there's no reason to buy the dorsoduro over the shiver. the shiver has one more tooth on the front sprocket, and smoother fueling, which would make it better for commuting. so if this bike isn't good for anything other than commuting, why would anyone want to buy it over the shiver? although, i think it is a bit lighter.
I watched a review comparing the Shiver 900 with the Dorsaduro 900. They look the same, basically.
No one would confuse the MT09 with the XSR900.
Nothing to do with a supermoto? Its a maximotard, 990smr, hypermotard, hp2 mega moto, etc.
So basically it's a Hypermotard, looks wise and sound wise
Hey Tom, would you do a review on the BMW G310R or GS?? Thanks!!
Should try the dorsa 1200 it's much more of a hooligan bike like it should be
very nice, nice, very nice, nice
love that wind noise, thanks for that
New Aprilia, Dainese jacket when will you come to Italy
Well I was just in Monaco so I was very close!
How does Aprilia manage to get such little hp and torque out of such big cc engines?
Blue Rage ask triumph lol
Will you be able to test the Aprilia Shiver 900??
Tom, Is that a new Dainese jacket?
Good Video. This bike is insane!!! :)
But I was wondering if you could help me, because I cannot find the information anywhere.
Cheers from Portugal - Azores islands
any chance to see a video review of the hypermotard sp?
Only the 2017 upwards husqvarna 701 gets the new ktm 693cc engine. KTM 690 smcr is discontinued/still sold with the old engine. and it weights around 147 kgs stock with only 2 litters of fuel. So a fully mod'd 701 , lithium ion battery , carbon wheels , titanium header and exhaust and you are looking at 137 kgs at least. still 20 kgs heavier than a 450 supermoto. But bloody light weight for a street bike with 70 hp and 80 Nm of torque.
Air Doctor 701 is heavier than 690 stock
Did you even read the differences between the two bikes? ciao.
Had the same throttle by wire issues with my MV Agusta 🙄
Great bike
When he saw the god he would whisper all the good you did throughout his life and whisper to him that you were his most kind friend.BTW nce video men.goodluck
I really like it, but it's way too heavy.
Hi, what camera are you using?
I really like the bike
2018 Aprilia Hypermotard
An EBR should definitely not be compared to this bike..... Mine weighs in less than 420lbs and makes over 170whp.... Nowhere near comparable.
dallpall69 The turn in is very similar to my old EBR, that’s the only similarity. Considering that’s what Buell products are known for, it’s great to see Aprilia nailing the corner feel.
Twysted Throttle thats a fair point. Just curious as to why you moved away from the ebr?
How was it 2 up?
Tom get the new Ktm super duke 1290 r or get the ktm 690 adventure bike
Could you do a suzuki hayabusa?
Just ad arrows cans, healtech quickshifter and then it becomes something else
please do the shiver 900
Baron is always worth a watch when he uploads
If you want a hoon bike, buy the Tuono!
I found one new for $8,500 usd good deal?
Green Lime yes
Sure!
tom you're welcome to ride my sxv 550 next time you're on the gold coast !
(pending it starts)
bobert02493 Oh man, I had a go on one, only bike I’ve ever been scared of. I’d love to own one someday
sounds about right! I came back from the test ride shaking in fear, needless to say I bought it. I'd love to hear toms opinion on it :)
Sooo windy!
I like it but I've seen so many uncomplimentary things on motorcycle message boards about Aprilia's reliability and quality control problems.
same like Nuda 900R?
About Gaming very similar
Please please please, Tuono is not pronounced like that.
I don't think its a good idea to classify a bike by its ability to do wheelies or being able to be called a hooligan bike.
Sounds simular to a v strom 1000
Looks like a prettier Ducati hypermotard
Jhaas42 It's basically just a cheap version of the Hypermotard.
Tom
Girlfriend dose entire obtain material exercise growth except division canvas.
Top the wind!! Haha. Nice video though!

Please be honest
