  • The R&J Drivers Swivel Seat Mechanism is an absolute thing of beauty. Honestly, its so smooth and well finished, I'm not even worried about getting my fingers trapped in it at some point in the future. In this video, you'll see me install this mechanism so you can come best prepared when installing your own.
This series has now moved to the new Matt's Van Channel!

Due to the popularity of this Van Conversion series, I am relocating it to a dedicated Van Conversion Channel! youtube.com/@mattsvan
The Matt Estlea 2 Channel was originally for shitposting and used as a proving ground for ideas we have, without the risk of damaging the main channels (Matt Estlea) ranking in TH-cams search algorythms. Ideally we'd like to continue using it for this purpose, but are concious of clogging up the feeds of people who only signed up for van related content. Hence the dedicated channel.
It also means I can use the dedicated channel for travel vlogs and other van related content once the conversion is complete which sounds fun. Go subscribe!

I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.

Matt, everytime you're not sure about brakes just wedge at least one tire with a piece of wood. The general issue with swivelling driver seats is that in a van it changes its function and somebody sitting on it may mess around with the hand brake lever.

Hi pal, nice videos. I don't know about others but I'd actually particularly appreciate their day-to-day use, to decide whether or not to get them! Like, one of the reasons I thought of doing it was it might make it easier to get from the cab to the van. Does it??

The tool you should search for to “correctly” remove the connector pins is “terminal removal tool” probably best to get a kit (not all pins are the same size, thus a need for individual extractors)
I used them a lot working on the connectors between f-16 jets and the armament equipment that gets mounted to them while I was in the USAF.

Hi Matt I made a comment on your double seat swivel about locking the seat in reversed position for security , I'm sorry it should have been this video.

    Hey Matt,
I just saw your QandA from 2019 and you said that you would like to do a collaboration with Alec Steele but that it would be difficult because he is in America.
However, I watch you both and Alec has been in England for a while now with a second workshop. So if you see this comment, I would think it would be soo cool if you two made a video together.

As a suggestion, if leaving the van for a long time not moving, chock the wheels, leave it in gear and the handbrake off, it's fairly common on vehicles for handbrakes to rust on which can require a big hammer and a jack to solve.

You can buy cable de pinning tools cheap on eBay. Also a bit of thread lock probably wouldn't go a miss on the seats and handbrake bolts.

E-torx = external torx. It's just reversed from standard torx with the male end on the fastener and the female end on the socket.

I’m sure you’ll get to this point, but right at the start when you had trouble with that plastic seat-bottom trim I decided that I’d have trimmed that trim right off. Who wants to have to raise and lower the seat every time you want to swivel it? (Certainly not lazy me…)

Those yellow connectors are seat occupancy sensors for the airbags. Those particular ones seems to be Mercedes’ own thing, but likely manufactured by somebody like ACDelco as OEM for Mercs. As a word of caution, disconnect the battery before messing with any yellow connectors. SRS electronics doesn’t appreciate things being unplugged while powered up and can throw nasty codes that would spell a visit to a dealer to clear.

A bit strong on the false jeopardy there Matt. The little flap on the connector is a TPA - Terminal Position Assurance, found on most automotive connectors. A set of general connector terminal removal tools will usually have something useful for removing each terminal type.

Don't you need to put tension on the handbreak cable again, now that the handbreak has been lowered and effectively shortened the length to the break in the back?
