You can use pistols as rifleman, but as a rifleman you have many gun options that will all work well, AR/130Shotgun/DonarEM/Pistols they’re all good options as rifle, pistols still work pretty well but the main purpose of the pistols is to give power to the other certs like spore hunter and Ark. You can see in the video that pulse flash is building up and as the spore shot gets fired, for every nearby zombie that gets hit it counts as a hit in the pulse flash meter, so for a spore hunter using the pistols if your first shot is a spore shot and you had say 9-10 nearby zombies that got hit then the pulse flash meter gets filled instantly and then because pulse flash fires so many bullets in a second that in turn triggers more spore shots, this can be repeated for pretty much endless triggers of pulse flash like in the link at the bottom, this isn’t something that rifleman can do so if you’re looking specifically for this effect than yeah you do have to be spore, even Ark which was designed for pistols can’t beat spore with pistols, have a look at this for example imgur.com/a/BDf4Xfs
