- I take a look at the fighting style of Shakur Stevenson, as I try to analyse why so many people are accusing the world class fighter of being boring to watch.
The whole problem is that he just talks to much and acts like he is some killer in the ring while he is a safety first fighter if he would just fight and be more carefull with his words he would not get that much hate
He is not a bad fighter at all but his words dont at up with his actions in the ring
Every fighter talks big trash to promote themselves and their fights, nothing wrong with that.
Yeah I get that point. Never good to over promise and under deliver. Think having those bigger names on his resume will make all the difference to how he can position himself.

No risk = no rewards. Sure you get a win, but no one will remember him or his performances in 10-20-30 years. He’s not special nor impactful on boxing. He offers nothing to the entertainment of fight, he is abusinessman, so don’t get butthurt when fans don’t respect him for making business choices instead of chancing greatness. You’re coping brother.
Hahah mate I’m totally fine with it if someone doesn’t find him entertaining. I just think he’s very talented and I’m excited to see him in against other elite fighters.
@@AGuyCalledHenry appreciate your response my guy! TBH I’ve been let down by him underperforming against those he has supposed to completely wash, so I’m a bit biased against him now. I understand the talent, but when he isn’t using talent to show he is levels above, rather than to skid by, how can anyone be truly GREAT with those performances? Imagine if Ali, Liston, sugar ray performed like him. Good and talented doesn’t equate to great. Bro is McDonalds, enough wins make people think you’re good, but it’s just a business strategy, there is no soul or fire inside. Doesn’t even look like he loves boxing.

Shakur's defense is decent. He's a good fighter but honestly, OVER HYPED.

@@thuglife2ea424 He doesn't get hit because all he does is back pedal.. he doesn't counter, he's not slick, he doesn't slip punches. All he does is back pedal so he's a decent defensive figure for that reason.

I admit I have been on the bandwagon with teasing Shakur as a boring fighter.
I hope he does not take all the criticism personally, but rather, motivate himself to further improve his skills and become a better all around fighter.
That was a masterful and entertaining performance. Most if not all boxing fans of today think in a hive mentality. They watch fights in the scope of public opinion.
Or maybe Shakur is just boring and that's what people actually see with their eyes.

Shakurs problem is hes not willing to go get his opponents, the boring label is placed on him cuz he keeps talking like he's this killer but when he gets in the ring if the guy isn't giving him the opening for the ko he wont take it, yeah its hit n not get hit but atst with a guy like Artem he should've gotten him outta there n he could've while being defensive, Frank Martin does it n he's considered a defensive fighter, its almost like Shakur doesn't take the risk cuz he's scared to get hit cuz Artem don't got power like that so there wasnt any danger for him to wrry bout

IMO he is boring and I'm a boxing purist. I don't understand why he is so defensive against the opposition he has been facing. Even Floyd was far more aggressive against the caliber of opponents Shakur has fought. For a guy who many consider to be a supreme boxer, why doesn't he do more? Is he afraid of looking bad? Does he think he will get hurt? Another thing is he fights overly defensive when he faces someone with power. If this level of opposition is making him overly defensive, what will Tank do? In a fight of that magnitude, Shakur won't get the win if he isnt activ3 enough. The judges will give the fight to Tank because: 1. Tank is the A side 2. Judges tend to favor the fighter who is making the fight. If Shakur is just going to throw 200-300 punches against Tank he isn't going to win.
@@TheRexrapper Great thoughts. It does seem like he overestimates what B level opposition will be able to do to him and it would be a lot more entertaining if he went through the gears. Do you think it’s a symptom of this thing we have in boxing about protecting the 0?
@@AGuyCalledHenry Maybe a little bit. Shakur right now seems like he wants to fight all of the top guys. I think protecting the 0 is more so about matchmaking. Taking fights at the right time and whatnot. Shakur needs the right opponents to look spectacular against. A guy who is there to be hit and will walk into Shakur's punches. If he doesn't have that then the fight will be boring because Shakur will not take the risk of doing more. I personally believe he knows he can't take power. People bring up Floyd but I never looked at Floyd and thought he was afraid of power. When Mosley cracked him clean, Floyd recovered and kept pressing the attack. When Judah hurt Floyd he kept coming. I saw Floyd walk to a power puncher in Ortiz and back him up. I haven't seen any of this from Shakur.
Shakur is just painful to watch as he got the talent but not the style to fully unleash it. That Philly shell stance and long arm block can only protect against smaller guys who can't take a hit but if someone just walk through his initial guard he quickly jumps back 😅
You do know that Tank is one of the most inactive fighters in the sport?? I think only Zhang (a heavy weight) throws less punches per round than Tank.
While I think this criticism certainly has some merit. Shakur actually threw more punches per round against Artem than tank did against Martin.
Tanks talented so maybe he'll bring more volume against shakur but if they're both their typical selves, tank is going to go a lot of rounds getting clearly out landed by Shakur. Judges in boxing are pretty corrupt though. So 🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️.

