- Tips for Spring fishing CT Housatonic River with soft-plastic baits, Alabama Rigs, and fly fishing. Many Striped bass "schoolies" spin & fly casting. Using fly set up similiar to what is used for small to medium size steelhead and salmon.
Connecticut Rivers (Housatonic) really have good runs of migrating school size bass in the Spring, and you can use soft plastic lures and rigs that resemble large mouth bass rigs. Top water plugs like spooks work well usually during low light levels too. Once the bunker or menhaden show up, try using live baits...tight lines.

Nice River addres ramp Boat
thanks
Great awesome early techniques gonna try this in March in NJ in the back bay! Thanks again
Brendan Woerner let us know how it works for ya!
Adventure Streaming Guys will do thanks again! Great content!
What rod (power/action/size) and reel (gear ratio) set ups do you use for jigging and umbrella rigs?
take a look at the gear we use in the description, and we discuss this in the video
@@AdventureStreamingGuys I watched the video, and looked at the gear used in the video description but it does not specify the exact rod power (Med-Hvy, Hvy, or extra Hvy)... action (moderate or fast), size (in feet)... or reel gear ratio (5:1, 6:1, 7:1...etc) for the jigging and umbrella rigs which looks like two different rods on the video (black foam split grip, and cork grip rods). I’m just curious because I’m looking to add a set up for these techniques to my collection!
@@brucehudson2493 Ok gotcha....for the striper from schoolies to 30# fish we like medium/fast taper. still gives you striking power but some give so you don't pull the hook. have found that fast action on most tips is a bit too stiff. i like 7:1 with high quality bearings...so better to spend money on reel and save some on rod, not vice versa. In terms of rod weight...you won't believe this...but it all depends on the feel and balance with your reel. we almost disregard the rod weight. if you can not bring the rod to the shop to feel the balance and tip action, then try and match the lure weights or bait weights in the middle of the weight band the rod is designed for, but again...we have found this not to be as important if you can physically match the rod and reel before purchase. Catchem-up!
@@AdventureStreamingGuys Thanks so much for the help, I appreciate it! Is that a Shimano Stradic reel, and a G. Loomis rod?
@@brucehudson2493 yes and yes. Where do you fish mostly?
Does anyone know of a TH-camr I can follow that's from around the housatonic River on how to fish from land and the boat
