The Anglo-French rivalry can be traced back to the ongoing war in Europe. Duplex, the French governor supported the idea of political expansion in India.The Anglo French rivalry led to three Carnatic wars in India. There was an ongoing war in Europe (Austrian war of succession) . The British navy under Barnet captured French ships as a result of which Dupleix in India attacked British centre in Madras and seized it. The war of ended by treaty of Aix-la-Chappelle and madras was handed back to British but dupleix Promised handing Madras to sultan anwaruddin which he later declined which led to a war Battle of Thome in which anwaruddin was defeated. The political instability in Hyderabad and Deccan region lead to war amongst the Indian ruler. Muzzafarjung was supported by French and anwaruddin was supported by British. The battle of vellore lead to death of Anwaruddind and muzzarfarjang became subhedar of Deccan. As a result of seven yr ongoing war in Europe French army under Count de Lally captured British fort st davis. The British agitation led to a war of Wandiwash and the freanch were completely defeated and their rule was put to end in India. However, the treaty of peace of Paris restored French their factories in India.

Blue water policy was introduced to increase the dominance of Portuguese in the seas, it was not meant to acquire the land in India and to maintain it. it was the policy of Almeida. Albuquerque who came after Almeida not only focused on water but acquired land too. for example he acquired GOA from Bijapur sultan Adil shah in 1510. In this way Albuquerue can called as real founder of portuguese in india