The modern American style is more run & hit than hit & run.
I don't think his current style can beat Tank. He doesn't really punch through opponents. He usually just hits opponents for points and not to cause damage. If he wants to beat Tank hes gonna have to punch with bad attention and something sit down on his punches to gain Tanks respect. Shakur hurting tank has to be a form of defense to keep him from coming.
Tank is incredible fast and athletic and punched like a literally tank lol....But he is a smaller guy with shorter arms going put against a much bigger physical man who is a master at distance and anticipation.

When Floyd was “pretty boy” he actually wasn’t boring he was aggressive and stopping people it’s been he transitioned into “money” when he became super defensive counter puncher and boring but in shakurs young days which is now he ain’t even doing that so idk for him
He's a boring fighter and his style basically an outside fighter/pure boxer. Let's stop mixing up the two and giving him a pass for not being bolder and not keeping his word with increasing entertaining fights.
The people that say Shakur is a runner literally just don’t know about boxing. His base style is as an inside fighter, those frames, pins, guard manipulation, etc. That’s really high level skill that only great fighters can pull off without getting hit.
All fine and dandy, and yes, he has amazing skills that 99% of the rest of the world doesn't. He's extremely gifted. Still doesn't change the fact that he's just not fun to watch. Hikaru Nakamura is considered the best chess player in the world and he's genius. Yea nobody gives a shit. People like what they like. This is boxing. We are animals at the end of the day and crave to be entertained. We need violence. Shakur doesn't offer that.
@@gbturk16 But he is fun to watch, you’re just running with whatever the media is telling you to believe. Most of Shakur’s fight have a lot of action in them. The only fight he really spent on his back foot and didn’t engage was De Los Santos, but nobody ever called him boring before that.
@juliusc.8 false....shakur has been the same fighter since day one. His style has always been critiqued as not fan friendly. Doesn't take much risk. He doesn't sit on a lot of his punches and minimal power. I have watched him for years. We all recognize he's a special fighter. We also recognize it's just not aestically pleasing to watch as others. Which is why he will never be a pay per view star. He's a top guy, so he's going to be crtitqued more heavily. And that's fine, people can have their opinion and they have spoken. This narrative hasn't come out of nowhere. Boxing enthusiasts even understand why people say what they say. I'm not saying he's wrong. He's a generational talent, undefeated, doesn't take much damage, rich, and damn near a master at his craft. The dude is living the dream. But facts are facts, dude is just a boring fighter to the overwhelming majority. And that's ok!

Hi Bernie. I was in and around UK gyms for a few years and I have followed the sport for quite some time. If the opinions are already out there, it's probably because other people are seeing the same thing. You're right in that I don't have much credibility - no one knows who I am, but hopefully over time people will see I'm consistent and thoughtful with my opinions.
