    I have been a retired technician since1992 and my grandson purchased a 1994 z28 with the LT1 engine and he come to me to help him out with this very problem. I have watched several different videos on it and I have to say this was the most informative and very thorough. Thank you for your video.

    Outstanding! I have the LT-1 in my 1994 Buick Roadmaster and have to do the same. If I lived in Arizona I’d pay you to do it. Thanks for the video !

    That slot above your punch at 1:45 is to put a small screwdriver blade and pry seal out without damaging cover. Nice video thanks for the help.

    You can TEST it BEFORE installing the Water pump by installing harmonic balancer, plug wires, Opti harness and Intake ducting and see if it fires, if its jacked up in front the residual coolant should stay put since it was somewhat drained, hoses are hanging and radiator is drained...then you can fire it a few seconds and know it will run before putting the rest back together, it may set some diagnostic codes but they will clear on their own in time or you can reset them if you have a scanner...be careful to not have it in gear and have it chocked before you try to start it!

    Thanx for making these vids. Good angles and paying attention to detail! I drive a 79 Camaro for 12 years now. Its my baby. I bought a 95 Firebird Formula 5.7 LT in 09. Its been sitting. Was sort of intimidating to look at motor but it ran when parked. Owner said it had a blown head gasket but I changed oil, put water in it and drove it. No overheat, no water in oil or vise versa. Recently drug it home and getting started on it after cleaning and cleaning (rat poop and things). Hope I can hit you up for questions? Im used to old school motors. Thanx!! JimmyCC

    Good video. Our LT1 is in a 57 Chevy and have a little more room. Picked up on some good tips. We were thinking old school & trying to pull balancer off thinking we were pushing against crank. Video showed a shoulder in Bal. adaptor which we were pushing on instead of crank. No wonder it wouldn't come off. Would like to know what type Opti-Spark you used & where purchased. Paused on part #, but still not sure who it was made by.

    I am going to do the same job but I have a couple of doubts, after painting the distributor shaft in its position on the engine and marking it on the timing cover, I take it out of the engine, I take it to the distributor and there I turn it by hand. until reaching the same position that I have painted on the timing cover. TRUE?. The second question is that I don't have that type of marker where I live. Can I use the coupling of the water pump to do the same process. Thanks.

    Great video! I just wanted to ask if you removed the hoses for your oil cooler? I am thinking of doing that to my 93 Trans Am. The hoses are getting really weak and I am afraid of one of them bursting while driving. The factory ones have not been available for years and I do not want to cobble together a bunch of heater hoses to make it work. The temperature drop is minimal anyway. Thanks again for the best video on the Opti Spark on TH-cam!

    Is it correct that the pulley wheel goes on with the thicker part toward the front of the car (if you look at the wheel from the side - one side is thicker)? Also I notice that you have a bleeder valve with some little turn handles on it. Where do you get that? Thank you.

    Ok I got my 95 impala 5.7 Lt1 running after charging out the waterpump and optispark .. but the plug wire that goes into the coil is sparking.. do I need to get a new wire and coil or would Dielectric grease take care if this?

  • @mrdeanv4414
    @mrdeanv4414 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok so I pulled the little spark plug looking wire from the optispark that goes to the coil and turned the motor over and I have fire using a test light.. ok so I replaced the plug wire back in to the optispark and I pulled the front drivers side spark plug wire and placed the test light in the plug wire and turned the motor over and the test light wouldn't light up... would you say the optispark has gone bad?

  • @mrdeanv4414

    well yesterday that brand new optispark that I just put on last weekend started shooting fire sparks into the back of my waterpump... I have no idea what happened... guess what I'll be doing all weekend...?

    My optispark on my 95 Lt1 impala has 2 vacuum lines at the bottom of the old optispark and the new optispark has only 1 place for a vacuum line at the top of the optispark?

    My firebird dies after a mile or when it's been warned up for a while. Before, the fuel pump wouldn't kick back on. Now that I swapped it, it kicks on, but I can here the fuel choke up until the engine cools down. Any advice? PLEASE!

    You did not even mention the water pump drive pin has two O-Rings that are used on either end ? Why not please explain ! A decent instructional video though

    • @Corsairforu
      @Corsairforu 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      True and I believe they come with the Water Pump Kit so if you got two little O-Rings that is what they are for oh and myself I highly recommend replacing the THERMOSTAT with a NEW one while you are doing this!

    If you have a 96 and 97 LT1 F-body... There are some differences... For example the size of the distributor cap seal it's significantly larger than the one shown in this video... It's sort of reminds me of a lid of a jelly jar...(extreme caution)! Whether you drill it out or pry it out be aware of the timing cover!.. also on a '96 and 97 there is an extra bracket that piggybacks in front of the water pump on the driver side" MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASS" because you have to disconnect one of the spark plug wires from the distributor to remove the fourth bolt. If you decide to tackle this project remember one thing BE PATIENT.. it is doable

  • @pablorojas5296
    @pablorojas5296 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What size drill bit did you use?

  • @mrdeanv4414
    @mrdeanv4414 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've replaced the Optispark, Map Sensor, Idle Air Control Valve, Throttle Positioning Sensor and Mass Airflow Sensor on my 95 impala LT1 and its still throwing a code... just a few minutes ago it was running and I disconnected the Mass Airflow Sensor, the Throttle Positioning Sensor, the Idle Air Control Valve... I even loosened the hoses clamp and removed the hockey puck and the motor never even hiccuped.... I'm so freaked out... I thought the car would die or at least sputter or something... but if I try to drive it the car will die and acts like it wont start...

    Omfg, stupid car engine design .
    Omfg..if I hadn't found my car has an lt4 head n cam swap I would junk it and skip this amount of work..100k miles it just rolled and like clock work the opti failed..
